Requests for page protection

This page is for requesting that a page, file or template be protected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Note: Editors should not consider requesting page protection as a method for continuing an argument from elsewhere nor as a venue for starting a new discussion regarding article content. If a request contains excessive argument, appears to be intended to resolve a content dispute, includes personal attacks or uncivil comments, or has any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page and no action will be taken.

Reason: Temp increase to full-prot. Spate of uncited or clearly-bogus-cited ideas related to Gaza leaking through long-standing SEMI. DMacks (talk) 19:58, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Checking to see if protection is necessary. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not done. Full protection would be overkill and we'd also have the issue that semi-protection would be lost once the higher level of protection expired. It looks like the last poorly-sourced addition may have been a mistake of some sort since they have come back with actual sources. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:26, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Concur. Thanks for the second/third eyes (and reminding of the layered-protection software limitation). DMacks (talk) 20:33, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – All edits for two months have been reverted, probably needs CTOPS addition. Nswix (talk) 21:31, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP death-hoaxing. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 23:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 23:23, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Genocides in history (1946 to 1999)

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – See the talk page section. Editors keep adding and removing the disputed content.Talk:Genocides_in_history_(1946_to_1999)#Palestinians. Philipnelson99 (talk) 00:28, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Comment upon further inspection, I think it's a sock that keeps removing the content but I'll leave this here to let an admin decide. Philipnelson99 (talk) 00:35, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Teenage Dream (Katy Perry album)

Indefinite semi-protection: Varying levels of disruptive editing over time. Page has previously been semi-protected for up to a year, and that wasn't enough to prevent such issues from returning at one point or another. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:09, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

National Socialist Network

Reason: Persistent slow burn edit warring from IPs/New accounts since 30 November. TarnishedPathtalk 02:06, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ad Orientem (talk) 02:10, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Portuguese Colonial War

Reason: A bizarre situation has come up in this page and in Mozambican War of Independence, Guinea-Bissau War of Independence and Angolan War of Independence where unregistered or barely registered users persistently add Israel to the infobox under the supporters of Portugal using a source that first appeared in Angolan War of Independence to support the exact opposite. When asked for citations they fail to do so. I'd like to request protection on all four pages to prevent further disruptive editing. Wareno (talk) 02:27, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Only post below if you receive no (favourable) reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

BeastMode

Reason: Mentioned title was salted 11 years ago after two deletions, one a G3 and other a G5. I have touched this page after a closed request at WP:AFC/R. I am requesting unsalting in order to create the redirect. (The target in question is to Beast Mode.) As a courtesy, ping me upon unsalting. Hurricane Dorian

Reason: This page has been protected many years ago and the risk of vandalism seems low. Besides, many IPs are trying to propose edits but cannot do so because they can’t phrase an edit request exactly the way it’s required, and unprotecting would allow them to edit the page directly. It’s been many years since it was protected, so we can unprotect and if vandalism resumes reprocect. 47.23.40.14 (talk) 16:59, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Comment: while this does look like a reasonable candidate for unprotection (it's been nearly two years since it was indefinitely protected!), I'd request that you first raise the issue with the protecting admin (@MelanieN) on their talk page, per the policy described above. Thanks! —Ganesha811 (talk) 18:13, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Unprotecting a page with indefinite semi-protection or indefinite ECP is pretty much asking for trouble; chances are disruption would quickly resume, and any constructive IP edits would get overshadowed by the bad ones. Not a risk worth taking no matter how long ago the protection was and they're better off submitting edit requests on the talk page. Maybe someone could give tips on how to format such requests. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:13, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Liz Magill

Reason: The narrative is factually incorrect and locked. The author imparts their own spin non the event that began the subjects trouble; namely, an event call Palestine Writes. That event was reported to be shut down because it included rabidly anti-Jewish speakers and writers. Then it was [ermitted to go forth despite assurances otherwise. The events that led to her resignation, the permissibility of anti-Jewish hate speech and anti-semitism were not "alleged" as the writer so gently puts it. Vocally advocating for people's erasure, for the elimination of Israel and any of its supporters, harassment of students who were Jewish on campus by students and professors alike, was not 'alleged'. This should not be left in place and locked. 23Verity (talk) 23:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

* Comment Why not bring this up on the article's talk page @23Verity. There's no need to remove protection now especially if the issue you describe can be fixed via WP:CONSENSUS. Philipnelson99 (talk) 23:15, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Remove this "It is believed[by whom?] that the well-off Meena community enjoy a major share of ST reservation at the cost of other tribals." The Sources that are linked 32 and 33 are basically biased news articles with no substantial government data to support them. No survery has been done about this that Meenas enjoy reservation at the expense of other tribals. The Context in which the News Article were written to support the inclusion of Gurjars or Jats in ST list while bashing Meenas. MahaMatraMat (talk) 07:11, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
