Scoring and suggested article improvements
This article has been chosen for monitoring and improvement by the Stockholm Environment Institute SDG 14 project (see here). We are monitoring improvements during the period August 2020 to July 2022 using a scoring tool devised of both automated and expert evaluation. The score for the entire article on Aug 8, 2020 (carried out 11 Feb 2021) was 50/100. For the lead it was 3.4/100. Advice to improve this article:
The title is technically incorrect - fish stock is the base for making fish soup. Fish stocks should be the correct title.
The lead should be lengthened and greatly improved to better reflect the content of the article.
The article could be improved by relating the importance of fish stock assessment to the targets of SDG 14.
The Aug 8 version has numbered notes and bulleted references. This needs to be reversed and all combined into numbered references. ASRASR (talk) 17:40, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Interesting article

Over here: [1]. Should something be mentioned on this page about the major decline of fish stocks worldwide? I did add a "see also" link to overfishing, but perhaps some information needs to be over here as well (the study found that 1/3 of fish stocks are currently collapsed, and forecasts that all fish stocks will collapse within 50 years). I came to this article looking for the food. Can a mention of this be added at the top of this article? I was going to do this, but I don't know how to have two hatnotes on the same line. Just adding the food adds the note on an extra line, which looks untidy.

i.e. Should look like: "Not to be confused with stockfish. For the food, see stock (food)". --smiler (talk) 10:34, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. Done. --Geronimo20 (talk) 11:00, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Definition seems limited

I was asked this morning to write a definition of "stock" for a biological opinion on a salmon hatchery. The definition the article leads with does not ring true for Pacific NW salmon, which exist as largely demographically independent populations. For these fish, as I and my colleagues have used the term, stock either refers to one of these populations, or several of them that are managed as a group (usually for harvest). Not complaining, just saying. Am reluctant to edit because don't fully understand the context of the current version. Are we talking groundfish harvest here?Busaccsb (talk) 22:50, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
