Organization[edit]

Can we organize these courses into some kind of order? They are placed haphazardly now. In the PPI, we organized them in alphabetical order by the university name. Should we not do the same here? Starvinsky (talk) 19:51, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, they should go in some kind of better order... I'd been holding off, since they were still being added and it's unreasonable to ask newcomers to navigate the table syntax to put new entries in the right order. I'll go ahead and make it alphabetical by university like before. If you have any better ideas for organization, though, feel free to implement them.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:41, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

totals[edit]

It would be great to have at the top of the page a summary box or something with the total numbers of (1) courses, (2) universities, and (3) students! Jwild (talk) 19:50, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Privacy Notice for Students and Instructors[edit]

user:Bob_the_Wikipedian, user:dcoetzee and I have found the need to address privacy issues with instructors on behalf of their students. It may be a good idea to provide a clear privacy notice to help folks know their options and make wise decisions that keeps everyone safe and happy (e.g. not uniquely or individually identified if they choose not to be).

  1. Please be aware your username does not have to contain any personal information. For example, you do not have to use your real name, your location, or email address information. Navigating privacy online is a good skill we want to help you foster.
  2. If you do not wish to associate an already-existing account with this course, you are welcome to create a second account. Please make it clear this second account is to be used only for the purpose of completing the course assignment(s).
  3. ??More Resources??

Mattsenate (talk) 00:10, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a suggested reminder sentence for every page that might be confused to be asking for private information (pages that say to add your username to the list, etc.) CAs could be reminded of the same.
Remember that Wikipedia does not require personally identifiable information from you in order to edit. Your username allows you anonymity in editing and protects your other personal information. Wikipedia is freely available to just about anyone: posting your own personal details to Wikipedia is your choice and is likely unwise. Posting of others' personally identifiable information is harassment and is not permitted.
This is great, I think we should include this as the note. It is clear and rather positive (except that last part, which is serious). Mattsenate (talk)
Also, if needed: Wikimedia Privacy Policy applies to all WMF projects and governs any nonpublic information gathered (e.g. e-mail if you sign up, etc... this only governs stuff NOT posted to the public Wikis, I think).Manumitany (talk)
Good resource, thanks Mattsenate (talk) 02:10, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, regarding the second account part... I don't think this will be very common. I think it's something that can just be answered if/when it comes up. If someone already has an account they're far more likely to either (a) not care or (b) be Wiki-savvy enough to already know. Or both.Manumitany (talk) 01:07, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
+1 Agree with you here Mattsenate (talk) 02:10, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Link to older courses[edit]

This page should provide a link to older courses (summer 2011, spring 2011, fall 2010). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 15:47, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page name needs updating[edit]

Page is currently called "2011 Q3" even though people are now listing "2012 Q1" courses. Can someone with WMF correct? See the link "Add your course to the list (after course page has been created)." to see what I mean. Brianwc (talk)

Course dates[edit]

Courses list the dates when they begin and end. I think all courses should use the same date format, and should list day, month, and year. One of the courses that is currently listed does not include the year. Kbarchard (talk) 15:28, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion; I've added "2012" to the ends of both said dates. Rob SchnautZ (WMF) (talkcontribs) 19:31, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Slow entry[edit]

I've submitted all of my materials according to the new process and the instructions that are listed on the front page of USEP, but I have yet to see my course entered on the page and I don't know if anyone has seen my materials. Help! Crtew (talk) 13:38, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, I had the same problem -- Jami is very helpful, but perhaps she's a bit swamped. We need to have better responsiveness than this; time is very short before the start of the semester. Jami, is there any way you can delegate some of this work? Klortho (talk) 14:05, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Klortho, thank you for your response. Crtew (talk) 16:18, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What would be helpful is also to provide instructors who are waiting to be listed with some way of editing our Wikipedia syllabus.Crtew (talk) 16:21, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean, "wikipedia syllabus"? If you're talking about your course page, I don't see why you couldn't get started on that without waiting. That's what I did, here, and I'm now working on transferring the content to the real course pages. Klortho (talk) 16:33, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New course page template?[edit]

The "Create a course page" here has a button to create a new course page. I have two questions:

1. Shouldn't the page be under "United States Education Program", not "USEP"? This has caused me some problems. I finally figured out that I should move my pages to the former, and make "USEP" a redirect.

2. Why doesn't it use the very fancy template devised by Sage Ross? I just found this template by poking at another course's page, and it's taken me a while to figure out how to use it, but it seems very nice. Klortho (talk) 17:04, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The fancy template is overkill for many courses and (as you've noticed) has a non-trivial learning curve to get started. It's designed around the idea that the course page will be a hub of activity and information for the instructor, students, and volunteers. But many courses don't find that necessary, so Jami created a simpler baseline course page that serves mainly to catalog who is involved with each course. But if you'd rather use the fancy template, go for it! I'll look into your issue #1 later today.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 15:04, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What problems did you have when the page was under Wikipedia:USEP? At first glance, it seems like that shouldn't cause any problems with the template; the intention is just to make a more concise page title.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 15:16, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can't remember. I thought it had to do with the breadcrumbs, but they're working now. Just forget #1, then. Klortho (talk) 15:31, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please fix the mix up at the bottom of the Fall 2012 courselist[edit]

See the right hand side box that contains the links to last year's courses. It is now in the "number of students" box of the Youngstown University course. As I was alphabetically listing my course I must have made an inadvertent change. BerikGBerikG (talk) 21:19, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
