week 1/Create Wikipedia Account/Cathy0602

Hi, professor. I really love this extra credit. I think it gives us an opportunity to learn more about Wikipedia while helping improving our grades also. Cathy0602 (talk) 20:42, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Cathy0602, Please add posts in chronological order, meaning the newest one should go on the bottom. This helps to keep things organized. Welcome to Wikipedia, and I am glad you find this useful. It may lead to all sorts of unexpected opportunities! FULBERT (talk) 22:55, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 2 / Evaluate an Article / Jade71u

Hi FULBERT,

I evaluated Brand_loyalty article this week. This article is rated as C-Class. I read it a couple of times, and I think adding some pictures to explain the examples might make the article easier to read. Also, some sources of this article didn't complete.

I learned how to evaluate an article from this assignment. For example, all facts in the article need to be backed up by a reliable secondary source of information, and the introductory sentence should be clear.

The link to the evaluation: Jade71u/Evaluate_an_Article

The link to the Talk page: Talk:Brand_loyalty

Best,

Jade71u (talk) 05:51, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Jade71u, I made a few minor tweaks to the Week 2 instructions as I think I was a little unclear. What you have here is fine, but please take a look at what I listed there and make the one minor addition from the assignment itself as a reply to me here. Thank you. FULBERT (talk) 13:42, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT, I made some little edits on the Brand loyalty article page. This is the link to the diff: Brand loyalty: Difference between revisions. Thanks. Jade71u (talk) 18:41, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Jade71u, Great! All current. FULBERT (talk) 22:57, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 2/ Evaluate an Article/ Junwei Sheng

The article I have evaluated is Artificial intelligence in video games. It has been listed as a level-5 vital article on an unknown topic and C-Class on the project's quality scale. This article is within the scope of WikiProject Video games. AI program is in constant progress, but the article is a little outdated. It must be added more current examples to make it more persuasive.

The most thing I have learned in Week2 is that articles in Wikipedia must be neutral. All the conclusions need evidence from different external links.

Junwei Sheng, Nice work overall. This is an example how a basic copyedit can help improve something seen by others. FULBERT (talk) 23:04, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 2/ Evaluate and Copyedit Article/ ANNTTONNY

I evaluated Point forward article this week. This article is rated as C-Class, and WikiProject Basketball. After the article evaluation, I found the contents of this page are insufficient to provide the context regarding the topic. The area that could be improved would the Characteristics section, which lacked the specific role and responsibilities of Point forward. For this week's assignment, I have only done some minor editing of adding a comma in sentences.

The link to the article evaluation: User:ANTTONNY/Evaluate_an_Article#Overall_impressions

The link to the talk page: Talk:Point_forward

The link to the diff: Point forward: Difference between revisions

I learned the processes and methods in article evaluation, along with the neutral tone of all Wikipedia pages. ANTTONNY (talk) 06:22, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

ANTTONNY, Great basic edits to start your work off with. FULBERT (talk) 23:06, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 1 / Create Wikipedia account / Qingmei95

This is my make up extra credit for week 1.Hope it counts since my grade is not very good. --Qingmei95 (talk) 00:20, 05 June 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Qingmei95 (talkcontribs)

Qingmei95, please register for the course in Wiki Edu, as that is not tracking you. Once you do that, then please reply and ping me here and I will review. Also, please make sure you sign your name at the end of your post. --- FULBERT (talk) 11:55, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT, I just edited the two posts. I have problem registering for this course. I thought I am already register since I can see myself as a student in this course. Please let me know what I did wrong.--Qingmei95 (talk) 05:43, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Qingmei95 (talk) 05:42, 08 June 2020 (UTC)
Qingmei95 You seem to be all set now. Also, I fixed the formatting here, including the indent, as something was off with a tag that was entered. Current with week 1. --- FULBERT (talk) 16:06, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 2/ Evaluate an article/ JIAZHI SHUAI

Hi, This week I tried to deep read an article on Wikipedia, and I found there is a typo on it and fixed. But I think it lost some explanation related to China about how CFA would be treated in China. Here is the link for me to evaluate: User:JIAZHI_SHUAI/Evaluate_an_Article Here is the link of Talk page: Talk:Chartered_financial_analyst Here is the link where I did something changed on the article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chartered_Financial_Analyst&action=history

I learned how to cite specific resources for related arguement. Nice assignment!JIAZHI SHUAI (talk) 00:42, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

JIAZHI SHUAI, Please provide the diff per WP:DIFF to your change and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. FULBERT (talk) 17:07, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Here is the link to diff per to my change. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chartered_Financial_Analyst&diff=960443920&oldid=958939977 JIAZHI SHUAI (talk) 02:21, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

