Hi, Lady Aleena, Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello, bonjour, salut, privyet, konichiwa, shalom, hola, salve, sala'am, bonjourno, and hi! I'm Sputnik. I noticed that you were new and/or have yet to receive any messages so I just thought I'd pop in to say "hello". We're glad to have you in our community! I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it's so big but we won't bite so Be Bold and get what you know down in microchips! If you do make a mistake, that's fine, we'll assume good faith and just correct you: it'll take a few seconds maximum! I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful. If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you. Here are a few links to get you started:
And remember:
 • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
 • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.
 • P.S. I'm happy to help new users. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)

Happy Wiki-ing!

Please place all of your Dark Throne questions and comments here...

I used to play, but don't really anymore. Thanks for your message, though. Ral315 (talk) 17:15, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: You editted Dark Throne, do you play?[edit]

I have a friend who used to play Dark Throne, so I had heard about it. But I never really played it, I guess. Thanks for the kind message, though! -- Daverocks (talk) 05:56, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, his name is User:Adam1213. You might have already heard about him from his 3 failed RfAs or his contribs all over the place. His editing style is quite different to mine. Anyway, I don't think he played Dark Throne for very long. -- Daverocks (talk) 08:45, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in that category because I am a PRIVATE pilot. However, this is not my profession, I am a software engineer if you ask about that one. I agree that "...by stuff" is a bit vague, but what you suggest instead is plain wrong in this case. Please consider something better or revert. TIA, --BACbKA 08:51, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it into a subcat of "...interested in aviation" and removed the "...profession" affiliation (the "by profession" cat stays that the wikipedians have indicated their profession by including themselves, and, as I have just said earlier, it's wrong at least in my case). --BACbKA 09:25, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

And thank you! Peace :) --Striver 14:25, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adjacent columns with wiki templates[edit]

Hey again, I thought you might be interested in a section of an article which uses wiki templates to format side-by-side columns, $100 laptop#External links. A part of the source looks like this:

col-begin
col-2
*$100 Laptop Project's web site
*OLPC Wiki at MIT
*Annan presents prototype $100 laptop at World Summit on Information Society - MIT press release
*Pledge to buy a retail laptop and subsidize OLPC's efforts
col-2
Audio/video
*Video of Negroponte speech, September 28, 2005 (RealVideo, 55:23)
*Audio of Negroponte's $100 Laptop Presentation
*The $100 Laptop: An Up-Close Look - Web video of the first laptop prototype, by Andy Carvin
*Negroponte discusses One Laptop Per Child (MP3), South China Morning Post, December 6, 2005
col-end

And so it seems that it is possible to format columns this way, using templates like Col-begin, Col-2, and Col-end. However, it's not much different, as the templates themselves are CSS. Just thought I'd let you know. -- Daverocks (talk) 08:58, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"sig buggy"[edit]

I see you added a comment to Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous) (which I've answered) to which you appended the comment "(sig buggy)". I think you might be interested on Wikipedia:How to fix your signature.

Tagging for clean-up[edit]

Hello there...I noticed that you tagged all of the character articles for Xanth for clean-up. I removed them and added a line about the basis for the list articles to those pages. I realize that they need a lot more work, but right now they are the foundation of what is being built. Please check back in a week to see our progress. If you still think they need work, tag them again. :) Lady Aleena (sig buggy)

 • The context tag is not as clear as it could be. All I was asking was that the words characters of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony should appear in the first paragraph. You have done that so I am now happy and have no further complaints about the articles. -- RHaworth 00:26, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikifying[edit]

