References CHEN Qigang

Hi Jim, I just cancelled a subject which was empty of content: the fact is there was nothing under "References" for CHEN Qigang. What's the value to keep it? I'm glad that you gave green light for my editing. Will continue the updates in the coming days. But frankly speaking, I'm not familiar with your reduction requirement. Will appreciate if you could give me some guidance or an example to get inspirations. Best regards, GL — Preceding unsigned comment added by LLFCN (talkcontribs) 10:06, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Error on YOUR part

I corrected the decorations because previous authors had placed multiple award stars in incorrect order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.167.113.116 (talk) 22:56, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

I've also corrected the placment and order of repeat service star awards.

I AM A U S NAVY VETERAN. WHOEVER PLACED THOSE AWARDS FOR MCPON GIORDANO DID SO INCORRECTLY. YOUR REVERSION FROM CORRECT ORDER AND PLACEMENT WAS JUST AS MUCH IN ERROR AS THE ORIGINAL POSTER. UNLESS YOU ARE A VETERAN, DO NOT CHANGE THE ORDER. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaptSquid (talkcontribs) 23:11, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

@CaptSquid: Actually, I am an Air Force veteran. However, I have no idea what the correct order is, nor do I care what the correct order is. In fact, I have no interest at all in boob candy. So, I am apparently qualified to set the order?
If you note the edit summary, I didn't undo the edit because it was "wrong". I undid it because the editor didn't bother to explain their actions with an wp:edit summary. Did you happen to note the Unexplained removal of content? Ever read the rules and procedures of Wikipedia, or are you just doing it Navy style?
Interesting that Hyman G. Rickover does not have images of his ribbons or awards. George Marshall has smaller award images. I see that John M. Richardson's medals are 80 pixels while William F. Moran's medals are 106 pixels. Since they have the same rank, shouldn't their medals be the same size? And since Steven S. Giordano is a lowly petty officer, shouldn't his medals be smaller then the admirals? Interesting that someone I nor many have never heard of have about the same number of medals as Rickover and Marshall?
BTW: is there something with your cap-key, or does the Navy always type in ALL-CAPS, aka "SHOUTING"?

Last Exit on Brooklyn change

It seems you have removed an addition to the Last Exit on Brooklyn site where I included the Espresso Float. As the manager of the Last Exit at the time it was moved and a long term patron I did not and do not think I need to cite myself as the source.

I have noticed significant changes to the page over time and the wholesale removal of information. If you were to look at the oldest pages (which I could not find in the "View History" section you will see my name, David Johnson, as the manager during the move.

My question to you, however, is - What gives? What makes you the arbitor of what is added to this page? Tell me what you know of the place? How do you verify the source information that others have provided? Is wikipedia no longer the open sourced place for information?

I am deeply offended that a place where I lived for over 26 years and where I worked for over 8 of them is no longer available to me for editing. I noticed that many of my past edits were removed.

We shall see how fast you respond to this as you had removed my post within about 1 minute. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.21.149.161 (talk) 07:38, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Edit Warring

How long do I have to wait before a consensus is considered reached? The guy with a problem with the edit stopped contributing to the talk discussion.

Also, you wrote that, "The content was originally not there, so it needs to be left out until wp:consensus is reached. See wp:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle" however I would like to point out that the content was indeed there since February of this year, until it was removed by a vandal a few weeks ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2601:58C:C400:9DE0:ADEA:A945:784C:2D7D

Thus, all I tried to do was restore the removed content but the other guy keeps reverting it, without giving any reasons at all.

More updates for List of Cute High Earth Defense Club Love! episodes

Hey Jim I trying updating Season 2 episode list but for some reason the previews will not show. Can you update the episode list page again thanks.

