[edit] What is this page?

What is this page? It could use a great deal more explanation, I think. john 05:41 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Okay, again, this article should have something explaining what the hell it is talking about. You can't just have an article with a long list, and not explain what it is a list of. And "twenty-four historical books" doesn't really count as an explanation. john 23:22 8 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I don't know what it is either, but it is linked from History of China and List of China-related topics, so it apparently has something to do with the history of China (or "traditional history", since it's redirected from there). Someone more knowledgeable about Chinese history will have to elaborate, I guess... -- Wapcaplet 23:35 8 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Found something in Google's cache about this:
Twenty-Four Histories
I'll see if I can't include it by way of introducing the article. -- Wapcaplet 23:40 8 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Um, don't really know how to edit, but thought I would explain in case anybody appears: It's a list of the 24 dynastic histories that were used traditionally as the basis for all Chinese historical studies. They are generally written and compiled by a scholar-official in the following dynasty. The compiler of the Song, Liao and Jin Dynasty histories should probably be listed also by his Chinese name Tuotuo (脱脱)--(there's currently only a Chinese page for him)-- and Ou Yangxiu should be Ouyang Xiu and link there. The bottom of the page seems mislabelled; those aren't related books, those are cases in which a single compiler was unable to complete the history (usually before his death) and the task was passed on to others, sometimes his children.
