New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Bruxton/Archives/2022,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Help review

Hello sir I created a page Dj Kelblizz, help review it Favouredprince (talk) 00:19, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

@Favouredprince: I see someone tagged your article for speedy deletion.
@Girth Summit: what do you say about my visitor? Bruxton (talk) 00:35, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping. It wasn't who I thought it was going to be, but it was an LTA - I've blocked and requested global lock. Girth Summit (blether) 07:35, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
@Girth Summit: These editors are coming to me for some reason. Thanks for checking! Bruxton (talk) 21:53, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Can you please review my page , why do you all bite me here , Favouredprince (talk) 00:36, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

@Favouredprince: Not at all, I definitely did not bite. I clicked on your article and it is tagged CSD. Bruxton (talk) 01:12, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Can I get your email address ? Favouredprince (talk) 01:18, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I was wondering if you had meant to revert all the edits since the one adding the copyedit tag, or just the one adding the copyedit tag. I generally limit myself to WP:0RR on contentious pages like that, so that's why I wanted to bring it up. If you did mean to revert my edit that's also completely fine. Cheers! TartarTorte 13:40, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

@TartarTorte: Thanks for the message. I edited an old version. Just went and fixed my edits. Thanks for the headsup! Bruxton (talk) 14:01, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

NPP message

Hi Bruxton/Archives/2022,

Invitation

For those who may have missed it in our last newsletter, here's a quick reminder to see the letter we have drafted, and if you support it, do please go ahead and sign it. If you already signed, thanks. Also, if you haven't noticed, the backlog has been trending up lately; all reviews are greatly appreciated.

DYK for Chicago Rising from the Lake

On 21 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Chicago Rising from the Lake, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the sculpture Chicago Rising from the Lake was meant to show the city's rebirth after the Great Chicago Fire but it went missing twice and was eventually found by a Chicago firefighter? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Chicago Rising from the Lake. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Chicago Rising from the Lake), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for Sensory friendly

On 22 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sensory friendly, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that people with sensory processing disorders often require sensory friendly environments which are designed to accommodate their condition? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sensory friendly. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sensory friendly), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. You are unfriendly

Sorry i have to note this: You are unfriendly. Your behaviour[1][2] is turning wikipedia to a kind of closed-shop-area with an odor of Not invented here. Pls. note the existing corresponding[3] + [4] + [5] content. This is not the idea we started this open project. --Tom (talk) 08:48, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

@Tom: That is great, so you should have no problem getting it approved through draft when it is ready. In the future it is best not to put an article in main space before you have added any references. And it is best not to revert the new page reviewer, and then spend two days messaging them. Transfer this negative energy into working on your article and it will be back in main space soon enough. There is no rush. Bruxton (talk) 13:54, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
Sorry. I am just so pissed off, the second time about this "draft carousell" (see my disc) that i think about to spend no more energy for en:wp. That's it if you like to read my deep feelings. --Tom (talk) 13:59, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

MLEC

The page Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative that you pushed to a draft has been submitted for review, as requested. Would appreciate it if you could go in and approve it in the queue. It's been sourced beyond the primary source initially listed and expanded slightly. nf utvol (talk) 01:53, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Merge discussions

Do not disrupt merge discussions because you don't like the outcome. Be less of annoying busybody next time. Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:05, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

I am sorry you feel that way @Hemiauchenia:. I thought it was clearly a WP:BADNC to close your own proposal. I also thought participants of the AfD should be notified. Bruxton (talk) 19:14, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
I think you did the right thing @Bruxton CT55555 (talk) 19:33, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@CT55555: One editor has reverted at the article three times already. I contacted the closer Sandstein. But perhaps I will go to WP:AN. I think it is important not to have a one sided discussion and a BADNAC Bruxton (talk) 19:35, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