JIAZHI SHUAI, Please remember to indent your replies with one colon " : " for each level of indent you want, as this helps with readability. Do this as a reply and then ping me here, and then I will take a look at it and reply. FULBERT (talk) 22:58, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT, Here is the link to provide the DIFF: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chartered_Financial_Analyst&diff=960443920&oldid=958939977 JIAZHI SHUAI (talk) 02:28, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
JIAZHI SHUAI, Great. All current. Next time be sure to indent more with multiple colons, so that it allows for a waterfall effect that is easier to read, with each reply indented one more time than the one above it. OK for now. FULBERT (talk) 16:12, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
FULBERT, This is a really interesting editing method! Thank you! JIAZHI SHUAI (talk) 19:18, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3 / Citation / Yifeng Li

Hello Professor, I added a citation to ARIMA because I find the definition part lack of citation to the inventor.

The link to the diff of the article: diff.

In copyediting, I knew that even a basic subject in a professional field sometimes may be probable to lack adequate citation. The citation problem should be paied attention all the time.

This week I learned that each sentence in Wikipedia should be substantiated in order to maintain credibility.--Yifeng Li (talk) 21:48, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Yifeng Li, Nice addition. All set. FULBERT (talk) 17:08, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

week 1/Create Wikipedia Account/Yuxin L-

Hi professor, this is my first post on the talk page, thank you for the opportunity of the extra credits.Yuxin L- (talk) 08:20, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Yuxin L-, Great, and welcome to Wikipedia! FULBERT (talk) 17:09, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/ Copyedit and Citation/JIAZHI SHUAI

This week, I add a reference (Citation)on Wikipedia (State_school), and learned how to cite specific resources without plagirism. Here is the link to diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=State_school&diff=961738131&oldid=960070536 When we copyedit some resources, we need to provide accurate authors' names and dates of publish. In addition to this, in the references list, we must provide the page number and doi as well. This could help readers look for the journal which we used. I think this process is not hard but needs to be done carefully. If we really want to quote a conclusion from resources, we should give where and when we found the resources. We can also summarize it in our own words and provide the resources' names and dates. Interesting assignment! JIAZHI SHUAI (talk) 04:20, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

JIAZHI SHUAI, Please assign yourself this article in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. FULBERT (talk) 17:48, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
JIAZHI SHUAI, My error, you already did this. All current on your end! FULBERT (talk) 17:49, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/ Add Citation/ Totent

In my article, I added a citation to support an unattributed fact. I used a journal article that was found on Taylor & Francis Online and inserted the citation with the article's doi number (https://doi.org/10.1080%2F15470140802325863).

The link to my edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Canton_Fair&type=revision&diff=961820051&oldid=947319550

In doing this exercise, I have learnt that sources should be attributed to the original authors properly. We should rephrase the ideas in our own words and do not copy the author's originial sentence word for word.

Totent (talk) 02:21, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Totent, Nice addition. All current. FULBERT (talk) 17:51, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3 / Add Citation / Jade71u

Hi FULBERT,

I add a citation to the article Brand loyalty.

This is the article cited: Building brand loyalty through managing brand community commitment

This is the link to diff: Brand loyalty: Difference between revisions

From this assignment, I learned how to avoid plagiarism.

Jade71u (talk) 02:36, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Jade71u, Nice addition! You are current. FULBERT (talk) 17:55, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 3/ Add Citation/ ANTTONNY

In the article 2002–2004 SARS outbreak, I added a citation regarding the date of the first reported case. I used EBSCO Host to find a source that is Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) article. Which is from the World Health Organization, Chinese Law & Government. Jul/Aug2003, Vol. 36 Issue 4, p12-15. 4p. doi: 10.2753/CLG0009-4609360412

Link to diff: 2002–2004 SARS outbreak: Difference between revisions

I learned how to add a citation to articles, and the importance of reliable sources to cite such as textbooks, literature reviews, and books or publications written by experts in the field or published by reliable publishers. Additionally, the types of plagiarism and copyright.

ANTTONNY (talk) 05:17, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

ANTTONNY, Nice addition. All current. FULBERT (talk) 17:58, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Croatian right wing media website (to be reported) !

please note that last edit you made here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vili_Matula&action=history was inserting dates into troubling link to Croatian right wing media website (to be reported) ! The video they referenced and embedded is a copyright infringement of www.HRT.hr (Croatian national TV) and thumbnail used is presenting a highly problematic pro-fascist monument with pro-nazi WW2 Croatian coat of arms (starting with white left corner) that is no longer used to not be mixed with new one from modern Democratic Croatia (starting with red field)... it would help if you report them rather then assist. --2020W (talk) 21:24, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
