Changes to Ursula Appolloni's wiki page[edit]

I wish to understand why EncyclopediaUpdaticus continually re-inserts the sentence, "she was a smoker and that family asked her to stop ...etc." (or something to that effect). This insertion is immaterial and detracts from the factual basis of the rest of her page. I am her son, I should add, and the insertion is also not fully accurate, as only one member of the family requested her to quit. Prof2012 (talk) 14:42, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Prof2012, you would have to ask them yourself. Resolving arguments is best done on the talk page of the article in question, which I suggest you do. Primefac (talk) 14:59, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Prof2012 (talk) 20:42, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, we have asked you to refrain from making changes to the main page until this dispute is resolved. If you continue to disregard the dispute resolution process, your editing privileges may be revoked. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 19:24, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. I in fact have only seen this request from you now for the first time. Moreover, the change I last made was meant as I suggestion for middle ground. I'm curious though, how do these things get resolved? Cheers, Prof2012 (talk) 10:31, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This can end up in a number of ways:
  1. The dispute can end up supporting my position and the information stays.
  2. You could present some persuasive argument for your position that sways a majority of opinion. In that case the dispute is resolved in your favour.
  3. The dispute can go unresolved. In this case the information stays.
  4. Some other editor operating with a neutral point of view might come along that presents a compromise wording. Using the editing policy of WP:BRD this could present a possible resolution.
I have seen this process work for many disputes on other articles. Granted this article is not as high profile as others and is not likely to generate as much interest but the process is the same. Hope this helps. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 15:49, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, this clarifies things. So where would I present my persuasive argument, here? I figure it's worth one more try. Prof2012 (talk) 18:27, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just continue the discussion on the Appolloni talk page. That has the most likelhood of being seen by more editors. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 13:32, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Stephen Scharper, Toronto Photo at Home.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Stephen Scharper, Toronto Photo at Home.jpg, which you've attributed to Hilary Cunningham Scharper. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dianna (talk) 00:55, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of Ursula Appolloni[edit]

Knowing that you have a familial interest in this article, a picture of Ursula would do much to improve this article on Wikipedia. You might consider donating a picture of her that can be added to the article. The rules for adding pictures are somewhat arcane so I could assist you with that. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 13:38, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will look through and find something suitable. I would welcome the help on loading it as I find picture the trickiest part of the wiki process. Prof2012 (talk) 21:56, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello EncyclopediaUpdaticus. I have a good picture of Ursula Appolloni taken by parliament hill staff in front of her office the year she was first elected. The picture was hers, and now ours, so there should be no copyright issues. Now how do you recommend I should proceed? Prof2012 (talk) 16:42, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so you need to sign on to Wikimedia (You can try signing in with Prof2012 but you may need to create a separate account on Wikimedia). This is the place where Wikipedia stores all of its pictures. After you sign on, there should be a how-to tutorial on the main page. Click next at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions. There will be a page that says "this is my own work"/"this is not my own work"; select the first choice. The next choice will be about licensing. To make things simple select the default which is 'grant all free access to the picture' (you can change this later but I have not found it to be a problem). After putting in a few details, The upload will be complete. When that is finished return to Wikipedia and edit the page on Ursula Appolloni. Insert the picture file name into the infobox on the line that says "image=". Add a "caption=" if suitable. Use "imagesize=" to change the viewing size of the picture relative to the text. I recommend something like "imagesize=175px" as a value. Let me know if you have any problems. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 12:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you EncyclopediaUpdaticus. This was very helpful. It's up now.Prof2012 (talk) 13:56, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nice picture. I tweaked the infobox a bit. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 18:42, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
