Kotagiri is located in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu state of India. It is a beautiful hill station that stands at an altitude of 6,060 ft above sea level. The name Kotagiri means ‘mountains of the Kotas’. This hill station is a famous tourist spot for its tea plantations and pleasant weather.
Elk Falls, Doddabetta Range, Kodanad Point, Rangaswami Pillar and Catherine Falls are among the places to visit in Kotagiri. Rock climbing and trekking are the best activities to do in Kotagiri hill station. There are a large number of lodges, resorts, cottages and villas to provide shelter and comfort to tourists.

Kotagiri or Kothagiri is a taluk and a Panchayat town in The Nilgiris District[1] in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the third largest hill station in the Nilgiri hills.
Kotagiri is located at 11°26′N 76°53′E / 11.43°N 76.88°E. It has an average elevation of 1,847 m (6,060 ft).[citation needed]

As of 2011[update] India census, Kotagiri town Panchayat has population of 28,207 of which 13,607 are males while 14,600 are females Population of Children aged 0–6 is 2,340 which is 8.30% of total population of Kotagiri (TP). In Kotagiri Town Panchayat, Female Sex Ratio is 1073 against state average of 996. Child Sex Ratio in Kotagiri is 945 compared to Tamil Nadu state average of 943. Literacy rate of Kotagiri city is 86.79% higher than state average of 80.09%. In Kotagiri, Male literacy is around 93.55% while female literacy rate is 80.57%.[citation needed]
