== Image:E17-fetus.gif listed for deletion ==
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:E17-fetus.gif has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy (ptt) 17:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree Image:E17-fetus.gif[edit]

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:E17-fetus.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page for more information if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Iamunknown 04:45, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I replied to your comment at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images#February 3. Note that (1) requests for permission must be sent to permission-en AT wikimedia DOT org, preferrably with the request and grant together in one e-mail; (2) the copyright owner must know that the image may be modified, redistributed, and used in any other way including, but not limited to, commercial uses; and (3) if the image is used by permission, then it is {{PD}}, not {{PD-self}}. --Iamunknown 21:41, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another brainmaps images[edit]

I listed Image:NeuronGolgi.png on February 1st. You seem to have some sort of power at brainmaps.org; see if it can be released into the public domain. --Iamunknown 23:25, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This image is a screenshot and thus in the public domain according to their terms of use. Medlat 23:30, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's a different color than the one on the screenshot. Furthermore, I'm uncomfortable with these images being released into the public domain. The clause could be revoked at any time and Wikimedia sued. The terms of use has been blocked from being archived as per http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.brainmaps.org/index.php?p=termsofuse, so it cannot be used as a record. I'd much prefer the CC-by license. --Iamunknown 23:52, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The screenshots are now CC-ed. Medlat 00:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Despite the change in terms, this image is still not free. The new terms just claim it is licensed under the Creative Commons license, but doesn't mention which CC license. Not all CC licenses are considered free by WP (some prohibit commercial use or derivitives). Not to mention the WP description of the image in question still shows PD, not a CC license. If you need to choose a license, use either GFDL or explicitly one from WP's list of free licenses (cc-by-2.5 would be good if you want to use CC).—RP88 04:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Medlat, it's true that the image is still not free. I tried to help, but I made the mistake of not explicitly disclaiming that I am not a lawyer (IANAL) and am not qualified to give legal advice. That said, though I suggested the screenshots be released under the CC-by-2.5, I do not know the legal obligations on the part of BrainMaps.org to license the images as such. I do not know if merely saying "these images are licensed under X license" where "X" is an appropriate free licenses is appropriate, or if there are other obligations. You may wish to contact permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org to explicitly allow just the few images on http://brainmaps.org/index.php?p=screenshots to be used on Wikipedia under an appropriate license. You may need to contact them multiple times. That is my final suggestion. I am sorry this mess is not finished yet. Just remember that I am wary to give any more advice because IANAL. --Iamunknown 06:41, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They are now as free as can get. They are released under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. Medlat 16:35, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the summary and license of both Image:E17-fetus.gif and Image:NeuronGolgi.png to reflect that they are licensed under cc-by-2.5. Thank you very much Medlat, we appreciate your persistence and patience. —RP88 19:29, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, thank you. I apologize for my inconsistencies. --Iamunknown 19:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:25, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
