Hiram Revels

[edit]

My mother is a Revels and Hiram was her great Uncle, she is 91 years old. Hiram Revels was part Native American. From his writing, there is no documentation that there was any form of slavery in his family. He came out of North Carolina, my grandfather came from the Shoals in North Carolina. My Grandfather Claude Oscar Revels told my mother that Hiram was his Uncle and he considered himself Native American. They were Cherokee at that time which later became Lumbee. I believe that the government decided who was Indiana and who was not. I have seen official papers that show that my grandparents had their race changed in Virginia. Mr Plecker did as you stated and that idea was adopted by the Germans against the Jews. Do some more research.

Firstly, A) yes, I am just now reading this, B) thank you for using my link to post a new message, however, C) you put your message in the wrong location and used no links or references to page history, and D) as per my rules I shouldn't reply to you and really can't until I know what you're talking about. As food for thought though:
I assume you messaged me based on this message? A) When did I say he was a slave? B) When did I say he wasn't Native American? C) He lived in Indiana? D) ... stated what? E) I think you should try to edit a wiki more often. -PatPeter 04:52, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

US Army officer rank insignia

[edit]

Hi PatPeter, I noticed you've started replacing the images of US Army officer rank insignia on various articles with the version that puts the rank insignia on what appears to be a shoulder epaulette (for example, 2LT, 1LT, CPT, MAJ, LTC, COL, etc.) I'm not entirely certain this is the best way to go, as 1) the insignia are easier to discern and are more distinct when presented as the larger image of the insignia's design alone, and 2) they are worn on many different uniforms in different ways (of which daily utility uniforms are worn the most often), and the "Class-A" style is on it's way out anyway. Can you shed more light on why you feel this change is necessary? Sincere regards, AzureCitizen (talk) 00:33, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}}

I have no idea where else to go for this, I asked the unblocking admin and had no reply, but I have a number of red links on my userpage that I would like restored, do I have to formally request that elsewhere or can I just find an admin and ask him/her? -PatPeter 00:04, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes, you can ask for deleted things to be userfied, ie restored within your user space. To do so, list the names of the pages you want restored (exact names please), and use an {{adminhelp}} here, on your talk page.  Chzz  ►  00:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{adminhelp}}

The only page I suppose I would need "userfied" if you cannot go through due process in simply restoring it to its namespace, would be Template:Babel2, which you could place at User:PatPeter/Babel2. Note: I would prefer it restored to its namespace as it was used by several other users.

As for any other pages, they are already in my namespace, simply scroll down my userpage and restore the red links.

Please and thanks,
-PatPeter 00:12, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I found another one outside my userspace, Template:AFK you could move to User:PatPeter/AFK. -PatPeter 00:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Due to the potentially controversial nature of these requests for userfication, and because some of them are 'Non-deletion process articles' (per WP:USERFY), could you please make this request in WP:UND? Sorry, but it's not a quick straight-forward request, due to the background, so please go through that channel; and sincere apologies for any trouble - I'm just trying to point you in the right direction as best I can. Thanks,  Chzz  ►  01:11, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FUCK

[edit]

Thought you might want to know that WP:FUCK is up for MfD, since you commented before on its talk page. Historically, since many opposed to the essay do not watch the page, they don't know when it hits MfD. The last MfD was speedy kept after being open just a few hours IIRC. I'm trying to get a constructive dialog going between the various opinions, and this is starting to happen. You can find it at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Don't-give-a-fuckism (3rd nomination) if you care to comment. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 05:11, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sleeping

[edit]

I tried to use your template with parameter 3 set to her, but there is the 'his rebuttal' in there that is not changed? The same is true for {{AFK}}. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:29, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Plastikspork! Thank you for taking an interest in my templates.
I am about to do a major and minor revision to Sleeping and a minor revision to AFK (the minor revision allowing a user to input the gender instead of directly changing between him or her [which causes a problem when using his as you pointed out]). I will either do it today or tomorrow since I need to wake up in five hours. -PatPeter 08:01, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Let me know when you have updated it. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 17:42, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Success! Template:AFK has been lifted of that gender bug and Template:Sleeping now has a new feature (and the same bug fixed): automatic hiding. You can input two values as parameter 3 and parameter 4 which will display the template if during that time and hide it when not. I must also thank you Plastikspork, for giving me a fun template challenge on a wiki, been so long since I used parser functions... damn Java. Feel free to report any bugs you find here again. -PatPeter 00:01, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Army units

[edit]

Patpeter,

I deleted the merge tag from Template:Army units and instead started a discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2013 March 3. Merge tags should not be used on templates and categories and should instead be discussed at the discussion forums for those namespaces. Please post at the discussion your reasons for merging these templates. Thanks,

Userboxen

[edit]

I'm working through your request to have your userboxes restored, and I thought I'd drop you a friendly note on User:PatPeter/User adultswimbadshows. There's been some backlash lately against "negative" userboxes (ie "this user doesn't like..." or "this user is against"). You might look at this one and a couple of the others and consider rewording them before someone objects.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 22:03, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ug, really? I think that was just happening as I left Wikipedia (I am only still around to WikiGnome). Anyway, the ADBS userbox says "should be taken off the air permanently", which is much better than "This user hates <these shows>" or anything like what the [as] admins have to deal with over on their boards with death threats to some of these shows (I am not kidding). I doubt anyone will really care about that one, but thank you very much once again, as I think I mentioned that I would hope to discuss any possible controversial userboxes with my undeleting admin. Any other userboxes worth mentioning? -PatPeter 04:05, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I don't get really uptight about what people have on their user boxes -- I figure if anyone wants to post something that offends me, I'd rather know right off the bat that they're a jerk (or worse). But I'm also in the minority on this, so I just thought I'd give you a heads up, especially because, as you rightly point out, people do get worked up about their fiction. :) The only one that I had to do a bit of research on is the Reboot Revival box. It was deleted as advertising, I'm guessing because of the external link. I couldn't find anything discouraging external links in user boxes so I restored it, but obviously at least one person had a problem with it. I wouldn't think it's controversial, but I am often surprised about what is controversial.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 15:40, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll just leave it around and deal with it if and when it comes. -PatPeter 06:45, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
