Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your interest in helping out. Don't worry, I'm not entirely sure was a predicate nominative is either, but since I have experience in writing I try to help out at the Guild of Copy Editors, and I think that would be a great place for you too. If you go to the Guild's home page, you can find information and resources to help you out as well as a link to all the articles that need copy editing. Since you have experience blending texts together, you may want to help out with merging or splitting articles. You can go to WP:BACKLOG to find articles that are grouped together according to what problems the articles have (look under the section Layout for a link to articles that need to be split or merged).

Being that you said you attending graduate school, if you have any particular knowledge or expertise in a certain topic, you may wish to join a WP:WikiProject. By joining one, you can find articles of your interest, and you can also discuss things with other editors about those topics. If you have any questions, feel free to talk to me again. I'm not on Wikipedia everyday, but I'll try to get back to you within a day or too. One last note, whenever you leave a message on a talk page, leave your signature on the page by typing ~~~~. A notice, admittedly canned, about signing your posts; but from a live human being (loosely defined)

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment.