Newest episodes for that page are:

Episode 08 - Love is Like the Snow Original Air Date = September 1, 2016 Episode 09 - The Chemical Substance of Love Episode 10 - September 15, 2016 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pastellecandy10 (talkcontribs) 12:58, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Pastellecandy10: The unfilled episodes are "commented out" with the use of "<!--" as the start of the commenting out, and "-->" (I added nowiki stuff so it would show here). To add a new episode, move the comment start <!-- down to the next unused episode block. Make sure that the table is closed with the |} and you should be set to update. Please use the "Show preview" button to check that the edit works. If you mess up the table format, you may see some of the stuff normally below the table included inside the table. If you can't figure it out, use your browser's go back button once or twice to restart. See help:table for more info. Cheers Jim1138 (talk)

Introducing a new hypothesis (speculation)

Hello Jim,

I understand why you reverted my one paragraph added to the "Chin" article. I agree that in the current state, it was a speculation without a peer-reviewed citation, as I have recently submitted a paper to journal and it might take a few years to have it published (or not).

My question is that how I can open up a discussion, speculation, or new hypothesis. What is the best way to deal with new ideas that the author likes to introduce to the wiki community on a debatable and open topic?

Tiny Furniture

Hi Jim1138. The edits I made to Tiny Furniture were intentional, though I got carried away with snooping around the version history and probably borked something up real badly without realizing it. I will make the edits again and then leave the article alone. Feel free to edit any further mistakes you see after that. Hi Jim,

You recently reverted my use of the word deplorable. Though I may have gone overboard, I feel like the current events surrounding the word warrants a fair and balanced mention. If you would be so kind as to include the recent use of the word, that'd be great (as I obviously have too strong of a bias)

@Jim1138: You reverted an edit in which I removed content on the grounds that I didn't explain why. This was my message: "removed a bunch of words that said nothing"

I posted another, more comprehensive edit. I removed or re-order a bunch of content from a well meaning non-native english speaker. It wasn't well written and it didn't say anything important. Hopefully you'll agree that my most recent edit has improved the article.

.. Actually, it's saying I need to merge. I disagree and would like to just push my changes. I do think it's an improvement. It's better written (and cited), and I've moved all examples to the "examples" section.

Thanks for the message. I agree and restored your edit. Thank again! Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:25, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
@Jim1138: I had an edit summary, but even if I didn't.. could you explain to me why "no edit summary" is grounds to revert a change? Is it vandalism in the vast majority of cases? That doesn't seem like assuming good faith to me. From my perspective, you just created unnecessary work for me. I'm mildly annoyed, TBH. I was making further changes (something I feel like people do often - I have nothing to back that up), and I ran into problems because of the conflict. The changes I made were obviously not vandalism, and that first edit was an improvement as well.
The original text really.. well, it sucked. It wasn't good. I feel like you were jumping on me to enforce some rule I never heard of, when the facts made it obvious that I was helping. From other messages, it seems this is kind of a pattern for you. It's awesome that you're quick to respond. I admire that, but maybe you should slow down a little.. It seems like you're just auto-reverting stuff, and it's not always a good thing. 66.68.17.213 (talk) 08:35, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict)It's not my place to jump on people for a minor misunderstanding. You did nothing wrong. I just misunderstood your edit. I apologize for that. If you had left an edit summary to the effect that you were copy-editing, or simplifying, I would have looked at the edit differently and probably not reverted. The words you removed did say it in an overly complex manner, but "Removed a bunch of words that didn't say anything" appeared to not be true. It is generally permissible to undo an edit with a blank or unclear edit summary if the reason behind the edit is not easily understood. While policy generally recommends a discussion on the matter, there is so much vandalism and so people monitoring, it's generally overlooked. It would be appreciated if you would leave clearer edit summaries. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 08:57, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I was "being clever" with my summary. You're right about that. I'll stop that. I appreciate your efforts here. We're all trying to make it better. Thanks for being polite and reasonable. 66.68.17.213 (talk) 08:59, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

David Baucom

Hello Jim1138. The page should be based on facts only, so that's why I used the factually correct official Navy biography as the sole reference for the summary. For example, this person did not receive degrees from either Darden or from UNC, rather he attended executive education programs at those institutions. According to the Navy biography, his degrees are from Auburn (BS) Naval Postgraduate School (Masters) and the National Defense University (Masters). Also, this person is assigned to the Office of Naval Operations according to the official Navy biography. Further, we should rely upon the Navy biography for facts rather than any press reporting. Let's use fact-based editing. Thanks! Cricket1005 Cricket1005 (talk) 18:48, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Replying on editor's talk page. Jim1138 (talk) 18:51, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

