[edit] Redirect
I believe this page should redirect to Soviet Union, as it's clearly the primary topic. None of the other entries at Soviet (disambiguation) are quite as notable as a former world power. –Schmloof (talk · contribs) 09:33, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- OK, after checking the history, I believe I have consensus in stating that Soviet Union is the WP:Primary topic, and am therefore reverting again. I had hoped to follow the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, but now I will attempt to follow the WP:Three revert rule. –Schmloof (talk · contribs) 09:50, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Soviet is the English transliteration of the Russian term Совет. This is the primary topic. This term was then adopted by the Soviet Union following the development of Soviets i.e Soviet (council) first during the 1905 revolution and then again during the 1917 revolution. As such the term was then widely used across the world to describe Workers self-organisation of society, e.g in 1918 in Limerick (see Limerick Soviet). Thus it is incorrect to say that Soviet Union is the primary topic, rather this is a distinct topic created by the subsequent re-unification of state power by the Bolsheviks, and to present this as the primary topic is clearly POV. - Where is the history you talk about. It is not on this page!Harrypotter (talk) 09:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm in agreement with Schmloof on this - clear case of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Whatever the origin of the word, in the EN wiki Soviet is used overwhelmingly as a reference to the Soviet Union. --JaGatalk 11:14, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- There are two words, Soviet as a noun and Soviet as an adjective. While your argument maybe correct for the adjective, it is not correct for the noun. That is why the froward to the disambiguation page is necessary.Harrypotter (talk) 08:56, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- But it doesn't matter if it's a noun or adjective or pronoun or interjection or whatever. It's simply a matter of the primary topic; that is, what do people expect to find when they follow that link. It should be overwhelmingly clear that to most of the world, Soviet refers to the Soviet Union. –Schmloof (talk · contribs) 17:59, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
