Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 14:54, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I was blocked the first day I started contributing. This reminds me of purchasing a product and reading the instructions only after I have a problem. That was a mistake. I should have learned more about Wikipedia before I started editing. For a user name, I first tried my first initial and last name, but it was taken. Next, I tried a name I could remember such as where I work. Now I understand that's not allowed. I started editing by looking at examples rather than reading guidelines, another mistake. We make digital clocks where I work and I noticed that out of the thousands of types of digital clocks, Wikipedia only listed a few cheap bedroom clocks under "digital clocks". Missing were 14 and 16 segment clocks, matrix digital clocks, color changing digital clocks, digital clocks that never need to update the time, digital clocks that never require the battery to be changed, countdown digital clocks, stop action digital clocks, rotating digitalclocks, sideral digital clocks and more. I added some content about synchronized digital clocks and planned to add more. I then decided it may be beneficial to readers to include an external link. I didn't even know if this was possible, let alone whether it was allowed or not. So, I saw a link at the botton of the Digital Clock page. It was titled "How Digital Clocks Work". I clicked on it and it was just another dot com advertising site. 2% of the page talked about digital clocks, while 98% is advertising. So I assumed it was alright to add a link. When I added the link, there was some type of warning. I thought it was referring to an error in the link, so I went ahead and added the link. I tested the link later and it worked, so I thought that the warning was about a policy breach, which apparantly it was. If unblocked, I will learn more about the policies and procedures before jumping in and editing. In my defence, when I started my first edit, the program did say to jump in and start editing and don't worry about the markup language. It should have warned me to not edit until I knew what I was doing. Thank you for considering this request. John Bode

Your new name would be OK. However ...

Here are a few key questions:

  • Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory? Yes, I understand.
  • Do you understand conflict of interest? Yes, I understand.
  • Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable? Yes, I understand.

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 17:48, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the above three points now, as well as other guidelines. Thanks, John Bode — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brgprecision (talkcontribs)

Ok, but what will you be doing differently in the future? There are a few hundred policies and guidelines that you now say you understand ... WP:GAB is the key one right now - how to you plan to edit moving forward? You now know that linking to your website will result in repeat blocks. You know that all edits required reliable sources. How will the future be different for John Bode on Wikipedia? the panda ₯’ 11:22, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
