Don't Look Up is an upcoming American political satire disaster comedy film written and directed by Adam McKay, who produced the film with Scott Stuber.

The film includes an ensemble cast led by Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio who portray two low-level astronomers attempting, via a media tour, to warn mankind about an asteroid that will destroy Earth.[1]

The film was produced by Hyperobject Industries and is set to be released by Netflix in 2021.[2]

Don’t Look Up tells the story of two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.

Development

On November 8, 2019, it was announced that Paramount Pictures would distribute the film, with Adam McKay writing, directing and producing under his Hyperobject Industries banner.[5] On February 19, 2020, Netflix acquired the film from Paramount.[6]

Casting

On February 19, 2020, Jennifer Lawrence was cast in the film.[6] On May 12, 2020, it was announced that Cate Blanchett had joined the film.[7] In September 2020, Rob Morgan joined the cast.[8] In October 2020, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Matthew Perry, and Tomer Sisley were added.[1] In November 2020, Tyler Perry, Melanie Lynskey and Ron Perlman joined the cast.[9] In December 2020, Chris Evans joined the cast.[10]

Filming

On February 19, 2020, it was announced that principal photography would start in April 2020.[6] However, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[11] Filming commenced on November 18, 2020, at various locations in Boston, Massachusetts.[12][13] Part of the film takes place in New York City but those scenes are also being shot in Boston. The film is being shot in other parts of Massachusetts as well. Filming is expected to last until February of 2021.[14]

Release

On February 19, 2020, it was announced Netflix planned to release the film in 2020.[6] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming and release of the film were delayed.[15] It is currently scheduled to be released in 2021.[3]
