Zach Hadel (born May 13, 1990), also known online as psychicpebbles, is an American animator, voice actor, YouTuber, writer, director, and storyboard artist. He is well known for his Internet animations on Newgrounds and YouTube and for being a member of the popular Let's Play web series OneyPlays. Hadel has created numerous animated projects, including Hellbenders, and currently hosts the podcast Schmucks, where he interviews fellow entertainers such as Vsauce, Finn Wolfhard, JonTron, and Ethan Klein. Hadel and his creative partner Michael Cusack created the Adult Swim animated special, Smiling Friends, which premiered on April 1, 2020.[1]
Career
Hadel began uploading animations to Newgrounds in 2009. Along with fellow Newgrounds animator Chris O'Neill, Hadel animated the music video for the song Unicorn Wizard by the comedy rock band Ninja Sex Party.[2][3]
Hadel has done freelance work, with notable examples being voice work and storyboarding for SpongeBob SquarePants
Hadel provided the voice and animation for a segment of Seth Rogen's Hilarity for Charity, where he and Justin Roiland voiced two ill-fated brothers. Roiland later stated the animation was the one instance of a joke that went too far.[4] Hadel and Roiland also both appeared alongside animator Alex Hirsch on h3h3's livestream podcast for charity[5] where they raised over $100,000 for California wildlife relief.[6]
On April 1, 2020 the late-night Adult Swim block premiered the pilot episode of Hadel and Michael Cusack's animated adult television series, Smiling Friends, featuring the voice talent of Nick Wolfhard, Finn Wolfhard, Tom Fulp, and Mike Stoklasa.[7] The series follows two employees of a private company missioned to bring happiness to the world, with the pilot episode following their attempt to aid an elderly woman's suicidal middle-aged son.[8] On May 19, 2021, Adult Swim announced Smiling Friends had been renewed for a full season which is set to release in 2021.[9]
