Transfer dates

On 2006-07_in_English_football#Summer_transfer_window seem wrong as it's not July yet... ed g2stalk 14:25, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

We should probably use the date the agreement was announced then. ed g2stalk 18:18, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

July the 1st is the day the transfer will go through so that is what it should be. Gran2 20:09, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Screencap6.JPG)

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Screencap6.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

Jermaine Pennant

Hi there. Please don't add Jermaine Pennant to the Liverpool F.C. page, or update his own page to call him a Liverpool player, until the official LFC site confirms the transfer. We've already had to deal with this jumping-the-gun over Bellamy, Aurelio and Cisse over the last month or so, and it'd be nice to not have to keep reverting the page. Thanks :-) Seb Patrick 16:21, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I just thought with the flashing Pennant joins Liverpool on Sky Sports and BBC Sport News kind of implied it had happened. I really don't see why it matters that it hasn't been updated by the official site. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, it just means there not as fast. Gran2 17:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, we all knew it was going to happen, it's just that in a place like Wikipedia it's best to wait for official confirmation before altering squad listings etc - after all, it's a reference site, not a news site. And deals have been known to fall through at the last minute before. It's just that you weren't the first person to make the edit before an official announcement had been made, so some pretty continuous reverting was having to be done. But, no harm done, it's all sorted and done with now, it was just a friendly note. Seb Patrick 18:57, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I see, I'll wait for official confirmation in future. Thank you for actually telling me this as you have and explaining why you reverted my edits, which is more than some people would. I apologise if I sounded at all rude. Gran2 20:16, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
No worries :-) I always find it's best to assume people are editing stuff in good faith, as you clearly were. And nah, I didn't think you sounded rude; likewise, I didn't mean to sound brusque in my initial comment! Seb Patrick 19:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Changing [[? F.C.]] to {{fc}} templates

Why are you going through and changing working links in the standard [[...]] format to {{fc}} templates? Surely when the page is made and served to a web browser, all the server does is expand the template back out to a [[...]] format before creating the HTML? I know it's easier to do when creating new links, but don't see the point of amending already working ones. - fchd 18:47, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I suppose your right in that sense, but what I mean is they were {{fc}} and someone changed them to [[...]]. I changed them back because I didn't see the point in them being changed when the were {{fc}} when they were first put in. If that makes sense. That's why I changed them. But usually ones already there I leave them. Gran2 19:03, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Proposal for managing song lists on Simpsons episodes

Hi, hope you don't mind me posting to your userpage but I'm trying to collect opinion on a proposal relating to The Simpsons and, despite posting to various talk pages, I've had no feedback at all (except from a co-planner). I don't mind if all the opinion is negative (then I'll just forget the idea) but I'd like it to get some visibiltiy. I'm not going to go implement it unless the consensus is positive.

I'm proposing changing the way we manage lists of songs in episodes. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject The Simpsons/Proposal for managing song lists on Simpsons episodes which has a full explanation of the proposal. Please leave comments there.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on this, or any views on where else it should be discussed --Mortice 12:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I saw you made the links Homer Jay Simpson and Lisa Marie Simpson piped links. The previous links did direct to the correct pages, and Wikipedia accessability guidelines suggets avoiding piped links when possible (screen readers will read both phrases, so it would say "Homer Simpson Homer Jay Simpson" instead of "Homer Jay Simpson". Since the original links go to the right articles, I'm going to change it back, but I figured I'd let you know why. Natalie 03:20, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah sorry. I just saw that they weren't 100% accurate, although still right, so I changed them. Gran2 07:16, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Edits to ListGenBot tags

Hi, well done for picking season 6 to edit.

