Deletion: Byron Smith[edit]

You have just deleted a page that I am working on. You used Speedy Deletion, although the criteria you mentioned are clearly not "patent nonsense or pure vandalism." Byron Smith is a important figure in current mountaineering circles. I am planning to ad much more.

Mark User:Mwamsley

Deletion: TheListUpdater[edit]

You have deleted a page that was about a company selling old Disney World items. First off, it was a young article, and although it may have sounded a bit bias, YOU had ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to cite it as "spam/vanity". I do not own, am employed, shop, or even live near Mouse Surplus. You could've tagged it so someone would rewrite, as SENSIBLE users have done, but it's a young article about a company. Why don't you go ahead to List of United States companies and pick off companies at your leisure? It would be a shame if what YOU were doing was Vandalism. Know what? I'm going to rebuild Mouse Surplus, better than what I had it before! And I'm going to save it on my hard disk. (by TLU) TheListUpdater 19:45, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

possible AfD?[edit]

Hi, I can see that you know more than a little bit about deletions so I want to get your opinion on something. The article Tony Grove is a single sentence which (I think) fails to assert notability per WP:BIO, and it seems doubtful the article could reasonably be expanded. Do you think this is an appropriate candidate for AfD? If so, should it get a "Prod" or just get nom'd for AfD? Thanks in advance for taking the time to educate this newcomer! PS - I noticed you are currently located in Milwaukee, WI. You have my heartfelt condolences :) Also, you can respond here when convenient; I've got you on my watchlist. Doc Tropics 20:38, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I like Milwaukee!
First I'd do some quick google research on the guy, and if nothing came up, then give it a prod tag. If someone de-prods it and you still think he's NN, then go with AfD. Cheers! --Fang Aili talk 22:19, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Fang! I'll follow your advice. I just had to tease you a little because I spent many years in WI, and I hate snow :) Milwaukee can be fun though, especially The Safe House! Doc Tropics 22:24, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, The Safe House is way cool. I don't like winter either, but, heck, it's home. --Fang Aili talk 22:26, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it feels like home to you, then it must be...Home. I had already done the Google search as the first step; out of the first 50 hits I previewed only one mentioned the guy, and that was our article :) It seems like it's time for a prod. Very exciting, I've never done this before so, um...er...what do I do? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Doc Tropics (talkcontribs)

In the article, add {{prod|Why you think it should be deleted}} at the top. --Fang Aili talk 01:32, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I got the Prod in place per your directions. Thanks for taking so much time to help a newcomer :) Doc Tropics 03:02, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anytime! --Fang Aili talk 16:31, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion: TheListUpdater[edit]

I apologize that I exploded over Mouse Surplus, but I would like the original content back so I can hopefully rebuild and rewrite it in the next coming months. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheListUpdater (talkcontribs)

Questions[edit]

Hi Fang Aili,

I've been working on a list of questions, slowly deleting those which I could answer myself by checking the various policy pages. The list of questions I'm left with, I feel positive, only has questions that I felt I couldn't answer by checking myself. If you have some spare time, and don't mind answering some of them, please feel free. I've left them on my admin coaching page. Thanks, --Firsfron of Ronchester 06:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I award you this cookie for having great taste in movies

I love the quote you added to my Userpage! If no one else can tag it with an attribution in a few days I'll do it myself and add another quote.

But I'm not going to use..."I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit; after all...it's the only way to be sure." --Doc Tropics 17:02, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You've earned another cookie but I don't want to clutter your talkpage. I'm going to see if it's possible to get a 'ribbon' like the ones available for Barnstars; if so I'll be adding ribbons to your cookie :) BTW, profanity is a non-issue...not a problem at all. Besides, that's the first quote anyone put up that has me completely stumped! If anything, you deserve extra credit for it. --Doc Tropics 15:16, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted The Wussies (band) at 16:52, 21 June 2006. I don't know much about the band, but its web site seems to assert notability by saying: "Our album Mourning Sickness is reviewed in Zero Magazine!" Could you please consider restoring that page and adding a link to Zero Magazine's review at http://zeromag.com/articles/cd_view.php?id=1092&pi=0 -TruthbringerToronto 18:15, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fender[edit]

Are you trying to tell me that Fender didn't create all the copy and images for the Wikipedia page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jadolph (talkcontribs)

Fender[edit]

Search wikipedia for the word fender, who is a guitar manufacturer. This page is much more in depth than the one I was trying to create. I don't understand how this page can exist, in addition to all the individual guitar pages, and the First Act Limited Edition Guitar - Lola page you recently deleted can not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jadolph (talkcontribs)

Request to delete stuff.[edit]

