2LA?[edit]

Has anyone seen TLA for Two Letter Abbreviation/Acronym? Does anyone have a better page/category name for it? samwaltz 05:55, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only Wikipedia:List of two-letter combinations, afaik. -- Quiddity (talk) 20:09, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Textile Labour Association[edit]

I'm fairly sure this qualifies for addition, but Dicklyon keeps reverting, so I'll raise the issue here for discussion. A Google search seems to indicate that TLA is a common-usage acronym. 2 articles link to Textile Labour Association, one of which uses the acronym TLA within the article text. Those seem to satisfy the rationales provided for the reversions ([1], [2], [3]). Is there any other guideline criterion that is relevant, or unsatisfied? Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 07:05, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, entries in a disambig page should be supported by some content. If there's not yet a page on this organization, and no place to indicate that the acronym might be used for it, then it's really not useful or sensible to have it on the disambig page. The MOS page you pointed me at in the edit summary says If the only thing that uses the red link is the disambiguation page, unlink the "entry word" but still keep a blue link in the description. But's there's nothing to link, so it's no disambig item. I have nothing against this TLA, but I do watch a few disambig pages and try to keep them from accumulating a bunch of junk; it's a constant battle. My interpretation is that as there is an article (2 actually) which uses the redlink, and one of them also uses the abbreviation TLA, this entry is justified both by the MOS page and by common sense. I had a problem as to which blue link to use - SEWA was more descriptive of the Association, but Ela Bhatt used the TLA abbreviation, so I chose that one to justify the inclusion in the dab page. There are probably more important battles to be fought than keeping marginal cases out of dab pages - such as the work at Wikipedia:Suggestions for name disambiguation, where an alarming number of "name1 name2 (something)" or "name1 initial(s)/middlename name2" are not linked from the article or dab page at "name1 name2". That's serious, as it allows readers not to find articles, and editors not to find existing articles they're about to duplicate. PamD (talk) 22:48, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see now that you're right. I had done a search and didn't find them; but I should have used the what links here button. Dicklyon (talk) 02:41, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has been repeatedly added by an IP editor, but the abbreviation "TLA" is not mentioned in the target article.

This exactly matches the situation illustrated in MOS:DABINITIALS for "The British Soap Awards".

If the abbreviation is commonly used for the band, add that fact to the band's article, with a source to support that statement. Then come back and add it to this disambiguation page. Until the abbreviation is mentioned in the article, it has no place on this disambiguation page. PamD 09:04, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