Wikipedia:WikiProject The Simpsons/Example generated lists/S06 contains all the lists for Season 6 - you'll see a few of the writers and directors etc have a pipe on the end of their names, that's something to watch out for when editing - the pipes in the infobox need to bemoved to outside the SourceEnd tag --Mortice 23:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Please do not post slang words such as "sucked" into articles.Thankyou.Nadirali 14:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

What? I have never, and don't ever plan to. It was just on the TALK page of Lisa Simpson, not the article. And I was using it to make a point, plus I couldn't be bothered to use "was really bad". If it was in an article I would, but it wasn't. Gran2 15:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Simpsons - Homer's Enemy

Hey thanks for cleaning up the link to the quotes. I added the quotes to wikiquote, but didn't really know the proper way to link to them (I'm still learning wikicode). Anyway cheers for cleaning up the article as well, It's one of my favourite episodes.

hi, sorry about the premier league season thing. just thought it was quite an important weekend, but yeh i get what you mean. i'm standing by now until man utd win and chelsea lose so i can add something!! cheers, please reply SamuelGosney

Hey no worries at all. You actually did a good job at adding it, and referenced it as well. It was just sort off... you know. It was a strange weekend, but I just feel it didn't merit mention. I think at the end of the season, if this proves to be a key weekend, then I say add it into the premier league section, which will be added upon the season's end. You'll see when it comes. And as a Chelsea fan, I hope that you won't have to add about Man United beating them! But you seem to be a valuable addition to wikipedia, so stick aroud! If you have any question feel free to ask! Just a small note, I don't know that much about The Football League and I won't be able to donate that much time to it, but I will take part in all discussions and look after and create the odd page. Gran2 20:14, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

I want to comment on Homer's Phobia. Don't worry, I will look into the spin-off episode eventually, but I right now I think this episode is more important. I think you should decide whether the image in the production is all that important. If you have read my FAC for Cape Feare, then you know that people have strict policies about "decorative" images. The synopsis should probably be cited. I've asked around and people seem to think that is the way to go these days. I'm going to cite the synopsis of Cape Feare myself. Is it possible to make a cultural references section? Even if it is a small one it could be useful. There is a few mentioned on the BBC website and in the official guide book. Perhaps there is even a few mentioned on the commentary track. Finally, I would try and expand the lead as much as possible. --Maitch 14:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I've done the cult refs, I've just included all of the music that is used in the episode, I think that is all that should be included as its the only clear things. I've referenced the synopsis with the official site, would doing what Scorpion does by using all (BBC, Complete Guide, Official Site) be better? And as it was just uploaded to make the page look nicer, the second image has been removed. Gran2 16:31, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure myself how to reference a synopsis properly. I missed your reference, because I thought it was only for the music. Anyway, it is probably fine by now and if somebody complains, you can always insert more references. --Maitch 16:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually the reference that was already there was just for the music, but I've moved that down into the cult refs section. Also, as I need this to be double checked, am I write in saying that it won more awards than any other episode? (I think one of the Treehouse of Horrors won more) Because that would be a good addition to the lead. Gran2 16:51, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I think your article is shaping up to be great now (better than Cape Feare at least), but I think you should do something about the stubby paragraphs. There are three one-sentence paragraphs, which is a problem (see also Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles#Paragraphs). I would recommend paragraphs with at least three sentences in it, so you can either expand or merge. I've seen it pop up in other FACs, so it might come up if you don't fix now. --Maitch 17:27, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Borat

Why did you remove the trivia section of Borat the movie?Rnazar 16:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Because it is currently a featured article candidate and trivia sections do not belong in FA quality articles. Yours was of good quality, but it just doesn't belong in an FA standard article. See WP:TRIVIA for more info. Gran2 17:02, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. Gran2 20:08, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Featured topic

