Marudhanayagam is a long-delayed high budget Tamil film directed and produced by Kamal Haasan. The film, which started in October 1997 with an exclusive launch by Queen Elizabeth II, originally pulled together several prominent names across Indian cinema as its principal cast and crew. However since the launch, the film despite rumours of resurfacing, is yet to resume its shoot.

[edit]When the film was launched officially in October 1997, the budget considered for the the project was an Indian record sum of 25 crore rupees, with expectations that the budget would exceed the predicted value.
The main executive producer for the film was Kamal Haasan's own production company Rajkamal International.
The cast for the film was picked by Haasan himself, who opted to bring together all the prominent Indian film actors. Established stars such as Rajinikanth, Dr.Vishnuvardhan, Amitabh Bachchan, Karthik, Arjun, Sathyaraj were expected to join the shoots as the film developed. The role for the main female lead was handed to Madhuri Dixit, who was expected to make her debut in Tamil cinema, after the delay of her other film, Engineer.

Initially P. C. Sriram was chosen to be the cinematographer for the project, but opted out due to his involvement in an English film. Critically accliamed cinematographer, Santosh Sivan, who was appreicated for his work in Roja and Iruvar was selcted to replace the outgoing Sriram. Steadicam, with the project, was being introduced to Indian cinema.
The music of the film was set to be composed by worldwide-acclaimed tabla musician Zakir Hussain, who was to debut in music composition.
Costumes were handled by Haasan's wife at the time, actress Sarika. The make-up duties for the film were shared between Michael Westmore and his apprentice Barry Cooper.Now in 2011,Kamal hassan again start his project after thebig success of Dasavatharam with bugget 250 crores.
The art director for the project was Sabu Cyril.