David Baucom

Strongly agree we don't whitewash, but we need to keep pages accurate and fact-based. For example, the official Navy biography says David Baucom was a Director at his last command, he was "assigned" to the Office of The Chief of Naval Operations - He was not "relieved from his command" because he was not in command... He was one of the Directors at his command and he was sent to a new assignment. Let's use fact-based editing... Press reports are not fact-based, but official Navy publications are the official record. Cricket1005 (talk) 19:12, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I intentionally made edits to the Baraka wiki page.

It did not seem to present a neutral viewpoint and was very biased, so I made a few edits. I also updated the wiki with more of his accomplishments. I noted that in the comments of my updates.

I do think a fairer reading of his accomplishments and work put in context would improve the page greatly.

Seven Countries Study

Hi there: On the Seven Countries Page that I edited. This author, James DiN, has inserted his own work and is trying to take credit for research and work done by Gary Taubes and Nina Teicholz. James DiN is a pharmacist who has written several papers based on seminal work by Taubes and Teicholz. If you would like to confirm the role of Taubes and Teicholz, read this major piece in The Guardian.http://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/apr/07/the-sugar-conspiracy-robert-lustig-john-yudkin

Or, you might google their names and find the hundreds of new stories covering their work. The re-analysis of the 7 countries study was actually begun by an Italian scientist n the 1980s (I will enter her paper when I have time), then Taubes, and then Teicholz. These are the major contributions.

James diN has not done original work and should not be featured, or even mentioned, in this post.

Who are you? Why did you feel free to put my and my siblings marraige information on Wikipedia? What did my father ever do to you? It seems very personal on your part. You have a few facts wrong: my father's entire work history, when he retired not "left" the government and his employment dates. According to my father, Mrs Crosby rented the home across the street during the Saratoga Springs season.

Why the final snark about his claiming to have invented something? My father was in R&D for the army. He and his co-workers invented many things you will never know about since it was all classified.

At minimum, get my personal and my siblings info off the article. Don't use us to prove you know so much about us and our father that you can put our marraige years and spouses.

Lambert Eaton Myastenic Syndrome

Hi Jim

Thanks for the message re the amendment of the page on LEMS.

In relation to the amendment I made - I didn't notice any citation on the statement that LEMS usually abates after direct cancer treatment, although I know many articles mention it.

I have conversed with many neurologists and scientists who hold the opinion that the body would likely continue to stay in the pattern and continue to produce the antibodies even after successful cancer treatment. Or - that the LEMS may continue in a sort of 'mine sweeper' effect - continuing to look for problems.

I have LEMS and I run the largest online support group in the world with over 400 members. I had cancer 10 years ago which was successfully treatment and I still have LEMS. And, among the members in our group who have had cancer with their LEMS - there is not one among them whose LEMS has gone into remission after the cancer treatment/cure. This over a period of around 9 years within the group.

I suppose this could not be considered as a 'citation' but the data on the LEMS/Cancer remission is - in my own experience - and that of many others - inaccurate. And I worry that it could give people false hope. I did use the word 'may' in the interests of not making a definitive statement.

Because it is a mistake, which would mislead other readers!!!

2、the Higer Bus Co. Ltd and King Long United Automotive Industry Co., Ltd is different and seperated companies.

I do not share their view and there is no evidence that what they say is true but is their opinion and is stated on our wiki page as a way of damaging our company reputation. That is my reason for removal as I do not think it is fair or justified comment. We paid Linaro more than $100,000 and in return got very little. However I do not think that this information belongs on Linaro's wiki page do you? Please allow me to remove those comments.