I was thinking Season 6 or 8 would be best. 6 because there are already 4 GAs and 8 because there will soon be an FA. Although if need be, we can try and beef up a 6 FA... Perhaps Lisa's Wedding or Homer's Enemy. Either way, 8 sounds good. We should try and bring Maitch in to help. For the time being, we should each pick 5 episodes and try to get them to GA status over the next couple weeks. I'll take THOH VII, You Only Move Twice, The Homer They Fall, El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer) and Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious. -- Scorpion 13:59, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Nah, you can finish it because you've been working on it and have a better idea of where your going with it. FYI, the guy who wrote Planet Simpson loves that episode and raves about Cash as the Coyote, calling him the best guest voice ever. He was also on the list of greatest guest stars by IGN. My fifth ep will be Hurricane Neddy. -- Scorpion 14:30, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Very good then. I'm currently at school, but when I get home, I'll look up exactly what Chris Turner says about Cash and add it to the article. Also, I'm not sure what the title given is on the DVD, but we should go by whatever that is. Or, the title in the Copyright Database. -- Scorpion 14:40, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
It's from Planet Simpson. -- Scorpion 17:52, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Images - "When using multiple images in the same article, they can be staggered right-and-left", I do not see any benefit to this, predominantly images are right aligned ("Generally, right-alignment is preferred to left- or centre-alignment" -MoS) and so skim reading articles it catches me of guard when I see a left aligned image ("silly"), and frankly I believe the image looks better on the right. If consensus on the talk page agrees left aligning is best then I will concede. Matthew 17:22, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Reply to Snake image

I am replying to your comment. It may be because Snake was originally going to wear brown, and that image could've been released by FOX, before the episode that he first appeared in aired, but the creators of The Simpsons may have decided to make him wear blue instead of brown, but even so, FOX didn't delete the original image. And about the usage, it is properly tagged so it is probably okay to use without a source. --98E 20:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

A major plot point has a British football crowd calling out "flopper" at a match. The UK are US are two countries separated by a common language, there are many many examples ranging from "Mars bar" to "jumper", I am sure that it is relevant to say that this is another one and that the episode is factually incorrect.

Homer's and Bart's articles

Why do Homer's and Bart's articles have to be so much shorter than the other Simpson characters!? Marge, Lisa and even suporting characters like Mr.Burns and Ned Flanders have MUCH longer pages than them, even though they are the MAIN characters! Homer's article especially needs to be longer. He has the shortest article of all Simpson family member except for Maggie, even though he appears most in the series! both homer and bart once HAD good, informative articles, but around last december someone shortend them to a ridiculous degree. I just tried to restore some of that information but you erased it. Why? I can admit that maybe their former articles (atleast Homers) was a bit TO long. But still, Homer having an article about half the lenght of Lisas is unaceptable! And lisas article (for example) has just as much "in-universe dravel" as Homer's and Bart's old articles... I inderstand that you don't think youtube was a good reference for what I said, but you should know that it is a true fact, and the video on youtube was the only way to point that out, look at the video. Rodrigue 16:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

What do you mean it has nothing to do with this episode?.The frist trivia in the article is about another unrealted episode that was similiar to this one, and I was talkiing about another similiar episode that also used the 24 theme and had kiefer sutherland on the episode, so at the least it should mention how he was on the simpsons on another episode. Rodrigue 16:34, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, I suppose for now that's alright.I will probably bring this up on the talk page though. Rodrigue 16:44, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Bullet points

Why did you remove those? Without the bullet points, the information is a mess. If you're going to remove something, please explain why. Thanks. --Jnelson09 01:34, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Why does having the different parts in prose instead of a list make it better? --Jnelson09 05:32, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

"Do not use bullets if the passage reads easily using plain paragraphs or indented paragraphs." The paragraph in question doesn't read very easily, though. The citations make it even more complicated. It's confusing. --Jnelson09 05:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Just to say thanks for reviewing Things Aren't Simple Anymore, for your comments, and listing it as a GA. The JPStalk to me 14:03, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Peep Show episodes

I merged them all because they were just plot summaries - I have nothing against the show, in fact, I love the show. Although, with something like Peep Show, it's easy to have cultural references and such, like that "fatal wanking accident".

