Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to Eastern Europe or the Balkans, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

If this was the first article that you created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
The page 3rd Canadian Tank Brigade has been deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. As the page met any of these strictly-defined criteria, it was deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been deleted are:
- It appeared to be an unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.canadiansoldiers.com/organization/fieldforces/casf/3rdcanadiantankbrigade.htm. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
- It appeared to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review. — Diannaa (talk) 12:57, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
Category Military units and formations
[edit]Regiments is a subcategory of military units; please do not add articles into two different levels of the category tree. Buckshot06 (talk) 15:03, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. Thank you for letting me know Neyoshadow (talk) 15:04, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Russo-Ukrainian War topic edits
[edit]Hello Neyoshadow, in case you're not aware, users who are not extended confirmed — having 500 edits and an account age of 30 days — are not allowed to make edits to the Russo-Ukrainian War topic area under WP:RUSUKR. This applies especially to article creations such as battle of Prohres, which also does not need a separate article as the content is already covered under Pokrovsk offensive. Thank you. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 00:24, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. Thank you for letting me know. Neyoshadow (talk) 00:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- But one question. Shouldn't that page be protected like certain pages under WP:RUSUKR such as the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive? Neyoshadow (talk) 00:28, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it should, and I just requested protection at WP:RFPP before you sent this comment. I was initially hesitant to do so however as your edits were helpful and constructive. Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 00:29, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
