Thomas (Tom) R. Keene CFA (born 1952), is an editor-at-large for Bloomberg News and provides economic and investment perspective to print, radio, and television. He is the host of Bloomberg on the Economy and Bloomberg Surveillance on Bloomberg Radio. He created the chart-of-the-day article for Bloomberg News and appears weekly in Bloomberg Businessweek. Tom moderates panels and speaks before Bloomberg terminal users worldwide.

Background

Tom Keene worked in the investment industry for sixteen years before joining Bloomberg. Keene is a member of the National Association for Business Economics, The Economic Club of New York, and the CFA Institute. He created and edited "Flying on One Engine, The Bloomberg Book of Master Market Economists, Fourteen Views on the World Economy", published in 2005. Two chapters (David P. Goldman and Robert Hormats) were selected for the CFA Level II curricula. Tom initiated the re-issue of the Sidney Homer and Martin Leibowitz bible "Inside the Yield Book: The Classic That Created the Science of Bond Analysis, New Edition", published in 2004. He is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology and is enrolled in the external programme at The London School of Economics and Political Science.[1]

On-Air

Tom, with Bloomberg Radio's Al Mayers, conceived and developed Bloomberg Surveillance heard worldwide in the New York early morning on WBBR1130, across the United States and Canada on XM channel 129 [1] and Sirius channel 130 [2], and at Bloomberg.com. Tom, and co-host Ken Prewitt with Vonnie Quinn, John Tucker and Jerry Azar, interview leaders in economics, finance and investment. Tom and Ken bring their listeners selected op-ed comments from the world's newspapers and websites. They provide the latest in worldwide, business and sports news. A show staple are extended and frequent datachecks that link equities, bonds, currencies and commodities. They talk about kurtosis. Tom hosts Bloomberg On The Economy providing long-format discussions on current events, political economics and economic history. Memorable interviews include Milton Friedman and Robert Lucas, Jr. together from Chicago, Meghnad Desai following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, John W. Dower from Tokyo on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Reggie Jackson on Willie Mays. Boat and Surv, as they are known to Tom's production team, were both selected for the iTunes 2009 Rewind: Podcasts, Best of 2009 selection.
