Dear Sir, I got a question to ask, if a page wrote the wrong title and involve people surname. Can I request to delete it and own self create a new one with that spelling? Because that page really didn't write properly and involve many of that spelling people surname. Please look for this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kho. I hope my message won't disturb you and involve your professional review. K.b.cheng (talk) 11:48, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hello, I saw that there is possibility to add pending change review to articles. Is there a procedure in place where to request an article to be protected like this? There has been quite an amount of vandalism coming from IPs to Tarkan (singer), please see its history and talk page for details. I think this pending changes review thing would be a solution, as normal page protection did not solve it. The page was protected from IP editing for two weeks but the vandalism returned after the protection expired. Is there a way to include article in this procedure? Thanks a lot for guidance. 小龙 (Timish) # xiǎolóng de xìnxiāng 13:39, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What do I do if I see an editor whose actions incline toward Owning the article?[edit]

Dear King of Hearts,

As the topic says, I would like to ask for your help. I am sorry that what I am going to say will be long, so bear with me. But I would like to seek your advice first, so I'd rather not name the person, but I need to describe the situation.

I've been trying to work with an editor who seems to exert more control on the article than I can comfortably work with. We have our disagreements, of course, but it seems to me like a disagreement with him feels more stressful than it should have been compared to others. When we have dispute on contents, he often goes ahead and change things without waiting for the disagreement to settle. I've checked his changes, and I found that his actions were acceptable for the most part, but I dislike the fact that his actions seemed to force me to accept it. While we discuss things, he say things such as "If I see double references I will replace them if I think they are not needed, if other citations already exist." Without the context, there seems to be nothing wrong with it, but if you read the argument, you will find that this sentence came up in the middle of the discussion while we hadn’t settled yet whether we should keep or remove them. It felt to me like an announcement saying "I’m going to do what I want, and you will not stop me from doing it." I found this uncivil. If things had settled properly, I would have agreed with him anyway. But the point is that he should’ve settled this first instead of insisting on it, which made working with him less pleasant than it should have been. While we were discussing whether a site was reliable, I got something like: "The site is reliable, as no-one has said that it isn't, so there are no issues there at all." When this appeared in the middle of the discussion, when I was questioning it, I found that this sounded more like imposing the view on me instead of convincing me.

I also found his reverting style aggressive, and he does not provide sufficient reasons or to care to make it easier to understand or spare people's feelings. I first had trouble with him when I first joined the editors working in an article. I got edit conflicts while editing a busy article, and I thought they were just edit conflicts, nothing more. I tried to stamp my edit until I succeed. It turned out that I got reverted, and one of those edit conflicts was the result of his instant revert, and I had just unintentionally violated 1RR. The reason he put in his box was, "Please see long discussion on the talk page over this paragraph," which, honestly, doesn't help much in finding it, as there are several long discussions. When I asked him to direct me to the discussion, he said something along the line "I am sure you can work out which one on your own." He could’ve just saved us time and said which one. The guideline even encourages the reverter to explain before reverting, but I had to find the explanation all myself, and he did not care to help, and I found that very unpleasant.

His revert also took some other justified changes with it. There were parts that he even agreed to keep later anyway. When I reminded him to revert only when necessary, he got evidently angry and call me arrogant for trying to stamp my edit after his revert. So I explained that it was unintentional. Not assuming good faith was somewhat stomachable, as it was hard to do sometimes. But reverting only when necessary was not that hard, and calling me arrogant was something I found unacceptable.

I also found that he clings to the current wording of a certain paragraph more than he should have. At times, it almost seems like he over-extends/imposes the consensus' control on any coming change. An IP user came in and made a reasonable change to it, but that got reverted almost instantly; I personally think it improved the article. He had a hand in that first paragraph, so it was understandable to prefer it, but this is getting a bit too far. Revert tends to look aggressive, but the reason he gave to the IP was "See talk page" which did not help new users like the IP to find it.

The article has just been locked barely a week ago by you, and he was the reverter who reverted several good faith but incorrect edits by multiple users. Again, the reason he gave to the IPs was "See talk page" or something similar. I really think that we could’ve averted the most recent article lock by his simply being nicer to users whose edits were reverted. The way I see it, those IPs who kept changing it back were the ones felt aggressed by his reverts. An old-time editor also left the article due to the most recent lock.

I tried to use a mediator/third opinion to solve these problems with him and failed. I must admit that I worded it incorrectly and called the third person mediator. He was meant to (unofficially) mediate a content dispute, and I could easily agreed to a compromise. I also took the liberty to address my above concerns to this editor in question as well; however, the editor in question told me to read WP:Mediation, and adamantly refused to address anything that didn't involve content, despite the third person's attempt to convince him that the (unofficial) mediation didn't need to be about it, and that he and I could have reached a point of mutual respect. The editor in question instead called my attempt squalid, laughable, and self-serving, and said that he would not any question in this regard. And his action on reverting continues. He even described some revert as reverting an idiotic edit.

