Enduring notability?[edit]

Hi, CT55555, and hope you're doing well. May I kindly ask the reason that this page is on Hartin and not the shooting of Henry Jemmott? If she has significant coverage in independent, reliable sources outside of Jemmott's shooting, I'd be more than happy to help make that clear in the article. Otherwise, we may have to rescope the article to focus on the shooting to comply with WP:BLP1E. Please feel free to let me know if I missed something. Thank you, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 05:53, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good question. On one hand, indeed there is a good argument that this should have been an event article. On the other WP:BLP1E doesn't guide us that way, as criteria #2 doesn't apply at all, and we'd need all three criteria to apply, for BLP1E to be something to be concerned about. Criteria #3 of BLP1E doesn't apply either. Further to that, and this part is more debatable, she's notable for the shooting, the trial, being detained at the border, so that's three event. Indeed connected events, but still distinct events, some years apart. CT55555(talk) 13:06, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your careful eye. While I agree that not all three BLP1E criteria apply, I'm still not persuaded that Hartin qualifies for a standalone article yet.
How strongly do you feel about moving and rescoping to the shooting? If you are OK with the move, I can just do it. If not, I am open to a broader discussion like WP:RM.
To give an idea of my thought process: this may still fall under the broader WP:BIO1E. If the shooting is a minor event in the realm of Belize-related news, then an individual plays a major role in a minor event part may apply. To me, the article, as written, is mainly about how Hartin was involved in Jemmott's death and the consequences. If media gave her significant coverage beyond that, I would expect to have a harder time summarizing the article scope down to one event.
If I have overlooked something, please feel free to let me know. And because this got long, please feel free to let me know if you'd like me to carry out the move or to open a discussion instead. Thanks again, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 15:11, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On one hand, all three of the criteria need to apply. But that still doesn't preclude making the article about the shooting. If you want to convert it in to an event article, I don't object and I'll try to help.
This incident has been making news in Belize, Canada and the UK, so I don't think characterising someone killing a police officer with their own gun as a "minor event".
I'll just say, she's a socialite. i.e. someone who is famous. So she is likely to continue to be notable, so I think her notability will escalate, but still, I don't object to your suggestion. If she keeps making more news, we can deal with that later. CT55555(talk) 15:19, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help with the post-move cleanup—got called away for meatspace obligations after the page move—and thank you for providing some context for on the topic (This incident has been making news...). I agree that if Hartin meets criteria for a standalone article in the future, we can always replace the Jasmine Hartin redirect with article text.
