Zelenka was born on 31st March 1983, in Czechoslovakia. His family emigrated from the Czech Republic to Italy when he was six years old, due to his father's work. He has lived in Italy ever since. Zelenka received Italian citizenship in January, 2006, in time for him to represent Italy at the [[2006 Winter Olympics]], where he placed 25th.