By the way, I notice you're an excellent contributor - two FAs and 15 GAs in one year? I'm only on one and a half in two years! Hopefully, if you get some WP:VANDALwhacking 'round your belt, you could be an admin soon. Good luck! Will (We're flying the flag all over the world) 12:21, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

If you nicked my GA imagemap, your co-ordinates bar would look like:

Simpsons Movie soundtrack

There are lots of "Music From and Inspired by" soundtracks. Still, what does The Hollywood Reporter say? Alientraveller 16:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

I'll axe it then. Somehow somebody abused Wikipedia into a rumourmill. Alientraveller 16:36, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

You're back!

How was your holiday? So, you getting ready for more Simpsons articles for me to review? Alientraveller 20:23, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Eh, nothing major, for me I just rewrote Jack Sparrow to a GA/FA standard and I've got GCSES, which are fine for me. Alientraveller 20:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Mind, what do you mean by major? Our lord and master appeared on the Colbert Report for one. Alientraveller 20:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Good luck with that, I hope you revised on the plane. I have history tomorrow, which will be easy. I never got so nervous about exams: either I'm biologically-tuned to find revision and exams lemon-squeasy, or I'm biologically-tuned to be a lazy bastard. I'll go with the former, but I'm biased of course. Alientraveller 20:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Yup, yup, I've replied. Very nice work: I actually like Mitchell and Webb and look forward to seeing them return to the BBC (Peep Show is on too late). Mitchell kinda reminds me of Sylvester McCoy. I look forward to seeing your work on the Harry Potter films: I like them but have no particular interest in them encyclopedically if you get me: Warner Bros cranking an illustration of the books for fans to look it as it were. Alientraveller 14:44, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Great job on reworking the page! One thing that could be added: I once read that Phil Hartman had recorded lines for Treehouse of Horror IX and Troy was supposed to be the character who hosted the execution show. But after Hartman's death, it was decided that they shouldn't do it. You may have a hard time finding a reliable source, but it might be on the season 10 DVD.

I did find it at TV.com but I don't think it's a Reliable source. -- Scorpion0422 17:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I saw that and the guy has caused havoc on several pages. I have given him a vandalism warning. -- Scorpion0422 18:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I was just reading through this -- good job. But "Kevin McClure"? I might be mistaken but didn't he begin the commercial in Marge in Chains with "Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You might remember me from P is For Psycho and The President's Neck is Missing"?WindsorFan 18:44, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I've nominated the article for GA. It's excellent, and I hope someone will agree. Alientraveller 18:54, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I made copyedits you'll be pleased to know. I guess peer reviews are stagnant but your article is really fine. Would you comment on E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial's FAC by the way? It's been going too slowly for my taste too. Alientraveller 19:22, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Just thought you might like to know that there is a television character page which is an FA. Paulo (Lost) was promoted about a month ago and you might get some ideas from that page. It is looking REALLY good and if we can expand it, Troy might become the first Simpsons character to hit FA. -- Scorpion0422 20:45, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for the E.T. support. Alientraveller 20:10, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Simpsons

I saw your name on the talk page, and I remembered it from Alien's talk page. I thought I'd let you know that I'm concerned about the use of TV.com and IMDb.com user ratings. There aren't things allowed in film articles, so I wasn't sure why they were being allowed in television episodes. I understand that television shows can't show the "money talks" creed of films, but they have Nielsen Ratings that let us know how many people watched the episode. The big problem with TV.com and IMDb is the potential vote stacking, and the lack of representative sampling they provide. The Simpsons get millions of viewers an episode, and I don't believe 150 people's opinions is an accurate representation of those viewers. Bignole 00:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed there wasn't a consistency with using them, as one Simpsons episode didn't have it, out of the ones that were FA. Bignole 09:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject The Apprentice UK

Hello, Gran2/Archive 1 and thank you for your contributions on articles related to The Apprentice UK. I'd like to invite you to become a part of WikiProject The Apprentice UK, a WikiProject aiming to improve coverage of The Apprentice UK and related articles on Wikipedia.