This is in regards to your article The Bionic series; per your request on your User Page, could you please explain why you don't want to use wikipedia code? It's just going to end up being wikified by me or someone else. Pages need to conform and as it stands now, the coding is a mess. Also, I suggest you review Wikipedia etiquette and revise your Userpage note -- please remember no one "owns" the articles on these pages. At any time they can be rewritten, reverted, and completely changed by anyone. (Please respond on my talk page). 23skidoo 17:08, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can't go around modifying Wikipedia rules to meet your comfort level. It just makes it a real pain for the rest of us. If you want to create your own HTML wiki site, you're certainly free to do so. In the meantime, I will be wikifying the Bionic article (and any others I stumble across with HTML) as this is the way things are here. If you have an issue with the use of Wikipedia coding, I suggest taking it up with Jimbo Wales or the Village Pump. 23skidoo 19:48, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The introduction needs to be expanded and there is material here that can be deleted since it's already included in other articles, otherwise it looks exactly the same. I do believe, however, that it is against Wikipedia format (better check the Style Guide) to have two images side-by-side like that. I'll have to investigate further. As it stands, it looks awkward because of the TOC. 23skidoo 20:06, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If wikicoding is causing your dial-up to slow down (though I'm still surprised anyone is still on dialup -- that's not a dig against you, as I keep seeing this even though broadband and cable is often less expensive, but a lot of places still don't have it), I suggest making comments to this effect in the Bug reports section of Wikipedia or Community Portal. Maybe if enough people comment about this there might be some improvements made, though the Internet as a whole is not slowing down for dial-up or modem users to catch up -- I'm on a cable modem and I'm finding it to be too slow for a lot of pages now. As far as setting up your own Wiki, I've heard of people being able to do it free of charge but I have no idea how to set it up. The coding is available from here, but unless you're able to find a Geocities or Lycos willing to give you a large amount of free space I agree I'm not sure how it would work. I was just foolin' with you on that. Personally, I also work with HTML to a limited extent and I find Wikipedia's version to be far simpler and more efficient, especially when it comes to linking to other articles. But it's only intended as an internal coding, not something to go elsewhere. 23skidoo 20:29, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I only know a little HTML, and the Wikicoding is there for a reason, so I wouldn't support an HTML movement. IMO it works better than HTML and if there's a speed issue, that's something that needs to be rectified at another level. I do like your IM idea, however, although Talk Pages allow archiving of messages, which IM does not. Also, since people around the world use Wikipedia, IM might not be practical (I tried to set up IM with members of a couple of Yahoo Groups but dropped the idea because it's hard to do it when you're in Canada and you're trying to IM someone in India. 23skidoo 17:19, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please anihilate AWM's old category[edit]

Aleena: AWM, as Fplay, created Category:Wikipedians by stuff as a slop bucket to contain unstructured userbox proliferation and minimize the size of Special:Uncategorizedcategories. It has continued to exist beyond its useful life. Please recat the two remaining straggler cats and mark it for deleteion. AWM -- 70.231.175.26 20:04, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page categories[edit]

Yes, see Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 February 28#User categories. I went through and changed everybody's userpage (and the userbox templates that populate them) to the new categories to avoid leaving red links on all the userpages. Also I added sort keys so that people get sorted under their actual name, rather than under "U" for "User". — Mar. 9, '06 [01:13] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Magazine images[edit]

Hiya. There has been a big thing recently about magazine covers and fair use. Fair use only applies if the actual product itself is being discussed. The product was a TV guide -- not V. If the article discussed the TV Guide's treatment of V (if it were sufficiently notable), then that would be fair use. Hope this makes sense. If not, I can point yoi in the direction of relevant discussions. It is controversial, with imagephiliacs (?) claiming admins are being heavy-handed, etc. The JPS talk to me 16:54, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tristam[edit]

Hi. Yeah that's me. The template I created has a "Computer and video game template" category attached to it, which I think is a good category for it. However, that category carries through to all pages I place the template on as a category in each of those pages. I was wondering how I could keep it in the template itself but remove it from the individual pages (the category is not listed in the code on those pages, so I don't know how to remove it). Thanks! --Tristam 06:37, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The template in question is Template:Chocobo series, while the page in question is Chocobo Racing. However, I haven't saved my edits to the Chocobo Racing page (it isn't completed), and so it won't show up there yet.

Ah, absolutely perfect. Thank you!

My dear[edit]

I feel your pain over the renaming thing. I'm in there, and I have posted the links on the Wikiproject Films talk page. Please take a little break, have a cup of tea, don't stress so much. You are not alone. Cheers, Her Pegship 17:33, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You've got my support too. It's a dirty job, but needed doing. Oh, and Her Pegship, while you've got the kettle on... milk and one sugar. The JPStalk to me 18:57, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind being "mother". <g> Her Pegship 00:11, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshots category[edit]

Howdy - Just a heads up that I commented on the CfR for Category:Screenshots of movies and television; since there's already a separate Category:Screenshots of television, I suggest we rename the former category to Category:Screenshots of films and sort accordingly. Any thoughts? Her Pegship 00:29, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Broken category[edit]

Oops! Very sorry about that. Just an impulse when I see categories with red links. --Liface 15:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shrieker[edit]

I did do an entry for David DeCoteau's movie called Shrieker. How can it be recovered? And what does one do when two movies (or books or TV shows or whatever) have the same name? Some additional wordage, I'd guess.

Btw, nice choices of topics you primarily Wiki. Been a Xanth fan since the first book, for one.  :)

Thanks for the work that you did! :D Steve-o 06:50, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OOPS! :O ;) Steve-o 06:50, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Family tree[edit]

I'd never seen the familytree template before, and the only other pedigree I can recall working on is House of Eorl, but sure--what do you have in mind? ("larger" than Template:Blackfamilytree? gulp) —wwoods 00:10, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
