using my own blog as reference or link

I would appreciate if you could assist me in understanding the rules Wikipedia uses. I am an expert in anaerobic infections and other infectious diseases. I have blog sites on Anaerobic infections and sinusitis that contain important information. Can I use my blogs as reference or additional links? Since these blogs are mine and contain only my writings there is no copyright issue involved. Concussion

Fair enough. We can wait for reviews. The test itself has been well reviewed, but that application is novel. Given that it is inexpensive, non-invasive, requires next to no equipment or training and has large potential impact but zero profit opportunities, I'm pretty sure it will be ignored for a long time before any larger studies are done. User has only made a couple of edits. How do you suggest we diambig this? Agree completely about the invitation to edit. The people I work with all use Wikipedia but do not realize that they can contridute. If more people realize that they can help they may and we will end up with a much better encyclopedia. True, but he's been active in policy debates, like the one about using WikiWix for archiving. So, technically he gets the name, since it's his actual name. That said, they're not 'exact' duplicates, so there's no absolute conflict or need to change anything. But you could do some easy things short of abandoning your nickname to help disambiguate. You could:

  • Change it to Doctor James, JamesMD, etc. whatever you prefer.
  • Add a hatnote directing users to Doc James like an article might
  • Make your nickname Doc James (jmh649) or Doc James (JMH)

You could also ask for some other opinions at WP:UN. Here's the relevant policy section: Wikipedia:Username_policy#Similar_usernames. Apparently there's a {this user} template. Or you could ask User:Docjames if he has any ideas.

Any of the above. Yes, people who think we've done a good job communicating how this thing works don't realize how people think Wikipedia works. They think someone just put it here! Then again, I feel reluctant asking anyone to edit until we have a proper WYSIWYG editor. Otherwise, there's something cruel about wishing that learning curve one any newcomer. CT picture

The caption below the picture of the CT scan says that it is a right sided pnumonia seen on the left side of the image. I don't know exactly how this works...

I was trying to figure out how to leave a message on the Pneumonia page, so I decided to message you. I was wondering if in the complications section, pericarditis should be mentioned as well. I had pneumonia and that was one of my resulting complications (I do have Marfan Syndrome) so I came on here to learn something about it and didn't find anything connecting the two. groups of students in need of mentors

Hey James. One of the classes working with the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, Jonathan Obar's Media and Telecommunication Policy, is working in small groups and would like us to assign a mentor to each group (rather than having students request the mentors they'd like, as other classes are doing).

I invite you to sign on as the mentor for one or more groups, especially if any of the topics catch your interest. To sign up, go to the course page and add yourself as "Mentor: you" in the section for that group. They students and/or professor or campus ambassadors should be cleaning things up soon to list all the usernames for each group and add a few more groups. Once you know who the students are in the group, you can leave them each a quick introduction to let them know you'll be mentoring their group.

There is numerous websites talking of the noise effects, having it constant, causing sleep depravation, headaches, and nausea, even eventual long term effects with hearing. There are also many claims of the flicker effect pertaining to headaches, even seizures in extreme cases (which I do have a family member that suffers from epilepsy). Gout PC

Please reconsider use of Pending Changes on Gout, given the ongoing RfC on use of PC, and the notice regarding its use, and...well, the fact that there is no consensus for using it, beyond a trial period of 2 months which was from June 2010. This was addressed in the violation for which I was punished, publicly apologized and took responsibility one week ago. If you would like to secure a second round of punishment for the same violation, please notify me you are shopping admin pages and lobbying for that so I can make some attempt at defending myself. I'm here to collaboratively edit Wikipedia. I just don't have desire to be constantly dredging through the bowels of Wikipedia to find out what accusations you're levying against me at any particular hour of the day in hope eventually one will stick and you can get me booted. I appreciate you have a privileged status and can do this without repercussions, but I do not and I have to respect this one Wikipedia account I have and try to maintain it in good standing. Thank you for choosing to treat me with civility and maturity and for choosing to respect WP:DRAMA, WP:CIVILITY and AGF in your future edits. Since you face no possibility of repercussions for this pattern of activity all I can do is beg you to please leave me alone. I have no other options. PLEASE leave me alone. I'm at my wits end. I just don't know what else I can possibly do. I committed one transgression in 6 months on Wikipedia - last week - and still, today, you're lobbying for the already completed punishment to be reinstated and enhanced. I guess I know what Frankenstein felt like when the villagers were coming through the castle with pitchforks and torches now. Again, I had an unblemished edit history for 6 months; I made a Legal Threat which I owned up to and deleted 4 minutes after posting it (without being asked and before the person even saw it). Now I have to face two Sock inquiries within 4 days, constant lobbying for blocking on various admin pages, etc. Anyway, I forfeit - you've won, Bugs. I'm going to finish my Drakkar Noir entry this week and then quit Wikipedia. My health just isn't good enough to face this kind of concentrated assault. I'm not leaving of choice. I'm leaving because one user has been allowed to run me off. He has been allowed to violate every possible level of WP:CIVILITY without penalty. In the next 30 seconds the issue could be concluded and I could return to editing in peace and anonymity like I did for many months if he could choose to exercise self-control and choose to take interest in something other than me.
I'm not certain repeated complaints being filed against me by the same user for the same transgression, an intense one-man lobbying effort to get me blocked, is business as usual on Wikipedia. Do you believe it is? Do you believe I am being treated in a fair and civil manner? I'm quite certain if I lobbied (currently at) 7 admins with an average of 3 complaints each against Bugs in a space of 3 days I wouldn't still be here typing this. I believe if I violated ANI closure orders I wouldn't be here typing this. I believe if I called people "ignorant" I wouldn't be here typing this. Do you think otherwise? Gulf War Veterans Illnesses Wiki

Greetings,

My name is Jeffrey S. Ford, I served as a Combat Engineer in the 82nd Airborne Division during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I participated in the destruction of the ammunition supply depot at Khamisyah following the war. In October 1996 I testified before the Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans Health Issues and in December of that year appointed Executive Director of the National Gulf War Veterans Resource Center, Inc., Washington, D.C.

