Kate Elizabeth Voegele (vōgəl) (born December 8, 1986) is a singer-songwriter, musician, and actress from the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, Ohio. She is currently signed to Interscope Records.[citation needed]
Voegele began gaining interest from record labels and management companies after recording a series of demos. Her first demo, "The Other Side" (released in 2003), was produced by award winning producer Michael Seifert. Her second demo, "Louder Than Words" (released in 2004), was produced by Marshall Altman. Kate signed a record deal with MySpace Records in 2006 and released her debut album, Don't Look Away (produced by Marshall Altman), in May 2007. The album has since sold over 225,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.[citation needed]
Voegele released her second studio-album, A Fine Mess, in May 2009. It was produced by Mike Elizondo. It sold 37,000 copies in its first week in the United States.[citation needed]
Since 2008, Voegele has played Mia Catalano on The CW Television Network show One Tree Hill. Catalano is an artist signed to Red Bedroom Records, the label created by Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton). Catalano's producer is fellow musician Haley James Scott (Bethany Joy Galeotti).[clarification needed][citation needed]
Performance history and awards
Voegele performed at Farm Aid in 2004 and 2005 with Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp. She released the EP "Louder Than Words" in February 2005.[citation needed]
Her song "Only Fooling Myself" was featured in the CBS dramas Clubhouse and Ghost Whisperer. "It's Only Life" was featured on MTV's Newport Harbor, the Lifetime Original movie Custody, and in The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants 2 trailers. "Facing Up" was featured on MTV's The Hills.[citation needed]
Voegele's song "I Won't Disagree" was a winner of the New York City Songwriters Circle in 2006.[1] Her song "Only Fooling Myself" also won praise at the 2006 USA Songwriting Competition at Borders Books & Music in Austin, TX.[2]
Voegele sang the national anthem at an NBA basketball game between the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY on December 23, 2005. She also supported The Relief Project charity event in New York City on December 22, 2005 as a guest singer with her father Will playing the guitar. Voegele announced on her official website that her second album, A Fine Mess, will be released on May 18, 2009. One of the songs from the album, "Manhattan From the Sky", was featured on One Tree Hill. She has confirmed that "Lift Me Up" will be released as well as a new song called "Sweet Silver Lining".
Voegele recorded[when?] "Good to You" with Josh Ramsay for Marianas Trench's album Masterpiece Theatre.[citation needed]

Education
Voegele attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio through spring of 2007 as a fine arts and psychology major, leaving to focus on a music career afterwards. Voegele was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority while at Miami.
Since spring 2008, Voegele has been pursuing a bachelor of science degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix (UPX) online, in exchange for the school sponsoring her tour, while balancing her professional music career on the road touring.[3]
