Hi there, and welcome to Wikipedia! All articles created on Wikipedia must be notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. This is to ensure the quality of the content on Wikipedia. To ensure your article meets the criteria, you will want to review the general notability guideline as well as notability for organizations. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or continue the discussion here. Happy editing! --Shirik (talk) 23:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sigma Omega Phi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A tag has been placed on Sigma Omega Phi, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

December 2009[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Sigma Omega Phi. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 23:50, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Sigma Omega Phi‎, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 23:53, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with the Sigma Omega Phi article[edit]

First and foremost, much of it was copied directly from http://sigmaomegaphisorority.org/history/. As you will see on the WP:COPYRIGHT page, Wikipedia does not normally accept copyrighted text, or any text copied directly from a web site which must be presumed to be copyrighted.

Secondly, an article must establish that the subject is Notable. This is most often done by indicating that there has been significant coverage or discussion in published, independent, reliable sources.

Thirdly, facts included should be sourced to reliable sources, as per the verifiability policy. The recollections of individual sisters do not suffice for this unless the have been published somewhere other than Wikipedia first. Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia, normally summarizes or reports what has already been published. The WP:NOT page says that Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought.

Fourthly, as someone writing about an organization you are personally involved with, you should read our conflict of interest guideline. It is very hard for most people to be neutral about subjects they are involved with, but Wikipedia articles must maintain a neutral point of view.

I hope this helps to explain why the article was deleted, and what you would need to do should you decide to re-create it. You might also want to create a userspace draft at a name like User:Emily182g/drafts/Sigma Omega Phi and when you think it is ready, ask an experienced editor to review it. The Help desk is a good place to ask for such help. DES (talk) 00:09, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

March 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Sigma Omega Phi has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.myspace.com.com/sigmaomegaphi/ (matching the regex rule \bmyspace\.com).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. A tag has been placed on Sigma Omega Phi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Removing Speedy at Sigma Omega Phi[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created, as you did with Sigma Omega Phi. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 08:08, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Sigma Omega Phi, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sigma Omega Phi. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
