Disgusting Level of Bias[edit]

To be frank, this article is rubbish. Just like most of the other articles in this series, Palestinian civilians have systematically been omitted, whereas Israeli ones are mentioned in detail. The killing of 117 Palestinians in 7 days alone (Feb. 28 - Mar. 3), far more than the number of Israelis killed for the whole year, is buried in a couple of lines. The sourcing is bad as well. I only edit this article on an occasional basis, adding usually whatever blurb pops up in the news. Whatever is reported is copied unto here. It is true that many Palestinians were killed this year. It is also true that most of them were militants and the vast majority (if not all) of civilian casualties were killed during the course of Israeli strikes on militants--and this included in the article. --Shamir1 (talk) 07:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to agree with Shamir. Each death listed has about the same level of detail (e.g., 1 Israeli killed vs. 6 Palestinians killed). I do not see names, etc. provided in either case. The news reports appear to cover 100% of Israeli deaths and perhaps 80%-to-90% of the Palestians. There is less text per Palestinian death simply because they have a much higher relative death toll. The sources such as the Associated Press, New York Times, Los Angeles Times... are mainstream english language sources. In fact I consider NYT and LA Times to be left-of-center. On the face of it they are just fine.

Also, the Palestian attacks tend to be focused on civilians, which makes them more notable/news worthy. A good indication of this fact is that something like 25% of the Palestian deaths are female and around 50% of the Israel deaths are female (females are rarely combatants).

It would be useful to make sure that 100% of the Palestian deaths are covered. A good source for the deaths on both sides is the Btselem web site (see below). However, it would be difficult to link them to events and/or other news reports. On might do an update every month or three months. Ensuring a complete count of Palestian deaths would be a reasonable task for Buttockhat.

If you are going to give the motives for the Israeli airstrikes, then you should give the motives for the Palestinian attacks as well (retribution for Israeli retribution, alleged land theft, impoverishment, fudementalist Islamic philosophy, dehumanization of Israelis, so on and so forth).

Also, the Palestian attacks tend to be focused on civilians, which makes them more notable/news worthy. A good indication of this fact is that something like 25% of the Palestian deaths are female and around 50% of the Israel deaths are female (females are rarely combatants).

All the same, Israel's strikes are so much more powerful that through collateral damage they kill more civlians. Whatever their intended targets are, I think that on that basis Israel's strikes, at least collectively, deserve equal space.
