Akb20, regarding your edit here [1]... First, the Syrian war infobox is under strict rules not to be unnecessarily enlarged since its already bloated and any edits making it bigger are required to be first discussed at the talk page. Second, the form of the presented total number of dead was previously agreed to and has been such for many many years. Any changes would need a previous discussion again where editors would agree on a new form (or leaving it as it is). Third, Syrian war-related articles are under strict rules regarding edit warring (they should be avoided and the talk page should be used). At the moment, as per the talk page, I made an attempt at compromise. If you are still having a problem with the form, please use the talk page as suggested by Wikipedia policy. Thank you and happy editing! EkoGraf (talk) 21:25, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages[edit]

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without references are now being reverted on-sight.

Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 20:26, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! No personal attacks[edit]

Kautilya sent you a welcome message (just above) with all the usual exhortations that new users tend to get about Wikipedia's principles — respecting copyright, maintaining a neutral point of view, no edit warring, etc. Nothing personal — it's one of our standard welcome templates. But you responded with a breathtakingly rude attack on his page. Please maintain a civil tone on Wikipedia. Differing political opinions is not a good reason to insult people. Please read Wikipedia:No personal attacks. And feel free to "take this further", whatever that means. Bishonen | tålk 21:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Wow. No freedom of speech on Wikipedia? I can't even express my thoughts? What is this, a dictatorship? I'll do whatever I want.

Will you really? You'll soon be blocked if attacking others is what you want. There are policies here; the No personal attacks page that I just linked you to is one of them. As for freedom of speech, please compare this XKCD comic. Post one more attack and I'll block you myself. Bishonen | tålk 21:12, 2 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Haha, that comic is really funny. Ok, then. What about my message on the talk page of Narendra Modi? Is anyone going to do anything about that?

--Akb20 (talk) 21:16, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Akb20.[reply]

I couldn't say. Is it possible that people don't like to converse with you? That's up to them; everybody here is a volunteer. Anyway, I'm not going to do anything about it. I'm speaking to you as an admin, not as an editor of the Modi article. Bishonen | tålk 21:20, 2 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Remember, no personal attacks! ("Is it possible that people don't like to converse with you?"). I was trying to express my thoughts about an article and now I'm getting threats?

--Akb20 (talk) 21:23, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Akb20[reply]

I see, "Your arrogance/ego is ENORMOUS" was an attempt by you to express your thoughts about an article? You may want to try harder. Yes, now you're getting "threats", or as we call them here, warnings. Bishonen | tålk 21:28, 2 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Sanctions alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

  • If you do it again, the next one will be indefinite. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:13, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, in case you're interested in learning how Wikipedia does things, I'll try to explain what we mean by neutral here (click that link too, to learn more in detail). I've no idea about Narendra Modi specifically (and I haven't even read the article), but neutrality in Wikipedia terms does not mean an article is written to "keep a balance of positives and negatives". No, articles are written to reflect the balance that exists in reliable sources. As an example, the consensus in reliable sources is that vaccination works and homeopathy doesn't, so the respective articles reflect that. The articles do not present both as 50/50 with equal balance to those who believe they work and those who believe they don't. Is Wikipedia biased? Yes, it's biased towards what reliable sources say. That is by design, and is what an encyclopedia is supposed to do. Anyway, I hope this help. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:23, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