IIRC, you're an administrator. I don't know if you're allowed to do this, but can you delete everything in my user namespace and user talk space (should just be the main pages, a monobook.js, and user talk archives)... I'm done with Wikipedia. Thanks. -- Jjjsixsix (talk|review)@ 19:38, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mmkay, thanks. I pretty much decided this would be the case last week, gave it a bit more thought, and basically just finalized it. It's a great project and all... but sometimes the disfunctionality of it just drove me nuts. -- Jjjsixsix (talk|review)@ 19:45, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
People tend to frown upon having User talk pages deleted. Could you undelete that and just blank and protect it. — The King of Kings 22:08 June 30 '06
Whenever I tried to request my right to vanish before, they allowed me to delete everything but my talk page. Unless he has something to hide, I don't think the history of the page should be deleted. Its probabaly better to just undelete, blank and protect so everyones edits aren't deleted. — The King of Kings 23:08 June 30 '06

sockpuppets on parade[edit]

HI, there appears to be a (large) number of sockpuppets involved in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/What Really Happened (2nd nomination). I looked to WP:ANI first, but they seem to have a 3 week backlog and an AfD is a little more time-sensitive than that. I know that in other AfDs the remarks of confirmed sockpuppets have been struck out; it seems to be appropriate in this case, but I'm not sure where to turn for help. Can you point me in the right direction? --Doc Tropics 22:02, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean you have something to do on a Friday night that doesn't involve the computer? Next thing you'll be claiming you have an RL too. Thanks for looking in on the AfD; I figured the closer would sort through it, but as you noted, there were more than a couple of Anons involved and it's getting a little goofy on that page. Have a good weekend :) --Doc Tropics 23:35, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hope your stress passes soon[edit]

File:Esperanza.Fhloston.jpg
Esperanza hopes that your stress will blow away soon.

Erica,

I saw that you were stressed from the alerts page, so I figured I'd drop in and say hello. Don't let individuals get you down- you've done a great job so far of staying civil in your discussions, and I'm confident that if you keep using common sense and previous discussions to try to show consensus, the situation will work itself out. You're a great lady...er, woman...and I'm sure your continued presence at the figure skating articles will make that corner of the wiki a much better place indeed. :o)

EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 02:44, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hehehe... with EWS23's lady/woman comment, I don't know what else would cheer you up (it certainly gave me a laugh!). I'm sorry to hear that you're stressed out, though. It's always hard when what seems like a simple discussion escalates into something that causes issues. I know that you will work it out in your lovely way, so don't despair! -- Natalya 03:14, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll chime in and add some warm wishes. I hope your Wiki-stress is relieved soon. Take care, Firs. --Firsfron of Ronchester 03:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stressed?[edit]

Hey Fang, I noticed that Pair skating is causing you stress, I hope it clears up or has already done so. Unfortunately I can relate, I returned from holiday, I use "holiday" in the loosest sense of the term, and I found three imposters. Thank you for helping with my Admin Coaching, I hope you can keep it up (mysekurity (that it?) has gone walkabout ;). Cheers, Highway Batman! 16:10, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

*bounces* The O.C.! ; ) I have to wade through paperwork to do anything. I found another imposter of me, then I had to file a checkuser, create a category, realize why the name looked exactly like mine (which gave me a headache!) and now I wait. I'm not sure to log it in the arb com or not because it was a week afterwards. I really don't know in general. Anyway, Highway Batman! 16:17, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
They're in the voting stage, and two are already listed. And someone already left a note on the Proposed decision talk page. It doesn't make much difference, all the main points are covered. Who was I kidding went I thought summer would be calm? ;) Highway Batman! 16:25, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Absolute Skating link[edit]

Hi there,

I have added a link to Absolute Skating a while ago and now I see that it has been removed. Figure Skating Spins[edit]

First of all, thank you for the warm welcome to WikiProject Figure Skating.

Since I'm unfamiliar with templates and styles, I was wondering if you think the figure skating spins article is getting a bit disorganized. I thought of maybe categorizing spins based on basic positions, like upright/sit/camel/layback, and possibly a mention of pair/dance spins on the main figure skating spins article.

Should we just organize the spins on the current article or should we create a few more articles based on basic spin positions or categories? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuskMelon (talkcontribs)

Thanks! All six of us worked really hard on this article (there are more than 6 people signed up for the project, but only six people regularly contribute). This is the first time I've ever actually added inline cites to articles. It's really great to see some of my work featured on the main page... at the same time, getting to the main page just leads to a lot of vandalism and strange edits that have to be closely monitored. ;) Well, see ya around, Fang Aili! :)--Firsfron of Ronchester 13:36, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, someday I'll have a figure skating article featured and on the main page. The problem is that I really don't know that much about figure skating, so I'd have to do actually book research! :O Or maybe the figure skating wikiproject will get a bunch more members.. I can only hope. --Fang Aili talk 13:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I checked, and you guys do have a WikiProject template with a link to the figure skating wikiproject on the article talk pages. For us, that's part of the reason our project is active at all. We stuck our tag on all 1,000 talk pages, and that helped us get some more volunteers. Hang in there... you'll get a featured article. :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 13:53, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IP Blocks[edit]

