Hi everyone, this is my talk page. As you may know, I get in a lot of arguments with other editors. When I argue, I argue for a long time & don't usually back down - it's in my fight or flight nature. If you have a heated discussion you'd love to have with me, I suggest you wait a day or two before posting here & rephrase any inflammatory remarks you may make for both of our sakes. I don't like fighting & I'm sure you don't either. Thank you...

Text massage needed

Dude - I've given good ol' Andre a bit of a text-massage but feel he needs more of a good going over - I've put out an SOS for Circeus who's one of the best text massagers I've seen. Your writing is a bit clausey and I've done some tweaking but am worried it could get shredded at FAC (but I may be paranoid - not sure as I am not too familiar with bio stuff in terms of prose - recent FA William Shakespeare had some great prose to compare.

We should be able to get this through though - its definitely doable (so don't panic). cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:16, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good work here. I gave the article a copyedit, though the people at FAC might find more stuff to pick at. My main issues are summarize at Talk:André Kertész/Comments. The lead and coverage of his actual artistic work are the two parts especially need work. Circeus 19:20, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Circeus is pretty thorough and if he's massaged it it's a good chance of getting through prose-wise. Still waiting an answer on the religion question....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:12, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I like collaborations...I'm trying to clear a few things I've worked on for a while..lion is on its way and loads of folk have gotten involved...a real love-fest..need to get some stuff on lions in zoos and lion-baiting/taming...if you see anything in a library that'd be cool. Then there's Red-tailed Black Cockatoo which I'm frustrated with as there's about 2 facts it really needs which I can't just get online...I've always liked Astronomy and thought Alpha Centauri or the Andromeda galaxy would be really cool to work up. Have a look at this page where I stick wish-listy sort of things for ideas....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS: A good way to get kudos is one of the FAs that's looking a bit rusty. This list is worth a look - Wikipedia:Featured_articles_with_citation_problems. The FA crew will appreciate it muchly...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Like a 'z' - my ideas are on my to-do page which I've just expanded a bit and will expand more soon.cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:50, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll post my own somewhere - My preferance would be core topics which are generally easier to expand (For example, I found just now that Habitat is in woeful condition! That'd be easy to exapnd to at least a GA. And I saw that you had leopard on your list, so I remembered an article I worked on a while ago, Snow Leopard, which is also in need of attention - I have that "Planet Earth" DVD by the BBC which has a piece on the snow leopard, but I don't know how to cite an educational DVD. Anyway, I'll include all of this in a list later. Cheers, Spawn Man 08:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

....(I knew I had a new message as 2 orange bars lit up when I hit this page) - hmmm..intriguing list...let me have a look at a few entries and I'll get back to ya..as an old D&D player some of those thingies look good too...As far as options, I'd forget random and make a shortlist after I've looked at a few. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:19, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Short ones are really good to expand to rack up a few DYKS with...Circeus is great at copyediting and kick-starting stalled thingies with some good suggestions. I really wanna get lion to FAC pretty soon as well so any input there is much appreciated too. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:22, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK - one final thing with the Hungarian photographer guy - is there anything about what the books Enfants, Paris, our chums the animals and the other one were actually about? Even just one-liners like "series of photos of cute animals/streets of paris/etc" would be extremely helpful. Just a little bit more info on some of the photos or series of photos and I can stick a big support, then hopefully a couple of other supports from others and it'll be through. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

..of course there are gastronomic articles as well....pork is one yummy one (having cooked some up tonight) and yeast is another...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:08, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What he's getting at (I think) is some critique or commentary on AKs work. I thought the same but was happy with the embellishment which you provided. I think he wants more. It would be ideal to get some critique or commentary if there was any but there is no reference to it online at all which is a total pain in the neck...and given he's held in high regard I'm not sure there'll be much if any anyway. If there is none, we can't make any -that's be OR...I'll be going back to the uni library sometime soon in the next week or so so I will see if I can find anything. Don't sweat it. If the worst comes to the worst and the FA ends, we know it's not too far off, we just have to find hte material and renominate. I am having trouble wit the last few lion refs too..cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:49, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updates

..actually Blue does look sorta interesting... now if it were an FA which category would it go into...