In the following months I testified before the House of Representatives, Veterans Committee, Subcommittee on Health and Benefits on three occasions, continued to advise the Presidential Advisory Committee as well as several Senatorial and Congressional Committees and staff offices. I was at that time the nations leading civilian expert on Gulf War hazards, exposures and possible health outcomes. Worked for the Kansas Veterans Health Commission as an advisor designing and implementing the studies there that subsequently were published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and has proven to be one of the paramount studies to date on the health of Persian Gulf War Veterans, and their families.

I could probably ramble for some time on all the work I have done on this issue but to get to the point, I would like to work on the article here concerning Gulf War Syndrome, get it cleaned up, and make it more comprehensive, objective and informative. My name is Michael Gerlach and I am a student at Logan College of Chiropractic. I have been paying attention to the content of the page that reflects on my profession and I have found that there are continuous statements that do not represent the current mindset of the Chiropractic profession. I guess I'll start small for now before editing more. Anyway, for some time now I have been doing 'systematic research' on available research that provides information about the clinical and cost effectiveness of chiropractic and I would like to share my findings. I would like to add this to the page: In 2010 a research article in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics Liliedahl et al 641 Volume 33, Number 9"Paid costs for episodes of care initiated with a DC were almost 40% less than episodes initiated with an MD. Even after risk adjusting each patient’s costs, It was found that episodes of care initiated with a DC were 20% less expensive than episodes initiated with an MD."

Can you clarify?

Can you at least please clarify if this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Viriditas#Felix - is my current sock trial? I don't know what is going on. I don't know how the "offline" trials for socking work. Will my input be taken into consideration? Can you please read what Bugs is writing and ask why he is writing these things about me when Diffs clearly show they are incorrect? These are not innocent mistakes that are being made. They are intentional obscurfactions of the easily referenced facts. Please. I'm not asking for much. I know you don't care but this is my entire ability to participate in Wikipedia that is being decided and I don't know the timeline at which the private trial will take place or even if my evidence will be considered. Why do I deserve this? Why can he do this with impunity? Why am I allowed no recourse? How can 19 complaints be filed against me in 4 days by one user and I'm given no avenue of retreat or arrest to cause it to cease? I am being run up on charges that are a week old and which have already been adjudicated and dismissed. For how long does this go on? Another month? Another year? Sock hearings happening away from ANI in userspace? Nearly 20 complaints by one user in 4 days? I don't care what anyone claims, this is not the way the average Wikipedian behaves, this is not the way the average Wikipedian deserves to be treated. Maybe someday someone will do me the courtesy of explaining why he is allowed to get away with this. "No reasonable person...?" I have a crandfacial team that edits this page monthly for the last five years. We dont need any input from a wanna be know it all ER tech. Nonmedical benzodiazepine drug use

Hi Doc, can you move this page back to either benzodiazepine drug misuse or else benzodiazepine drug abuse? Benzodiazepine drug abuse or benzodiazepine abuse is the most common name. I can't move it back as page already exists. :) No discussion occured before this page move occured, so there was no concensus for the move. Literaturegeek | T@1k? 22:47, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

(Throwing in my unsolicited $0.02 U.S.) -> When I taught the subject at the undergrad level, I told my students generally that drug MISUSE was "defined" as someone taking a drug without medical supervision/direction, or under medical supervision/direction BUT the drug being used improperly (i.e. as to dose, frequency, route, etc.)
Drug ABUSE, on the other hand, was "defined" as continuing to use a drug despite repeated overt adverse consequences for the user.
Therefore, (I guess) I'm advocating there be an article on BOTH "misuse" AND "abuse", although exactly where one draws the line is a matter of some subjectivity.

The two terms are sufficiently similar that they should be dealt with in one article. We could just have a section in the beginning that outlines these subtle differences. Not sure which title would be best. Benzodiazepine misuse appears to be the broader term and would cover abuse. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 06:39, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm not planning on changing what you put at this point, since you phrased it in a way that I can't dispute ('may be'), but I'm frankly skeptical about the limited claim made in 'Complementary and alternative medicine for prevention and treatment of the common cold.'

I looked at the full text of the study, and what it boils down to is they said 'we took the Cochrane study and took out the data for the arctic people and found out that they did receive a statistically significant benefit in prevention from Vit C'. That's true as far as it goes, but the Cochrane meta-analysis wasn't conducted on that question, and I'm suspicious that they simply pulled all arctic data from the Cochrane rather than only pulling studies which were conducted with the intention of studying Vit C in those environs.

I'm only mentioning this to you since you the way you phrased your comments in the edit made it sound like you were actually relying on the data for your own benefit, and I just wanted to drop a note letting you know why I initially completely removed the comment rather than making an edit similar to the one that you did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Qalnor (talk • contribs) 17:29, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Marking articles students are working on

Howdy, Online Ambassador!

This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students (in particular, any ones you are mentoring, but others who don't have mentors as well) and do these things:

  1. Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
  2. If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
  3. Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.

And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.
