In addition, the 7.62×39 cartridge began development prior to encounters with captured MkB. 42s and was first used in the SKS C. 1945. It was developed concurrently and independent to 7.92 Kurz. Further, the AR-10/AR-15 platform which the M16 based on, designed by Stoner and Johnson, doesn't borrow any design cues from the STG-44. The basic form factor was already present in the Federov Avtomat c. 1915 and the internals of the AK are based more on the M1 Garand.