The best thing to knock lion on the head is some frigging references to zoos (in captivty subsection) - all the stuff online is pretty vague and I have a few isolated bytes of info I really need some extra oomph to synthesize inta something good. Would be nice to get some more stuff on lions in bloodsports too but I'm not fond of that sorta thing....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:42, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll deal with the cocky thing posthaste...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:42, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Even something as mindlessly obvious as lions are in every friggin' zoo there is.. - know what I mean? cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK - if yer still up - strike thru all yer happy with. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:38, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do like blue but the thing that's a real headache is the OR bit; as I look over the page I am worried that it could be contstrued as OR unless there's a relevant book with lots of twee references on it. I was ruminating over Snow Leopard but doesn't grab me hugely as I'm a little felined out at the mo'...I like oak but was musing on something more southern hemisphere-y. Something I have a book on I am thinking would be cool too. I just realised all my FAs thus far come from the Biology, medicine and psychology section on the FA page....something to address....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:44, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure there's a children's colour book out there with refs. ;) Snow leopard can wait, but you'd have to agree it's not the best. As for the rest - don't be so picky. Don't Australian's have libraries out there? Seeing as my list has lots of stuff which isn't Australian (Shock awe - even a New Zealand article!) I'm sure you'll get a chance to go find one of these "library" things. ;) Seriously though, I might get bored editing bliming ozzie articles all the time. Remember, variation shows that you're a great editor - not many people can edit on numerous topics (That's why I'm dying for Kertesz to pass...). Cheers, Spawn Man 05:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the Food and drink section is pretty thin, as is the mythology section. This is why I mused on pork (yum) and Agaricus bisporus which is the common everyday daggy mushroom. I have access to loads of cookery and food books so refs are a pushover if there's anythiong gastronomic yer interested in. Beer · Coca-Cola · Kashrut · Single malt Scotch · Tea are all former food featured articles, though none of these grab me overtly.

Former FAs like some in Religion and beliefs - Vampire, H. P. Lovecraft....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:00, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just looked at vampire and think it would be an easy one to start with hand knock over the line - we'd get kudos for reducing the FFA list too...and I have some reference books on it already...interested at all? cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:43, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Got some other spider books buried somewhere which'll take me a while to dig out....vampire was an easier do than any of the spooky thingies, but gawd it has some short paras! Got my to-do page on yer weatch list? - I did think of some NZ thingies...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship?

From User talk:SandyGeorgia

Hmmm... I see you everywhere on here - you'd make a good admin... :) Spawn Man 03:35, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking, Spawn Man, but the answer is a consistent No. Too much other work to be done. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh - it was meant to be a joke as I thought you were already an admin.... Spawn Man 23:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amazing rewrite! Well done! Corvus cornix 17:10, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More on spiders - agree about text - I stand chastised. Also - agree that vampire has got lots of rubbish - the closer I looked the more i realised it was gonna need an overhaul. Anyway, I have a reference book so can cite everything once done. I also note vampire had some issues as people argued about whether/how much modern stuff should be in it. I'd favour more as that is more in line with the perception of what a vampire is. Been AFK most of teh afternoon. Also spring cleaning and found a werewolf book too...(hehehe)

I'll leave you with vampire then - give me a hoy and I'll come with the refs etc. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:06, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Yer algorithm sounds good - to FA with vampire (eventually) :) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:07, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re noms - generally there'll be one of us who does the brunt of any given article, so we can play chief and indian alternately - you take charge with vampire then I will with the next one etc.
PS: I wouldnt worry too much about Kertesz as it will get over with some photos and pages next time. Easy do. I stuffed up one nom iwth Stegosaurus first time round...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:21, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vampire

