John Goodsall is a progressive rock & jazz fusion guitarist most noted for his work with the jazz-rock band Brand X. He also started a more rock-oriented side project, Fire Merchants, with Doug Lunn and Chester Thompson, in 1989.

Goodsall was born in Pennsylvania and has lived in Los Angeles,England and Minnesota. He began playing guitar at age 7. At 15, he became a professional musician and joined Carol Grimes' Babylon, with members of Joe Cocker's Grease Band, Juicy Lucy and Jon Hiseman's Colosseum. He then toured extensively, first with The Alan Bown Set, then with Atomic Rooster.

After Brand X's 1979 world tour (the last with Phil Collins), Goodsall moved to Los Angeles and worked as a session musician and as a member of the band Zoo Drive(1980-1987) which included Doug Lunn, Paul Delph and Spinal Tap drummer Ric Parnell (aka Mick Shrimpton). He worked with artists including Bill Bruford, Peter Gabriel, Billy Idol, Bryan Adams, Toni Basil, Mark Isham, and released two albums with his band Fire Merchants, before reforming with Brand X and recording X-communication and Manifest Destiny. John Goodsall never received any royalties for his music and in 1998 he retired from the music business citing it as corrupt. He still plays guitar for fun sometimes. Several bootleg CD compilations have surfaced without Brand X's consent and continue to be sold illegally, many of these are listed below. On May 26,1992 his daughter Natasha Gala Marina Kaneda-Goodsall was born in Burbank,Ca with a gift for music thanks to her father.