Now I'm out of options. I want to work on this article, and I've done a lot to it, but it's very uncomfortable to continue. Request community input on conduct seems excessive, and most users in grievance against him are usually IPs without much understanding of WP's process. What steps should I take to solve this problem, if he refuse to listen?

I am willing to provide further details concerning issue per your quest. Anthonydraco (talk) 17:00, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The last time I got into a dispute with a very stubborn editor, I just walked away from the topic for a few months (I'm not a very confrontational person). You could try that and see where it gets you. Alternatively, given the extent of the behavior, requesting community input through a WP:RFC/U or something isn't entirely out of line. -- King of ♠ 23:16, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll take a break first and see where it gets me. If the behavior continues, then I guess it's time for RfC/U.Anthonydraco (talk) 12:06, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Jake Morgan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Jill Kelley[edit]

I know it's a little late, but I am puzzled by your decision to overturn the deletion of Jill Kelley. In your closing statement, you cite that the "overturn" arguments outweighed the "endorse" arguments because the former addressed the AFD while the latter addressed the article's merits. But I think that's inherently an unfair comparison. The "endorse" arguments that cite BLP1E are essentially saying "the closure was correct because the closer followed policy". There's no way to endorse the closure without also endorsing the closing admin's reasoning. Powers T 16:26, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's really a judgment call. I closed it as "overturn" because the !vote count slightly favored overturning and the arguments to overturn were slightly stronger. It's these little things that sway it one way or another. -- King of ♠ 03:37, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I hope you will be joining us tomorrow afternoon at the Edit-a-thon at Tech Liminal, in Oakland. We'll be working on articles relating to women and democracy (and anything else that interests you). It's sponsored by the California League of Women Voters, Tech Liminal, and me.

If this is the first you are hearing of this event, my apologies for the last-minute notice! I announced it on the San Francisco email list and by a banner on your watchlist, but I neglected to look at the San Francisco invitation list until this evening. If you can't make it this time, I hope to see you at a similar event soon! -Pete (talk) 04:47, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey just curious why you chose to close this with a pure redirect and not a merge? Mike (talk) 17:33, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because no one was advocating merging. The consensus was to delete, but typically a redirect is made in such cases if a suitable target exists. However, feel free to merge any sourced content over. -- King of ♠ 20:25, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring Daniel Hernandez[edit]

Dear King of Hearts,

I have researched Daniel Hernandez page prior to it being taken down, and had intended the very day you took it down to add what ever else about him I could to keep his page up. I wanted to copy the page and confirm the references of all material again that was written about him. I know a great deal about him already, and he is a very intelligent and resourceful entrepreneur who has accomplished a great deal, and deserves to be on Wikipedia.

Ironically, I was researching more about him the day you removed him, and was disappointed because I was going to the site to confirm his experiences and to place more information up that I came across (Polish magazine). Moreover, I have witnessed his being awardeded, inadvertently, and I have seen his career blossom since he was 21 years old. Having actually lived in his community, I am an eye witness to his achievements, involvements, etc. and I know what has been posted on Wikipedia about him to be true, and should be restored, as well as, his page needs to be updated with his latest achievements that I would like to post.

Thank you, mpenndesigns — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mpenndesigns (talkcontribs) 11:36, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the content of Wikipedia cannot be based on firsthand accounts of witnesses, as this is considered original research. It must be based on reliable sources per our notability guideline. -- King of ♠ 20:29, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think King of Hearts has taken down Daniel Hernandez page without fully checking out his background and the references. Daniel Hernandez (Fashion Designer) has received awards from Paris, and in America. He has accomplished a great deal in Boston, Massachusetts and has been in many magazines both locally and Nationally, as well as, Internationally. Daniel Hernandez own site lists his references and I have checked his achievements listed. Unfortunately, the day that I was going to refute his site being suggested to take down I went there too late to it. I wanted to add to his site another supporting write up on him. I think his site must be returned. His site has been there for 4 years undisturbed or disputed. I will enter all the things that I have researched about Daniel Hernandez and reference each, cover of magazine, locally, then National and there after International. Even this list is not complete, however, it is a great career which should validate his being on Wikipedia. He locally has created many products (around 100) and has an illustrious career worthy of being further watched. He is well known hairstylist, entrepreneur and in Fashion.MpenndesignsTruthTank 15:16, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