Yeah, I didn't notice the talk page note until after I'd already made my edit, and that was in large part because things about New England getting messed up/misspelled/misgeographied (Yes, that is now a word.) is a minor pet peeve of mine -- it just happens way too frequently, and I find it particularly stupid, especially considering the people I most often see getting things wrong. That aside, it's good to see someone's finally taking the article under their wing to fix it up, it desperately needs it. I'd offer to help, but I don't know that I'll have enough time for a good long while, so having people rely on me for much probably wouldn't be a good idea. Good luck, though, and I'll continue the quick and easy work of reverting vandalism if/when it occurs while you're working on dealing with the big stuff. -Bbik 08:18, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The good thing is there are no equivalent FAs in the corresponding section Religion, mysticism and mythology so we have some free reign about headings etc. The previous version was extremely listy with no real overall structure which I can see evolving here - eg - intro, then etymology, then Common traits in folklore within folk beliefs which is equivalent to a description section really and then moving into chronological sections and presumably a section on porphyria or possible explanations etc with movies/literature/films towards the end...(?) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the folklore section - was trying to synthesise a sentence or two on how our popualr (film etc.) is really a selection of more common traits from a myriad of tales. There'll be a ref for this too. Got alot of stuff on vamps in film etc as well. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Erm...oops...ok, will concentrate on previous....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:34, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Really cunning idea

I know...once Vampire is in a form where we're happy with the format we'll get werewolf formatted out the same and maybe nominate them at a simialr time...:) - each time we can do a pair of articles with a parallel or simialr format eg 2 colours, 2 foods, etc. hehehe cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:10, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry -read about Pablo Escobars hippos on the link Jayhenry did - wow....
But seriously - 2x2 aritcles in each section - thus: in Religion, mysticism and mythology - vampire & werewolf....2 colours whereever the heck they'll go.... in Chemistry and mineralogy I got loadsa medications to choose from...and, hey jewellery there or if you're sick of that one then maybe Ruby, sapphire corundum, opal, emerald etc.. Food and drink...pork and...dunno...name yer favourite food....cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 03:28, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Speaking of fanged undead, you know firs is on WP: Buffy too, don't you :) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:33, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mobbing

You may like to have a look at the chapter "Friendly advice" of the user K. Lásztocska talk page. There is much going on that will be interesting for you. It is concerning a "social editor" who wants to bcome administrator.80.144.89.47 10:35, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WTF? You make no sense... ??? Spawn Man 23:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Spawn. Sorry you got involved in this. This anon and I have been arguing since mid-February about various issues relating to Franz Liszt and Sigismond Thalberg. Nasty things have been said on both sides, but the difference is that I acknowledge my indiscretions while he persists in claiming that only I am guilty of any offenses. He is apparently offended that I have friends and colleagues here, as he has frequently criticized me for the actions of my colleagues, hence his reference to me as a "social editor." He is incorrect that I want to become an admin--I considered it a few months ago but decided against it for the time being. This whole thing is a long and unpleasant story. K. Invitation

Hello, I have been reading your very nice contributions. I would like to extend you an invitation to join us at WP:TIMETRACE. What we help with is:

  • Where dates or periods are mentioned that are important to the article's subject, we see that those are clear, accurate and have citations to reliable sources
  • When an article's subject should have its orgins and development described, we see that the article has a history section and that this is accurate and has reliable sources.

You can read why this is important and more information at WP:TIMETRACE. You don't need to dedicate special time to this, you may for example, while editing diverse articles, check if they have sources in their history or chronology (or when they mention any important date. If they don't, you can either fix it if you have that information, or you can place inline {{Timefact}} calls where those citations to sources are missing, this will display [chronology citation needed]. There are also other resources and templates you can use, just visit us to know more. We will be very glad if we can count with your help. Regards Daoken 08:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
