The 2009 Indianapolis Colts season will be the 57th season for the team in the National Football League and the 26th in Indianapolis. It is the first season since 2002 that the Colts will not have Tony Dungy on their coaching staff, due to his retirement from coaching. The Colts will attempt to improve upon their 12-4 record in 2008 and once again make the playoffs.
Offseason
Head coach announcement
On January 12, 2009, Head Coach Tony Dungy announced his retirement from coaching in the National Football League.[1] Two days later, then-Assistant Coach and Quarterbacks Coach Jim Caldwell was formally announced as Dungy's successor.[2]
Staff changes
- Clyde Christensen has replaced Jim Caldwell as Assistant Head Coach.[3]
- Larry Coyer has replaced Ron Meeks as Defensive Coordinator (Meeks resigned).[4][5]
- Tom Moore1 has decided to retire from coach in the National Football League due to a revision in the league's pension plan for non-players.[6]
- Howard Mudd1 has decided to retire from coach in the National Football League due to a revision in the league's pension plan for non-players.[6]
- Frank Reich has replaced Jim Caldwell as Quarterbacks coach.[7]
