Greek Idol is the Greek version of the British television hit show Pop Idol. It is a talent contest to find a pop performer. It will be broadcast on Greek Alpha TV. The contest will be open to applicants from Cyprus as well. The show will premier sometime in March 2010.[1]

Greek Idol replaces Super Idol, one series of the Idol show that was hosted by Themis Georgantas on Mega Channel. The winner in the series held in 2004 was Stavros Konstantinou. Due to low ratings Mega Channel had decided to cancel the show after the inaugural 2004 season.

A number of Greek entertainers have been rumored as potential hosts of the show including Kalomoira, Nino, Natalia Germanou, Nikos Aliagas, Themis Georgantas, and Sakis Rouvas[1], who is the current host of X Factor Greece airing on ANT1. Some media outlets have reported that Nino did a Screen test for the show which was viewed positively by the network.[4]
