Accuracy[edit]

(1) The first paragraph claims that Conte served in Congress for "16" terms. In the second paragraph his service was for "seventeen consecutive" terms. Which is correct?

(2) The article describes Conte as "the only member of Congress who lacked an opponent in the 1964 election"—a highly unlikely assertion. Check it out. Additionally, "Congress" means both the House and the Senate, and at least in the Senate John Stennis was unopposed that year in both the Democratic primary and the general election. Maybe the quoted statement intended to mean that in 1964 Conte was the only unopposed individual among the congressional candidates in Massachusetts, but that is not what the statement actually says.