Saw your post at Wikipedia talk: Block log. To answer your question, open proxies are the only IPs which can be blocked indefinitely. There is too much potential collateral damage otherwise, not just for current users but future ones from the same IP. Okay, cool. I just didn't know what had been on there. We at the Star Wars WikiProject have our hands full with tons of articles, and I'm part of the crew attacking the book and comic articles and getting them up and in shape. That wasn't the way the article was going to stay. An intro and summary among other things were going to make their way in there. I guess I'll wait until I have those things ready before I start it back up. Okie dokie... —Skope 20:26, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

German Translation[edit]

I have picked an article you requested, History of Figure Skating, as my next German translation project. It's a lengthy article, so it could take up to a week to translate. About this... It might take a bit longer than I thought, not because the translation is difficult, but because I was just made an admin and I'm still very fascinated with my new rights. I've settled down and translated a bit. You can find a link here. I do have to say, my admin week was interesting. I got involved in a user talk page war, blocked over fifty usernames permanently in twelve minutes in a fight with a particularly irascible account creation troll, deleted nearly 200 things, and cleaned out eight days of TfDs. Pedometer[edit]

Regarding the nv spam deletion for the Pedometer wiki entry, I would like to discuss the possibility of adding Accusplit Pedometers as an external link, and the validity of accustep10000.org as a more valid entry for the 10,000 Steps a day activity link.

I have modified the Pedometer page once more. The reasoning behind changing the 10,000 steps link is because the current link is serving as an advertising link to the Shape Up America store and a more valid link is to information about the creator of the 10k steps program and the program itself.

Thanks for letting me be your "padawan". I consider you a mentor and a friend. Thanks for everything, Firs. --Firsfron of Ronchester 21:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tonia Kwiatkowski[edit]

I wrote the recent additions to the Tonia Kwiatkowski page. As a competitive figure skater (currently competing in domestic and international masters-level (i.e. old people!) events, and preparing to take my senior-level (8th and final) USFSA skating test), much of what I wrote was based on my own knowledge, as I have watched competitive skating since the early 1980s, have many performances on tape, and personally know a number of elite-level skaters, judges and officials. When I was in doubt regarding details, I double checked my facts with video recordings and archival article research on lexis-nexis and other news databases.

Almost all of the competition event details I wrote about on the Tonia Kwiatkowski page were events which I either watched live, have seen recordings of, or both. For those details where written press coverage is available, would you like citations to those? I am uncertain, however, how to source things which can only be confirmed by watching a spoecific video, or more generally by watching coverage of the sport over a period of 2.5 decades. For example, my comment on Tonia's style development is based on watching her performances over many years. Because I saw these performances as they occurred (and can rewatch many of them using my own videos or those on youtube or various skating video-sharing online forums), I witnessed the progression in style over a long period of time. How does one source this obvious change in style and dress, or than to say it is self-evident if you watch videos and compare her appearance in 1990 with her appearance in 1996 and 1998?

I am also the author of the Karen Magnussen page, which, from my perspective, contains no more or less potentially biased statements.

I prefer to remain anonymous for the time being, so perhaps you can reply here which components of the Tonia Kwiatkowski article you believe are slanted towards her. I have no bias for or against the skater, but was merely reporting the qualitative nature of her competitive career beyond easily verifiable results, which was all that was on the page. Please also state which facts you think should have citations or sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.87.223.155 (talkcontribs)

I would love to take your edits at face value. However everything on Wikipedia must be verifiable. What's self-evident to you might not be so to others. Whatever sources you have, please list them. They need not be online sources; you could cite "short program, 1992 U.S. Nationals", for example. (I wonder if some of her programs are available on youtube.com.) But I must stress that "qualitative nature" is not the same to everyone. If you're to state these points you must have sources to back them up. But thank you for taking the time to add to the article. I know it's hard to source everything, but we must strive to do so. Thanks. --Fang Aili talk 15:27, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Surfing (Counter-Strike)[edit]

The article Surfing (Counter-Strike) you speedy deleted was NOT a repost of the earlier article. It was a completely different version. It was a really terrible article, I agree to that, but CSD-G4 did not apply in this case. Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 14:35, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NOT a gameguide is also not a proper reason for speedy deletion. Please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Surfing (Counter-Strike) (second nomination). Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 15:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've relisted it: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Surfing (Counter-Strike) (third nomination). Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 15:21, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know this AfD is mentioned in a discussion I started on the AfD talk page: Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion#Too liberal closure and deletion_during_AfD. Best regards, Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 09:22, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

revert[edit]

Thanks for the quick revert! --Fang Aili talk 17:36, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Looks like user is angry about a non-notable band article that was deleted. I'm watching for further issues.--Firsfron of Ronchester 17:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're fast! :)--Firsfron of Ronchester 17:47, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations...[edit]

...(I think) on hailing from "the most 'representative' state". --EEMeltonIV 05:41, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: liberal interpretation of AfD rules[edit]

Just to let you know that one of the AfDs you closed recently is mentioned in a discussion I started on the AfD talk page: Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion#Too liberal closure and deletion_during_AfD. Best regards, Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 09:22, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for this heads-up, but I didn't close the AfD. It was closed by Fang Aili and I tidied up the AfD after him/her as a housekeeping measure. This has been copied to Fang Aili's Talk page. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  13:15, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
