Sonic Team[edit]

"It includes only those titles developed by Sonic Team; Sonic Spinball and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine are not featured."

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was developed by SEGA Technical Institute.

So were Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. -- E Liquere 02:19, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Game.com version[edit]

I actually owned this. The game itself was much different from what the box had displayed and from advertisements. The levels were for the most part barren and devoid of anything remotely resembling fun. They weren't in any way similar to the Genesis originals.

A bomb of a game on a bomb of a system, I wonder whatever happened to my own.

This is also the only Sonic game that only is available in a black & white version. It looks crappy from the packaging, but I haven't opened my box & I don't have any Tiger Game.com. (Stefan2 11:04, 8 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Sonic jam[edit]

Just wondering why the page is so small.

Overlap[edit]

The information box for the game overlaps the games box. This needs fixing. --87.254.65.134 06:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have this game, love the bonus advert content. Review coming shortly.

Lead

  • Footnote the Japanese title
  • I tried to find something like this but couldn't. Linked JAGUAR  17:50, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reduce size of non-free image so width x height is less than 100,000 pixels per WP:IMAGERES
  • Shrunk. I hope I got this right as I'm hopeless with images JAGUAR  17:50, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay

  • I think there are more differences between modes. I thought easy mode changed some level layouts, omitted some levels, and placed more rings around. Not sure if source can be found.
    • EC: Yes, I just wanted to confirm from briefly watching an LP that in Sonic 2, at least, Sonic Jam's easy mode removes spikes/enemies and adds additional platforms. Jaguar is citing the European instruction manual, but the page range he gives is too broad for me to tell where to look to verify this material. Moreover, Jaguar should specify that he is using the European manual as opposed to the U.S. or Japanese manuals.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 18:16, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'm using the European manual (have it in my hands right now). The trouble is that it's in six different languages and anything in English has one page each, so that explains why there's 42 pages. I've clarified. JAGUAR  18:45, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I couldn't find a source on this; even the manual itself was vague but it did mention that it changed the rings' layout, so I mentioned that. JAGUAR  17:50, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sonic's spin dash was first introduced in Sonic 2, not 3. Only Sonic 1 is enhanced with its inclusion. This is mentioned in the allgame source.
  • My mistake, Sega Saturn Magazine's mistake, fixed. JAGUAR  17:50, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • For the record, Sega Saturn Magazine clearly says "Players are now able to perform a spin-dash attack in the first Sonic game, a move which wasn't added to Sonic's repertoire until the sequel."TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 04:59, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Regarding the ability to play Knuckles "in any Sonic game", double check the sources and they may be dubious. I can check my copy, but pretty sure lock-on technology allows you to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2, but locking onto Sonic 1 unlocks the Blue Sphere game. Sonic 1 was never programmed to work with Knuckles. That's how it worked with the physical carts.
  • I've just checked the game itself and you're right, it's just a sphere stage when it's linked with Sonic & Knuckles. The Sega Saturn Magazine source didn't get it right. I just double checked it and they were wrong about the "spin dash" move too, as they said it was introduced in Sonic 3. Anyway, I've corrected this. JAGUAR  20:40, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Development

Reception

  • nowhere was smooth - nowhere AS smooth
  • "looks nowhere was smooth", "just plain boring", "well worth watching", "gorgeous to look at", "isn't quite as fun", "a lot of exploring to do" - These quotes are not significant and don't add any nuance. Their impressions can be reworded and worked into prose.
    • Additional reviews can be found here. GameRankings should be removed because it is aggregating fewer than five reviews, and is therefore statistically insignificant.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 18:16, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • I've paraphrased everything except "gorgeous to look at" as I couldn't think how to alter that direct quote. I'll start implementing more reviews TheTimesAreAChanging gave shortly. Are you sure GameRankings should be removed? I couldn't find anything at WP:VG/GL (not that I comply with it much anyway) but I still think having an aggregate score adds value to the reception section. JAGUAR  20:55, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
        • Added Hyper's review. JAGUAR  21:38, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
          • I guess I'll go ahead and add the CVG review, which also clarifies the differences between the alternate difficulty levels.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 07:19, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Other

  • Consider archiving websites
    • I've archived all the online sources. As usual, the scans can't be archived. JAGUAR  21:38, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Everything else looks good, I'll take another look after issue are addressed TarkusAB 14:00, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@TarkusAB: thanks for the review! I think I've clarified everything, but if there's anything else then let me know. JAGUAR  21:38, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jaguar: Didn't realize video game compilation linked to another kind of unrelated page...feel free to unlink if you want. But everything looks good and TheTimesAreAChanging brought some nice improvements. Page is well researched and comprehensive. Pass! TarkusAB 23:28, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

British spelling[edit]

Is there a reason the article uses British English? I'm British myself so don't give a shit, but all the other Sega/Sonic articles are in American English. Popcornduff (talk) 11:55, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've always viewed the Sonic articles in general to be a "free for all" neutral ground in regards to spelling. Traveller's Tales developed this one, so if anything that might indicate a small preference. In comparison I wrote Sonic Spinball in American English because it was mostly developed in the states. JAGUAR 12:18, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sonic Team developed Sonic Jam, not Traveller's Tales. You're thinking of Sonic R. Popcornduff (talk) 12:24, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, not sure why I was thinking of them! JAGUAR 12:25, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Game.com version[edit]

Can anyone find any reliable sources that cover the Game.com version of Sonic Jam? It is legendarily bad and it would be good to add a sentence or two about its contents and reception... but I can't find much out there beyond fan coverage. Popcornfud (talk) 12:50, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Popcornfud, here's one I found: [1]. There's also [2], which mentions it but doesn't go into much detail. JOEBRO64 23:15, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
