Ayodhya Bombing suspects[edit]

Greetings. In my attempt at cleaning up the article about the 2005 attack on the Ramjanmabhoomi site, I came across these articles that you began; Asif Iqbal (Ayodhya bombing suspect) and Irfan Khan (Ayodhya bombing suspect). At the time, I can well understand why you created the articles; however, it now seems like the cases died a quiet death, and I can't seem to find any reference to them after 2006. The few online pages I found are copied from Wikipedia. Therefore, I think the time has come to get rid of them. I saw your notice, but it seems like you aren't the only contributor to the articles; so, I have PROD'd them both. If you have any objection, or if you find more material, or something, go ahead and remove the PRODs, and I'd be happy to discuss them. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 07:33, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think these two articles measured up to the wikipedia's standards of 2006, but, as you suggested, they do not measure up to the wikipedia's current, mor demanding, standards. Rather than delete them, I am going to redirect them to 2005 Ram Janmabhoomi attack in Ayodhya. This was the main article you referred to, wasn't it?
I think this is preferable to deletion, as it keeps the revision history available, and makes the references uses accessible for recycling in other articles.
Thanks for your note.
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 16:51, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • That works just as well, if not better. Yes, that was indeed the main article. I do not fault the creation in any way; our standards have risen, but that news story also died a quiet death, and nobody seems to know what happened to these people after 2006. Thanks for responding so promptly, Cheers, Vanamonde93 (talk) 17:08, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Asif Iqbal (Ayodhya bombing suspect)[edit]

The article Asif Iqbal (Ayodhya bombing suspect) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage currently available merely says that he was arrested in connection with the bombing; there is no in-depth coverage of this individual of any kind, and the article currently seems to fail WP:BIO Vanamonde93 (talk) 07:33, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. • No one agreed with this nominator. He or she got defensive when I requested a greater effort to comply with WP:BEFORE. Geo Swan (talk) 11:21, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mapping tool issue 13 Dec 2014[edit]

Link not working or valid 13 Dec 2014 Hi Geo Swan. You referred to this tool http://www.aquarius.geomar.de/omc/ when you created Kingman Reef orthographic map - excellent map but there is an issue with the tool - Is is still about but a different link? Does Wikipedia still want this colour scheme or have they switched to Grey/ green?

Thanks (LawrieM (talk) 09:36, 13 December 2014 (UTC))

  • I used the tool to create about 200 maps, without really paying attention to who funded that site.
I was extremely disappointed when it went away, without warning, about 5 years ago.
The guys behind the site had wrapped a surprisingly easy to use interface around some gnarly tools, tools that are free and that are still available for download, online. But the download is big, and it is all command line based, with multiple steps, and with many complicated options. Geo Swan (talk) 14:35, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto Express[edit]

Media related to Toronto Express (ship, 2003) at Wikimedia Commons
You seem to have an interest in ships and have created a few articles along with numerous pictures taken by you in the harbour. Did you know there was a ship named Toronto Express? Secondarywaltz (talk) 04:15, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

re: Complying with WP:BEFORE...[edit]

Thank you for your message however you seem to forget WP:AGF and have a very confrontational position on my XfD. You should consider that at face value my nomination was in good faith as Steve Munro does not and did not appear to meet the requirements for an author to be notable on Wikipedia. I stand by my nomination and ask that you tone your accusations down ESPECIALLY when you are involved as the creator of the article. Priyanka Chopra edit[edit]

What I did was move the citation to where the text was, just like all the other 200 references in the article. You had placed it in a unconventional location. The tool was used to format the dates to match every other one; you used an unconventional date format per the rest of the article. The whole citation method of one parameter per line is also unlike the rest of the article. Please try to be consistent with existing content. BollyJeff | talk 00:09, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bollyjeff! And hence my revert as well. So there is no need to accuse others of bad faith. -- KRIMUK90  02:54, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Gaillard Hunt (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Mohamedou Ould Slahi[edit]

Hey Geo Swan, I've had the book release date in the back of my mind for a while. Meaning to start cleaning up and improving the article before the launch. Well, now it's upon us. I think I'll have a good chunk of time on Sunday and will start preparing materials before then. I'll start a Talk page section on the article page and invite people to work together for the next couple of weeks. Any interest in contributing? Or know anyone else to notify?

Mnnlaxer (talk) 14:56, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Slahi is certainly someone who merits substantial coverage. Either I am losing my memory, or I just don't remember reading that excerpt from his book Slate published in 2013. I wonder if some other Canadian government that a Stephen Harper government would consider giving him asylum.
I am not sure I have much new to contribute but I will keep an eye on the talk page.
If Sherurcij was still around I am sure he would have some excellent ideas.
Are you considering buying his book? Geo Swan (talk) 19:03, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI, this edit of yours had a quirky effect on a ref (the one by Eric Schmitt); if it's just a one-off, no harm done as i've corrected it, but if it's something that might repeat in some way, i thought you might like to know. Cheers, LindsayHello 17:53, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up. Cause? I push my little computer to its limit, with the result the cursor sometimes isn't where I think it is.
I triy to remember to do a comparison before every save, to catch this, but I guess I didn't, this time. Geo Swan (talk) 05:38, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No worries; i imagined it was probably something similar to that ~ i also find my cursor where i think it isn't at times, and i'm sure such errors could easily be found in my (far fewer than yours) contributions. Carry on... Cheers, LindsayHello 15:37, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Caledonia LRT station[edit]

Hi George. In the interest of civil communication, this is to let you know that I have removed your image from the article because the station is not located at that intersection, but is much further west at the shopping plaza on the west side of the railway. Secondarywaltz (talk) 05:23, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That is OK.
After I added the image, I added some more references, and noticed that the station was to be 300 metres west of Caledonia. I am puzzled that the station is named after Caledonia Road, and not the nearest north-south intersecting street. Geo Swan (talk) 05:34, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
