Deletion Tags[edit]

Do not remove deletion tags. You have done this at least twice. Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. WAvegetarian (talk) (email) (contribs) 21:49, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • You should also know that doing this will not stop the deletion process. Reyk 22:52, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop using Wikipædia for the selfish purpose that you are now. It is highly inconvenient and annoying for all of us involved in reverting your purely advertising links. You are looking at a blocking if this continues. See also: What Wikipedia is not Setokaiba 19:06, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vanity[edit]

Please stop adding links to your reviews on GameFAQs. It's vanity and self-promotional. Also you have a number of fair use images on your user page, which violates the Fair use policy. They need to be removed.--Toffile 18:16, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Star Wars[edit]

Image uploading[edit]

Oh! Well.. to upload images visit Special:Upload. Once there, you put the file you want to upload and the name you want it to have inside the Wikipedia. You have to always remember to put the correct tag so it doesn't get deleted. What else? Well... the better description about its source, use, etcetera, more chances you have of not getting your image deleted. Anything else, just place a message on my talk page! Have fun, Zingazin 17:52, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SW videogames[edit]

Of course you can edit video game articles. There is nothing stopping you from editting any article on Wikipedia. If your question is whether the SW wikiproject or the video game wikiproject has has jurisdiction over SW game articles it more of a co-operation of the two. License tagging for Image:Sithious.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sithious.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:07, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Request for Adminship[edit]

It is my regretful task to inform you that I have closed your request for adminship early as unlikely to achieve consensus. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Wikipedia, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask. Request for investigation (81.109.165.33)[edit]

Hi Weirdy. I noticed that you added a request for investigation. That page is only for very specific cases, as described by the page's guidelines. Your alert would be better placed on Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), where it will usually be processed within minutes. Many alerts that are incorrectly placed on Requests for investigation are never dealt with, simply because they become old before an administrator gets to them. Thanks for your efforts. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 08:49, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPA, please[edit]

Hi,

Regarding this edit:

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.

I know that vandalism is frustrating, but lashing out in return is not only incivil and against the spirit of Wikipedia, it also just encourages the vandal. Please restrict your communication to the warning templates if you can't restrain yourself from saying something incivil. You should probably also try to take it less personally -- when you think about it, it's not really worth it to get upset about somebody who has so little to do with his/her life that s/he entertains him/herself by trying to mess up Wikipedia pages. ;)

Thanks.

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Beaumont HillsPS.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 15:36, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Koon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Koon.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 02:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was no need to upload a second copy of this image under a different name. All you had to do was clarify the source and licensing of the old image. But your fair use rationale is great. Thanks for your help. —Bkell (talk) 08:34, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Mastermundi.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mastermundi.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

Mastermundi images[edit]

Hello again. You asked about deleting Image:Mastermundi.jpg, which is a duplicate of Image:Master mundi.jpg. I am not an administrator, so I cannot delete images; I can only nominate them for deletion. You can also nominate images for deletion. Let me show you how it works.

In general, if you think an image should be deleted, you can follow the three steps at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion (see the "Instructions" section). First you add the {{ifd}} tag (which stands for "image for deletion") to the image description page, then you notify the uploader, and lastly you list the image on the appropriate IFD page, along with the reason you think it should be deleted. If the image is used in any articles, you should add the {{ifdc}} tag to the captions (this stands for "image for deletion caption"). That's it. This deletion process takes seven days, during which other users can participate in the discussion. After the week is up, an administrator will come along, and if the consensus was to delete the image (or if there were no objections), then the image will be deleted.

There are a few times when the normal image deletion process does not need to be followed. One such case is when the image does not have proper source or licensing information. In this case you can add {{subst:nsd}} if the image is missing a source (this stands for "no source date", I think) or {{subst:nld}} if it is missing licensing information ("no license date"). Then you should notify the uploader that there is a problem, and you're done. The {{nsd}} and {{nld}} tags include the date the tag was added. There is a bot called OrphanBot that runs around and looks for images which have had one of these tags for more than a week; if the problem hasn't been fixed, then the image can be deleted.

Finally, some images can be "speedily deleted" if they meet the criteria for speedy deletion. One of these criteria is that an image is an exact duplicate of another image. In this case you should first make sure that the duplicate isn't used in any articles (look at the bottom of the image page, under "File links"); if it's used anywhere, change those pages to use the other image. Then you can mark the duplicate image with the {{isd|Image.ext}} tag ("image speedy deletion"), which makes a box that says that the image is a duplicate of Image.ext (change this to the appropriate image name). This will place the duplicate image in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, and an administrator can delete it at any time. Usually duplicate images that I tag with {{isd}} are deleted within a few minutes. There are other criteria for speedy deletion, too, and each reason has its own tag; see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Deletion templates.

So in the particular case of Image:Mastermundi.jpg and Image:Master mundi.jpg, you can leave them alone if you want, because Image:Mastermundi.jpg is already tagged with {{nld}} and OrphanBot will take care of it in a few days. On the other hand, you can add the tag {{isd|Master mundi.jpg}} to the image page for Image:Mastermundi.jpg, because it is an exact duplicate. If you do this it will be deleted sooner, and there won't be questions in a few days about whether the "no license" issue has been resolved yet.

There are similar processes for deleting articles, categories, templates, and so on, but I don't know much about them because I usually work with images. You can take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, Wikipedia:Categories for deletion, Wikipedia:Templates for deletion, and the other articles in Category:Wikipedia deletion for more information. For more about the process of deletion in general, see the Wikipedia:Deletion policy.

Again, if you have any questions about anything, just let me know and I'll try to help. —Bkell (talk) 07:07, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

answers.com[edit]

When I have been on the run to look for Star Wars books on the net, I often come across Answers.com. They have been copying text from Wikipedia. Here is one of them. [1] Compare it to tis article Boba Fett: Pursuit. Are they allowed to copy and paste text from the English Wiki to its own site? Tell me about it on my talk page. Weirdy 23:17, 24 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Yes, they are allowed to copy as all text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License (See Copyrights for details).--Clawed 23:58, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the Free Encyclopedia[edit]

I see you've come up across Wikipedia's rather tight copyright rules, and also noticed that Wikipedia content appears elsewhere in the net. This may be confusing you a little - but the key is that "The Free Encyclopedia" slogan under the logo. Wikipedia isn't meant to be a "really cool website", it's meant to be a "really cool encyclopedia", that can be reproduced freely by anyone anywhere, so long as they acknowledge the source. To keep it reproducible, the encyclopedia itself tries to minimise reliance on work copyrighted by others, and all contributors (including yourself) license your contributions under the GFDL copyright license, which allows others to re-use it. So, Wikipedia actually encourages other sites to copy our text (it's basically the whole point of Wikipedia that our content gets reused) and discourages contributors from submitting previously copyrighted material. Project updates
Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements!

WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas:

  • An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style)
  • Evolving lists into regular articles
  • Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections)
  • Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members
  • More to come

These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles.

Things to do
There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving!
Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives
Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.
Article evolution

As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort.

For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article.

Sounds confusing, eh? It won't, for examples will be popping up left and right in the near future!

Signed...

Swimsuit and Monokini merge or not?[edit]

How long were you planning to let the discussion go on, which you started at Talk:Swimsuit? It looks like it is not officially closed yet and also it seems that there is a majority not to merge the pages. (BTW, I have no intention of vandalising your or anyone else's user page.