Regards,

Damien Redfern

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. I appreciate your noice. It is indeed common knowledge in Caersws but I'll ask my mum if she has a source. Ta! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.100.44.33 (talk) 00:16, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

If I give my mum's name, does that count? I realize that sounds silly but she is on the historic society for the village, and I imagine (and hope) that would carry some weight. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.100.44.33 (talk) 00:20, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

o'cayz

Dear Jim1138,

I was in the band Fuzzdolly that played O'Cayz in the mid & late 90s many times. The band has been defunct since 1998 and never had an internet presence. It was the pre-internet music days. I suppose the only reliable written source would be newspapers from Madison back then listing the shows or perhaps a review of one. I don't know of any online sources. 69.73.47.33 (talk) 12:18, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Why page is revised again

HI,

I dont know that why you are editing the page. I am editing test to history but suddenly i saw that whole page is revised.

Gallary - removed

Location heading added

Photo uploaded by me showing the areal view along with other destination also removed

there is no data copied from any web. web links also shown so what is the problem that you revised the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amritpal Singh Kotli (talkcontribs) 06:45, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

missing data

Tag you are taking about was already removed one month before but I do not know why you added again. I read from wikipedia that these types of tag can be removed after 2 months.
I will not remove this tag but i want to know that why page is modified again and missing data from it. It took long to collect data and upload but its easy to remove so please if possible then shift the page back again which it looks like on 25-Sep — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amritpal Singh Kotli (talkcontribs) 07:02, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

@Amritpal Singh Kotli: Why are you asking me? Look at the wp:page history. A different editor removed it, leaving an wp:edit summary of "removing unsourced content". Perhaps you should read the welcome section on your talk page. It tells you how to properly edit Wikipedia. Please don't post on my talk page again. You are wasting my time. Recent edit was not a test

@Jim1138:

Hello,

I removed the quotations from "desecrated" intentionally. The quotations indicate some sort of sarcasm on the part of the poster which is entirely out of place. Desecration is the right word and it should not be placed in quotation marks.

Thanks and have a great Monday.

I'm not familiar with editing in Wikipedia to be honest

Jimi1138- Honestly, this page is constantly changed to discredit the artist as you can see when you compare my edits to the last edit before my own. This is libel by internet bullies who are vindictive and aggressive in their continue slander. Please advise how I may edit and if possible, because this is a continued issue, how to block others from editing, as they surely will sign in under a different name. Please and thanks, MaryLou913 (talk) 08:31, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

@MaryLou913: Thanks for the note here. The content would appear to be well sourced. I have asked an wp:administrator to review it. The question would seem to be whether the arrest history is wp:due. Please start a new section on talk:PSD (rapper) stating why it is malicious. Include the following to notify the admin and I: {{u|Jim1138}} {{u|Oshwah}}, sign your talk with ~~~~, then save it.
Next, restore your edit to PSD (rapper) and leave an wp:edit summary of "Removed malicious content as [[wp:undue]] - see talk page" (leave off the "nowiki" stuff). The administrator should review it in a day or two. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:44, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. Hi, i am proposing to delete the article. As I'm new to editing on Wiki, i am not not sure how to do this properly. From the content itself, Mr Warren did not seem to make any significant contribution to be worthy of a biography; he is merely doing his job as an editor at the Straits Times. There would be tens of thousands of people in Singapore who would be having their biographies on Wikipedia if we set the standard for mentioning this low. This is the reason I am proposing to delete the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mohann Jasturba (talkcontribs) 12:33, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

@Mohann Jasturba: Use a wp:article for deletion. You can use a wp:prod if you don't think it will be contested. A prod can only be added once to the article, so check the wp:page history first. Edits to Volleyball Jargon

Hi Jim

Not sure why the edits to this page were deleted? My edit is a slang term used by many of my fellow International Officials in Volleyball, as we have a long term coach who has travelled from the USA to Australia for many years to coach youth ladies. Her name is coach Rollins and it is a term of affection used across many clubs.

If I can provide you with any furtehr info please let me know.

@Jim1138:

Dear Jim, Detail about Kotli Saru Khan is mentioned in the link provided for reference. it clearly state the content about population, Panchyat etc. Distance to other location can be verified through google map and it is correct to my belief. As discussed in the month of June, history of village is not documented and due to India, Pakistan seperation, native people migrate to Pakistan. Response on Maryland

I am wondering why my recent edit to Maryland was reverted? I might have forgotten to leave an editorial comment, but I did add a citation from the state's website to back up the claim that was tagged.

