This was a part of common narrative by European settlers, as it insinuates the land was uncared for prior to settler involvement, legitimizing the violent seizure of Indigenous land. If the land was truly "wild" and "virgin," there is no proof in the current references and this is unlikely when noting the presence of the mounds. undo
