WarCry

WarCry is a Spanish power metal band from Asturias, situated on the north coast, facing the Cantabrian Sea (Spanish: Mar Cantábrico). From their inception, the band has gone through numerous break-ups and lineup changes.

WarCry was formed in 1992 as a project, by singer Víctor García, but disbanded two years later when he became Avalanch's guitarist. In 1996 the band was reformed, recording a demo in '97. Unfortunatelly, a year later disappeared once again when Victor accepted Avalanch's invitation to re-join them, now as the lead vocals. It wasn't until 2001 that WarCry was finally regrouped to be 'a band' after Victor, along with Alberto Ardines left Avalanch.

Despite being relatively new, WarCry has become one of the most successful and famous bands in the Spanish heavy metal genre, influenced by Manowar and Iron Maiden, combining power and epic metal; adding sometimes a touch of progressive metal into their music, which has helped them to win numerous awards in Spain, as well as outside of the country. But perhaps, the band who marked their way to follow has been the also Asturian, power metal band Avalanch, where Víctor and Alberto formed part as singer and drummer respectively.

In 2001 arose the idea of recording an album with the songs that Víctor García and Alberto Ardines were composing in their spare time, knowing that those wouldn't have the opportunity to be a part of any Avalanch albums, the band where they were working at that moment as singer and drummer respectively. The recording was done by themselves, although they had the collaboration in the guitar solos of Fernando Mon and Pablo García, two prestigious guitar players in the region. In March 2002 Avalanch let Alberto and Victor know that the band "doesn't count with them", and this is what made them take the decision of making an own band. So we have Víctor García on vocals, Pablo García (Relative Silence) and Fernando Mon on guitars, Alvaro Jardón (Darna) on the bass, and Alberto Ardines on the drums.

In April 17, 2002 they released thier self-titled debut album WarCry. Pablo and Alvaro left their respective projects to be an entire part of the band, and finally, in August 2002, Manuel Ramil joined them to be the keyboard player. Víctor and Alberto kept working in the composition and arrangements of a new album, with the collaboration of the rest of the members as soon as they are joining the band. The second studio-album El Sello De Los Tiempos was released on December 1, 2002. Some days later they made their first live appearance, in a Presentation Party in Avilés, (Asturias) and days later as a guest artist in the "Metal Christmas Festival" (Madrid).

WarCry announced they were going to release an album in English, but after the good critics in Central Europe about El Sello De Los Tiempos sung in Spanish, made them realize that it could be a good option to get into the music market in that language, so they postponed the album for an undefined time and opted for Alea Jacta Est to be their third studio-album.

During the first months of 2003, the band was getting the machinery ready for the next tour, which officially began on March 7, and finished December 12 in their natal land, Asturias. During this year, WarCry played and rocked the whole Spanish territory, obtaining new fans in every single concert, and having a great acceptance by the audience. In the middle of the year, the band was ready to begin the conception of what was going to be their third album, "Alea Jacta Est", with the musical contributions and the participation at the composition level of the whole band, and with the idea of releasing it on 2004. At the end of the year, after the band's last tour concert, Alvaro Jardón decided to leave the band. His work on WarCry will always be a part of the band's story, having the friendship of all of his partners.

The album "Alea Jacta Est" was released in January 2, 2004 striking the stores, and the band was ready to present it through the whole Spanish country again in their new tour, and the same day the band made the official presentation of Roberto García as their new bass player. During 7 months they toured Spain, and prepared themselves for their forth album. At the end of the year they finished the recording of "¿Dónde Está La Luz?", which was released on February 1, 2005. The answer of the public was spectacular, a disc without double big drum, and a more social-thematic in their lyrics.

Taking advantage of the great moment that the band was going through and with a public wishing a live presentation they recorded at the end of the year, a great DVD from a live-concert in the room "Divino Aqualung de Madrid" before 2000 people, which was named "Directo A La Luz" and released on February 27, 2006. It was a great Ascended step in their search for The Top. The critic, the public and the sales have praised this work which tries to transmit every single thing who describes WarCry on the scene and the sensation to see oneself in front of the public, in front of everybody. This work was the number 1 on DVD's sales in Spain and stood in high positions for many weeks. During all that time, they started the recording of their fifth studio album.

On September 18 2006, "La Quinta Esencia" saw the light, signing hundreds of discs in Madrid (More than 1500 people), and the delivery of the golden DVD in a celebration with the press and fans. In "La Quinta Esencia" they turned backward trying to combine the elements who have taken WarCry to the top, from the musical and lyrical point of view. Entering directly to the position 19th, in the national chart-list of sales. Then started their tour on November 2006 in Spain, which extednded for a very long time, ending with a final concert on the third edition of the Jamón Rock festival on December 28, 2007 in Guijuelo, Salamanca, Spain.

Events

In an interview with Miguel Egun from Metal Zone, on November 25, 2007 Víctor commented on WarCry's next studio album: "Basically, the current problem is time. We are preparing the concert knowing that we have to put the machine to work in three months the same way it has done in five years of knowledge and experience. We already started to work on the next album. By the amount of tracks, Pablo and I have more than enough for this new album, but we must qualify them. We also want, 'for the first time in WarCry not to record the album ourselves but to work with other people who could give us a different point of view; but there still remains the matter of time. Well, perhaps will be the theme the most important thing. I am working on the lyrics and trying to seek new themes and approaches, it's too early to say it, but I think this album will express much duality in human beings, good and evil. The idea is to release it before the summer (May/June), Although the sooner, the better, but it no longer depends on us, as I commented earlier." See interview (In Spanish)

WarCry's two guitarists Pablo García and Jose Rubio signed an "endorsement" contract with the prestigious and well known guitar brand Ibanez, who pointed on their individual works, and thinking on the band's great impact in the Spanish heavy metal. Both musicians highlighted their professionalism as well as the quality and versatility of the Ibanez's guitars within the music scene.

Name Change

On December 28 2007 (Holy Innocents' Day, date for hoaxes and jokes in Spanish-talking countries), the band announced on their official website that, due to legal reasons, the were changing their name to CryWar. Also, it was announced that, for their upcoming album, the members were going to play different instruments from the ones they normally play; to give the new album a "fresher sound."
