It was a tehsil prior to Vehari. Vehari which is now district was sub-tehsil of Mailsi. Mailsi is famous for Jhandhir's Library and Siphon on Sutlej river and sindhnai link canal. Mailsi Siphon was constructed by Gamon construction company on 1964 is splendid piece of construction to contol water to manage between river and canal during flood.

History

Tehsil Mailsi was created in 1849. Mailsi town declared as town committee in 1924 Upgraded as sub division in 1935. Degraded as Tehsil in 1942. Upgraded as Municipal Committee in 1953 Declared as TMA August 14, 2001

Geography and climate

Mailsi is located in southern Punjab province at almost the exact centre of Pakistan. The closest major city is Vehari. The area around the city is a flat, alluvial plain and is ideal for agriculture. There are many canals that cut across the tehsil , providing water. This makes the land very fertile. River Sutlej remain often dry. Mailsi Siphon is to control water of sindhnai link canal and river sutlej.

Mailsi features an arid climate with very hot summers and mild winters. The city witnesses some of the most extreme weather in the country. The highest recorded temperature is approximately 54 °C (129 °F), and the lowest recorded temperature is approximately −1 °C (30.2 °F). The average rainfall is roughly 127 millimetres (5.0 in). Dust storms are a common occurrence within the city.

Mailsi( میلسی ) is known to be city of Cotton. The summer in Mailsi( میلسی ) is very hot, but the weather becomes much more pleasant between October and February. Light rainfall leaves the land generally arid and dusty, but the country's agricultural products include mangoes in the summer and guava and other citrus fruits in the winter. Mailsi is considered the capital of cotton growing in this part of Pakistan, with dozens of cotton processing factories and cottonseed oil manufacturing plants, and sugarcane farming and processing is also common.

The majority of Mailsi's residents speak Saraiki, while Punjabi & Haryanvi are the second most spoken languages. A good portion of the people are conversant in Urdu. English is understood by the educated. The majority of the people are Muslims.

Mailsi میلسی is located on the northern alternate route of both railway and road to Vehari and Lahore, the capital of the Punjab province of Pakistan. The western route is the main route to Multan and in sauthern side Bahawalpur & south-west is Kahrorpakka. Both of these routes run roughly in a northeasterly direction, almost parallel to each other and only 20 to 30 miles apart at any given point. A section of the railway between Multan and Lahore is electrified on the main line between Khanewal and Lahore. The Vehari route goes to Lahore through the famous religiously renowned city of Pakpattan, where the Sufi Saint Fariduddin Ganjshakar is buried. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to Pakpattan for the saint's Urs celebration which include all sorts of festivities. Baba Fareed's poetry has been included in the religious texts of the Sikh religion.