I'd like to revert the version to reflect the change I made, but I'll wait for your reply.

@IdealNewst: Besides removing information on with this edit, you removed a huge amount of information: 45,000 characters including numerous sections having nothing to do with your edit summary: deleted statistics concerning # of soldiers sent to war in MD...absolutely no sources to support numbers listed. This included the Baltimore port, Biotechnology, Defense contractors, Transportation, Roads, See also, External links, categories, and other sections. It appears you inadvertently deleted much more than you intended. It appears that someone added a few references on war.
Please leave new talk sections at the bottom of the page. Sign your talk with four tildes "~~~~" Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 02:56, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
I see what you mean! That's odd--I am not sure why so much content was deleted, but I suspect it has something to do with editing on mobile. That was definitely my mistake. But a number of my other edits were reverted that I don't think should have been. Namely, I added citations for information on the Chincoteague pony swim, the Federal court ruling concerning the suspension of habeas corpus, the location of Amish communities in MD, and the first Roman Catholic cathedral. Was there something wrong with these edits? IdealNewst (talk) 17:44, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
@IdealNewst: It's stored in the wp:page history here. I would suggest opening the page in two browser tabs. One the current version, and the second, the version with your citations. From your old version here, you can copy the citations to the current version here. Make sure you don't save the old version!
I just reverted the whole thing. I do wp:Recent changes patrol (RCP) and just undo bad edits. Of which, there are huge numbers. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 00:31, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Antony Flew

Here is what I found on the guidelines page: The guideline in this page discusses the reliability of various types of sources. The policy on sourcing isWikipedia:Verifiability, which requires inline citations for any material challenged or likely to be challenged, and for all quotations. The policy is strictly applied to all material in the mainspace—articles, lists, and sections of articles—without exception, and in particular to biographies of living persons, which states:

Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion.

KSci (talk) 04:33, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

@KSci: Flew died over six years ago and is hardly "recently deceased". So, BLP arguments do not apply. The book you cited has been questioned as to being actually co-authored by Flew as he appeared to be suffering from dementia at the time. I left a link to the talk page archive on this. Discuss this on talk:Antony Flew. Please use an wp:RFC Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 05:00, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

British vs American Spelling

If Wikipedia wants British spelling, why oh why does this usage come up with a red line indicating a spelling error? The general rule for editing articles and books is that either spelling is OK, as long as it is consistent within a single manuscript.

In the case of the Consumer Behaviour page- I just changed all the spelling to US for the sake of consistency and now you tell me that it should have been British all along! (Personally, I prefer British) But, if I change it all back again, what are the chances that someone else will come along and ask for US spellings? Does Wikipedia have a house style? If so, where is it and why is it not more accessible?

There are so many problems with the Consumer Behaviour Page- conceptual problems, errors of fact, errors of interpretation/ overly narrow interpretations, excessive levels of repetitions, lack of references for key terms and concepts, long irrelevant sections, long sections that lack focus, poorly written prose (to the point where it is almost indeciperable in some places), very loose or wordy passages that add no real value, poor organisation of the entire page, poorly selected examples, different spellings and different hyphenation (decision -maker vs decisionmaker (or even decision maker) or psycho-social vs psychosocial).

I am slowly trying to work my way through this page, as I have some expertise in the area, but some of the problems are so fundamental that they are impossible or difficult to rectify. Other passages defy comprehension so that it is impossible to clean them up. To be honest whether to use behaviour vs behavior is probably the least of my concerns at this stage. I am more concerned with the accuracy and usefulness of the content on that page.

BronHiggs (talk) 06:04, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

@BronHiggs: That is your browser's spell checker. If you were in London, your browser would probably underline "behavior" instead of "behaviour" in red. Probably, if you right click on "behaviour", you will get a list of suggestions. There is probably an "add to dictionary" there somewhere. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:57, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
