Cher at the Colosseum

In regard to the table in this article, I wonder if we can come up with a design for the table that will satisfy everyone. The problem is that I don't think it adds anything to have three columns in the table repeating the same data on every line because that information is not changing. Suppose we created a table about a tour in which the performer gave concerts at various locations within the United States, but did not go out of the country -- would we really need a column that said that the country was "United States" on every line? In that case, we could just put a sentence at the start of the table that said that the tour was within the United States. Similarly, if Cher is only performing this show at one venue in one city in one country, I don't see what benefit we get from repeatedly saying that each show is at the Colosseum in Las Vegas in the United States -- that isn't going to change. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 23:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Did you find someone else?

Hi, I reverted your change of the Aussie peak for Cher's cover of "I Found Someone" back to 17 from 8, per the source cited there. I do notice, however, that she is listed as being one of the top 50 singles of the year, which is bizarre because not only does the cited source for the country's chart say the peak was 17 but it says she debuted there and then fell quickly off the charts 5 weeks later. I was curious, because there are known to be anomalies with year-end charts; for example, in very rare instances a record can peak at a modest number but linger on the charts for months, or enjoy a re-release or other resurgence that does not take it higher but which adds to its yearly points, and thereby make it onto a year-end chart. Is there a different chart you're using where she peaked at 8? Of course we need to have a solid and verifiable source to cite in order to override the legitimate source already in the article. Hi, basically ARIA didn't start their official charts until June 1988. Before that, it was the Australian Chart Report or the Kent Music Report as some called it who would compile the charts, as stated on the Wikipedia page for ARIA Charts. As ARIA didn't start until June 1988, I Found Someone was at no.17 in the charts at the time ARIA started compiling their charts. However, the song was actually released in January 1988 and had reached no.8 in the charts. By going to the link below, you will see that the song was actually released in January 1988 and reached no.8 spending 29 weeks on the chart. This was taken from an Australian Chart Book (1970-1992) and is an official source. It's from a forum but the page has been scanned out so you will see that the song actually reached no.8 before the ARIA chart was created. This is also supported by the following site (http://top100singles.blogspot.com/) By going to every top 100 single in 1988, you'll see I Found Someone peaked at no.8 in 22/2/88.

Hey, no problem. I do now recall that as being what happened there, and I visited the link you gave. No offense, but for editorial reasons, when I registered here I made the choice to conduct all my discussions of Wikipedia-related matters publicly on Wiki talk pages.

This would not be my approach in every situation, but in light of the link and my recollection, I don't challenge your assertion, I don't need to see the scan. The article has other data points without refs, but extraordinary circumstances like having a contradictory ref about a specific data point (even one we now know to be erroneous) suggests that to prevent someone else from finding and re-adding the #17, and having to go through all this again, seeing as how you have the scan, you should fill in a cite book tag with whatever data you can based upon the scan and where it originally comes from (meaning the book, not the forum). If you're unfamiliar, one example of a cite book tag is the following between double braces like {{ }}:

cite book |title= |last= |first= |author= |coauthors= |year= |publisher= |location= |isbn= |page= |pages= |url= |accessdate=

You don't need to fill in every field of a tag (there are more, I gave you an abridged one) and blank fields will not appear, but of course you need a title, which you have, and in the case of an esoteric book like this, a couple other relevant things. As this is a book of charts it won't have an author per se but it should have an editor listed in place of the author field, and a publisher. If you don't have a page number I would substitute "pages" with "chart date" and put in the week you note it peaked. It's not as much about adhering to everything in the tag as it is about providing a logical if not specific location in a legitimate book, so any interested or challenging party who can track the book down doesn't have to spend extra time paging through. Hi Hipal, I removed it as she was not paid $180 million to perform in Las Vegas. It was reported as $60 million when she first started and afterwards reports mistakenly said $60 million per year which was impossible. It doesn't really matter which source is reported as it's only a guess, no-one knows what she was paid for the shows. If you're going to change the source that's fine but don't put it back to the incorrect figure of $180 million. StephenN17 (talk) 19:46, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
