WCVE-FM is the National Public Radio member station for Richmond, Virginia. It is owned and operated by Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corporation. It airs a mix of NPR news and talk, classical music and jazz.[1]

History

WCVE-FM was conceived in the mid-1980s after Union Theological Seminary decided to sell the area's original NPR station, WRFK. Not wanting to leave Richmond without public radio, Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, owner of area PBS member WCVE-TV, stepped in and won a construction permit for 88.9 FM. WCVE-FM went on the air on March 26, 1988.

The station's signal is simulcast on sister stations WCNV in Heathsville and WMVE in Chase City.

WCVE-FM's studios are located with television sisters WCVE-TV and WCVW-TV at 23 Sesame Street in Bon Air, Virginia.
