Athletics

Sonora's sports teams are known as the Raiders. They are members of the Freeway League in CIF Southern Section.

Sonora has a major rivalry with crosstown foes La Habra High School, the centerpiece of which is the annual football game between the two. The Highlanders hold a 25 to 7 edge in the series, and Sonora has not won since 2001.

Sonora's football team has an all-time record of 198-236-3, and won the CIF-SS AA championship in 1975.

Sonora field hockey was powerful in the 1970s, winning two CIF-SS titles and finishing as runner-up twice. One of the members of this field hockey team was Valerie Olguin, maiden name Uken, whose daughter, Sara Olguin, would later help the Sonora Girl's Water Polo Team win CIF almost 30 years later.

In 2008 Sonora's Girls' Water Polo Team won CIF Championship. Their final game is most remembered for their win of one point made in the final three seconds against La Habra made by their co-team captain, Sara Olguin.

School demographics

The socio-economic composition of the student body represents great diversity:
