Hi Jmertel23, I'm trying to learn my way around correct procedure and really welcome guidance in my first attempt. I now see that usernames follow the editor, no matter the article, and that my choice likely helped create an apparent COI on this article. My intention was not promotional, and I'm not being paid for this article. Also I have just changed my username.

There are numerous descriptions on the artist's website where he personally examined his pieces over the years and described his approach to sculpture. This material was used as a starting place in creating the article, and then citing the material was coming next. I collected published references and started adding the citations. I understand that anything that can't be cited needs to be removed. Wording needs to be improved for neutrality, and the opening section needs to be shortened. I would like to continue with the edits that I believe are necessary.

Thank you for your time, Atd24 (talk) 20:27, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

Atd24, I apologize for not responding sooner! Thank you for adding citations; it is important for all information to have associated references. Jmertel23 (talk) 12:13, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

The page is about the place, not about the region nor Buddha. The references are controversial. There exists Giruwari page, which contains partially the same informations. Do we need two separate pages to describe practically the same place?Xx236 (talk) 07:56, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

If it's about the same place, I would say there does not need to be two articles; you could simply merge the information onto one page and redirect one to the other. Jmertel23 (talk) 12:13, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Please don't make cut and paste moves

Please don't make cut and paste moves, as you did with Howard Center, because it loses the page history that is needed for attribution. If you wish to make a move, for which you do not have the tools, you can use WP:RM. I have recovered the page history and fixed the move. Further information can be found at WP:CUTPASTE. Just Chilling (talk) 19:48, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you; I hadn't realized that WP:RM existed. I will be sure to use that in the future if a similar situation arises. I appreciate you letting me know. Jmertel23 (talk) 19:51, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Unconstructive overenthusism

SB George Smeed in the time it took to put on a coffee- you had slapped on a tag, stating the obvious. I would prefer that you read the edit summaries and helped with the clean up. You are technically wrong about shifting the list into prose- it is destined for the infobox. If you are interested in this topic- can I suggest you too go over to commons, and write articles on the notable barges which images and basic information but no articles on en:. I am just glad you pulled this stunt on me and on none of the folk we are nuturing to create their first articles. ClemRutter (talk) 14:54, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

I was trying to help; I apologize if it came off negatively. Certainly not my intention. Jmertel23 (talk) 14:56, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Fine. I'll put the coffee on again and you must come on round. :-) ClemRutter (talk) 15:56, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you - and I'll take better care to look at the edit history to note how recently changes have been made so as to not jump in while other's work may be ongoing. Jmertel23 (talk) 16:02, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Have a great day!!!

A barnstar for you!

The Copyeditor's Barnstar
For quietly and diligently fixing pronouns on Stuartyeates's articles on NZ female academics. GRuban (talk) 12:37, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks GRuban! While I assumed that their intentions were good, I had also felt that the use of gender neutral pronouns was in some ways "hiding" the fact that the subjects were women, which seemed to lessen the great work of adding so many female academics. Glad I could help! Jmertel23 (talk) 12:56, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Point of Rental Software revisions

Hi Jmertel23! You added some template messages about citations, tone/style, and advertisement-like content to this page a while ago. Because those messages were, quite obviously, accurate, I've gone in today (although I forgot to log in when doing so) and added several citations while also removing the most promotional language and changing the tone of several sentences. Since I have a conflict of interest, I don't want to remove the templates myself and was hoping you could review and either remove those templates or let me know what I need to do to get the page to the point where it's meeting Wikipedia standards. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide and for giving me incentive to improve the page (as well as providing an opportunity to seek out how to contact people on Wikipedia AND helping me discover how to disclose my COI issues moving forward). Beaudry83 (talk) 14:46, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jmertel23, thanks for providing me with the additional information regarding the potential COI in writing about the company I work for (Sustainalytics). I really do appreciate the guidance as I am still new to Wikipedia. In line with the information you provided, I tried to clean the page up. Would you be able to look at it and evaluate whether the cleanup was sufficient to warrant the removal of the COI tag and, if necessary, provide further guidance or edits? Thanks so much! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Werner Schoeman (talkcontribs) 08:22, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Response to concerns of undisclosed COI

Hi Jmertel23,

Thank you for your comment on my talk page. To be clear, I did already have a COI notice on my User Page, as you can see it says "COI notice: I work in business development at Twipe Digital Publishing." When I created my profile over 1 year ago I did not find the template that you have provided. Do you think it is better if I use the format you provided?

Thank you!

MKTwipe (talk) 18:28, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

I would suggest using the template I described; you also need to disclose your COI on the Twipe talk page. Thanks, Jmertel23 (talk) 18:30, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Great, thanks! I've added the template you suggested to my own Talk Page and the Connected Contributor template to the Twipe talk page. Is there anything else you believe should be done before the warning messages about undisclosed COI can be removed from the page? Thank you :) MKTwipe (talk) 18:41, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that (and so quickly!) - I'll remove the templates now. Please do be sure to note that users with a COI are strongly discouraged from editing articles directly, and are instead encouraged to use "request edit" template on the talk page - see WP:COIEDIT for details. Thanks so much! Jmertel23 (talk) 18:49, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Response to your actions in my page Eleonora Gabrielian

Hello, As a new user, could you please explain the reasons for the COI template in my page? I did my absolute best to stay neutral and i don't see any biased information which could cause this. Indeed, i am related to the subject (she is my grandmother). I would much appreciate any help fixing problems (if there are any).

Also, you left a template regarding my use of external links as well, could you elaborate please?

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabrielian (talkcontribs) 12:55, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out! First off, your grandmother sounds like an amazing woman!
  • In regards to the COI - please add the {{connected contributor}} template to the talk page of the article, and the {{UserboxCOI}} template on your userpage. Please also read the conflict of interest policy in detail; Wikipedia strongly discourages editors from directly editing pages with which they have a COI. I'll read through the article in more detail to double check for any non-neutral language that you may have inadvertently entered (when an editor has an external relationship with the subject of an article, it's really easy to let some bias slip it).
  • In terms of the external links - as per the external links policy, there should not be links to other websites embedded in the body of an article. We'll need to go through and either turn them into citations (if appropriate) or simply remove them. I would be more than happy to help with this.
- Jmertel23 (talk) 13:45, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Indeed, she is an extraordinary person with a lot of accomplishments behind her (which are extremely hard to document, since it was all done during the soviet era). I already took care of the external links (i was so off...) and changed some to citations and removed others where needed, i saw you already took off the EL, thank you for that. I added the connected contributor template (and added another contributor who has helped me, my aunt to be specific) and the UserboxCOI (i'll get my aunt to add the userboxCOI template as well). I will look into the COI policy more in depth, it's just that the amount of policies and conventions are overwhelming for a new user so it will take me time to go through it thoroughly :) Thank you so much for your time and help, it's very much appreciated! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabrielian (talkcontribs) 20:38, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