If you would like to help out and participate, please come over and visit us here for more information. Thanks! Dalejenkins 14:03, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer but I don't like The Apprentice much, I never watch it. I just can't help laughing at Alan Sugar, "you're a total shambles". Gran2 14:12, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

That's OK, thanks for your reply. Dalejenkins 14:28, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Katie Hopkins review

Thanks for that. I found this image, this image and this image on the website you reccomended. Would any of these be legal/acceptable for the article? Maybe we could use a screenshot from this YouTube video? Dalejenkins 14:54, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks. What about a screenshot from this YouTube video? Dalejenkins 15:03, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Socks

I think that the same vandal who vandalised yours and my user pages has a series of anon socks, which is obvious because various different IPs keep editing that one guys talk page. I call him "The Hidden Messages Vandal" or "Just Leave it Vandal" because almost all of his edits are accompanied by a hidden message that usually begins with "Just leave it" They are:

  1. special:contributions/86.143.152.201
  2. special:contributions/81.159.184.216
  3. special:contributions/86.136.185.188
  4. special:contributions/86.143.87.21
  5. special:contributions/81.159.185.153

I'll give it a week or so and then consider reporting them as socks if they keep adding junk/messing up pages. -- Scorpion0422 19:37, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

I have created a page so I can keep track of this guy. Thankfully he isn't too smart because it is always obvious when it is him. -- Scorpion0422 17:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Reply

I'm not sure if Billy West belongs on the Troy page as there is a very small connection, but if it's free, it doesn't matter. -- Scorpion0422 19:49, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Peer review

I have peer reviewed Troy McClure, on your request.

If you wish to reply, Please do so on my talk page, as I will not check this page again.

Hidden Message Vandal

He now has a total of 10 known IP socks, so I was wondering if we should report him. However, I am not sure where we should do it as many of his edits are easily revertable and he has made a couple legitimate edits. Perhaps we should report him at the sock reporting place, although usually that place also involves registered users. -- Scorpion0422 16:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Responding to Gran's message on my talk page: Tell me about it. And the abuse report doesn't appear to have done any good. I'm considering just contacting BT myself, telling them what's been going on, providing a list of dates and IP addresses, and warning them of the blocks that have occurred. Don't know if it'll do any good, other than just making them aware of the situation. -FeralDruid 20:14, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

David Tennant

Hi. You reverted me here with the edit summary "and its redundant because?"

I thought I would explain my edit to you. The flag icon is redundant because it carries no encyclopedic information beyond what the already present Scotland does. Flags are (I believe) deprecated for use in an info box like this to indicate place of birth. There are a number of reasons for this. The first is that using a flag like this merely to decorate an infobox actually reduces the utility of the encyclopedia as it oversimplifies the nationality of the subject. David Tennant was born in Bathgate in Scotland, and that is fine and proper to report. By adding the Scottish flag we may be seen by many readers as imbuing him with Scottish nationality. We cannot do that. In real life Tennant may be a passionate unionist or a believer in European unification.

Another reason I dislike this sort of use of flags is the seeming dumbing-down effect they have. Our readers can read, and they will have no trouble understanding Scotland; displaying Scotland Scotland is not required. See WP:FLAG for more on this subject. Please let me know if you have any more questions on this. --John 19:17, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I don't think either of the points you made carries much weight; if you dislike the policy of not using flags to show birthplaces in infoboxes, you should debate the policy. If there are other articles with problems, they need to be amended, rather than this one reflecting their faults. If you can come up with a reason framed in policy and utility why we should keep the flag then I won't delete it again. Otherwise I will. --John 23:08, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your further reply. I'll take it out then, not on policy grounds (for our policies can change and be changed, and there is also WP:IAR), but because I think a flag icon oversimplifies the national identity and causes needless division and dissonance to reader and editor alike. You are right to say it is a minor issue though; a stylistic issue one might say. Best wishes, --John 06:08, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
