  • ... that Venezuelan sociologist Esther Pineda G (pictured) popularized the term "violencia estética" (aesthetic violence) to describe the damaging pressure on women to respond to prevailing ideas of beauty? • Comment: After building several preps with no representation outside of North America and Europe, I am making a push to get articles from under-represented areas into DYK. This is nomination 6 in that effort.

Created/expanded by Astrophobe (talk). Nominated by The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) at 02:15, 1 June 2020 (UTC).

  • Feel free to come up with a shorter hook. I was not able to think of one. This is an AGF nomination, as I do not speak Spanish and cannot verify the sources. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 02:15, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
    • I've created a crop [[:]] for use in the DYK, leaving the original image in the article. Per my reading of the rules, that should be okay. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 00:02, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
  • Article is long enough and was new enough at the time of nomination. Earwig only turns up something copied from this page, and sources seem to be RS. No copyright concerns on the image. My only concern the hook, as it is quite long (as you noted), and the source does not seem to indicate that she "popularized" the term, on my understanding. How about this? Open to other suggestions, too. ~huesatlum 16:56, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
@HueSatLum: How about:
ALT2: ... that Venezuelan sociologist Esther Pineda G (pictured), who studies machismo and misogyny, wrote that discrimination against women is a central feature of Western philosophy?
It's a little longer but establishes her expertise in making that statement. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 19:25, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
Good with me. I haven't done DYK in a while, but I believe this needs a new reviewer for the new hook. ~huesatlum 23:04, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
  • Approving ALT1 and ALT2, and otherwise relying on HueSatLum's review. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:58, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
    • I returned this to the approved list because the image was a copyright violation. There should be no issue with promoting with no image. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 13:20, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
      • Shit, thanks for the catch, Coffeeandcrumbs. I took the original uploader at face value and didn't do any research before making the crop. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 17:59, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
