A new Oxbridge user box[edit]

Ghaag...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Thank you. - LA @ 18:07, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lanfeust of Troy[edit]

Glad to see someone tackling this one. I hope you haven't fallen by the wayside.

If you can be bothered, check out my blog where I've started translating the Trolls of Troy strips into English.

I tried to post the link here a few minutes ago but wikipudica proscribed it, deeming it "spam". Obviously My_Space references are not encouraged within these sanctified cloisters. So I'll carefully weasel it through in straight text format:

I need some help translating this from French to English[edit]

I saw that you are a translator on the French Translation page... I need some help translating the following letter into English. It was written by General Pulaski, while traveling to find food for the starving soldiers at Valley Forge. I know it's an inconvenience to ask you to do this, but I would very much appreciate it. If you don't have time though, I understand. Thanks.

Berlington [N.J.] le 28 Fevrie à Minuit 1778

Sir

Je repets à V. • OK, before you even considere the translation you have to realise that this text is barely written in french. The author only had a minimal grasp of the language (even given the time difference). There are several sentences where I could only translate literally as they made no sense to me. Anyway here is my attemtp:
Berlington [NJ] on the 28th of February 1778, Midnight
Sir,
I have the privilege to report that having re-grouped all the cavalry of Blan's regiment and my own detachment we were 44 "cavaliers" 5 lower [or maybe "ground"] officers reporting for duty. Even though they are 698 not in the best of state I walked with them towards the Enemy. But as the way is [unsafe] I find myself having to spend the night in Burlington. As soon as tomorow, I intent to locate the Enemy and act accordingly. I will see the General Wayne and will focus with him. I won't neglect anything for the welfare od the Service but to be under his command which I don't expect, I will nevertheless serve the Public interrest despite my personal cost.
After this, my General, I will endeavour to reduce your embarrassment towards me by resining from the duty bethowed upon me by the Congress on your recommendation.
I sent from here 2 armed ships towards Ancokes Krik to observe by the river the progress of the Enemy which was at 2h pm on 4 buildings [or aboard 4 ships] at the place called Sene Merize.I stress to your excellency the utmost necessity to tend to the need of the cavalry. It is in need of everything. I would have liked to do to least equipped regiment of Blan with pikemen but as I am not allowed we need to find other ways...without leaving the colonels who are most certainly not
I am not talking for myself. I do not expect to have the honour to lead this troop during the next campaign but as I will always have the interests of the Americans at heart I feel compelled to present my view. In particular if after me lead is given to Colonel Moilen the whole cavalry will be in the same state than his regiment. Colonel Blan is an active officer who would be better fitted for this task and in my view mister Moilen could be satisfied with something else. I am stating only what I feel necessary.
I respectfully cherish the honour to be the very humble and obedient servitor of your Excellency.

My sincere thanks[edit]

Thank you so much for taking the time to translate this. I'm sorry for any inconvenience. French was not Pulaski's first language. But aside from that your translation seems very good. As a precaution, I sent this letter to several other people on the French translation page. Your translation is more understandable than some of theirs. Thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rochlafayette (talkcontribs) 00:37, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say it was easy but I agree that getting several version is nescessary to understand the intended meaning.

Position of {{Primarysources}} in Project management article[edit]

Hi Ghaag, I have explained on the Project management talk page why I removed the tag again. Please respond first and wait untill some kind of consensus is reached, before adding teh tag again. Thank you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 15:25, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Putting a banner on top of an article has nothing to do with assume good faith or not. It is about putting things in perspective here. But I hope my arguments have explained my action.

Ok, at the time I checked, I didn't see any discussion on the topic. The warning banner was already existing but I felt it wasn't useful at it's location (ie bottom of the page surrounded by content). Since it was a page banner I moved it at the top of the page.
Now with regard to WP:GF I placed it in order to get you to consider why I edited in that way. I did the edit in good faith and it should have been reverted after discussing the matter rather than indulging in hostile editing.
I read the discussion you created after your second revert. I understand your point and will address it there.

WP:ADS in Project management contested[edit]

Please do not delete content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Project management, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 01:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In this case 64.41.179.238 has clearly stated previously that the image constituted advertising. In accordance with WP:ADS, he/she immediately removed the material. As you speedily reverted it I restored the deletion stating again in the edit summary that it appeared to be marketing material and advertising.

If there is not a single other editor that agrees with you, please find some consensus elsewhere. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 08:10, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect the balance of concensus on this matter is clearly in favor of the removal of the contentious image but I consider this matter still open since you proposed a solution and I have not made any change yet as I wait for you to act on it.
Ghaag (talk) 08:51, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please keep the discussion on the Project management talk page. I don't see anybody that agrees with you there. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 09:24, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Again, may I respectfully point out that YOU brough the discussion here and I am merely answering you point.
