Here and Now is the seventh studio album by Canadian rock band Nickelback. The album was released on November 21, 2011.[4] It is the follow-up to their multi-platinum selling Dark Horse in 2008. On September 26, the band officially released two singles, "When We Stand Together" and "Bottoms Up".[4] Both songs were made available for download on September 27, 2011. The first track of the record, "This Means War", was released on November 10, 2011 as the third single.[5] The artwork for the album is the Gastown Steam Clock in Vancouver and the clock is set at 11:21, the date the album was released.[6] The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 selling approximately 227,000 copies in its first week, just 0.18% below the number one spot, Michael Bublé's Christmas.[7]. Nickelback are currently touring in support of this album on their Here and Now Tour.

The album has received mixed reviews from professional critics ranging from positive to highly negative.According to Metacritic, the album has received an average review score of 51/100, based on 9 reviews.[15] Consequence of Sound awarded the album two stars, out of a possible 5, stating that "Here and Now might prove to be a step above the last effort, but likewise a step high enough to hang its creators on a barn rafter."[14] On the other end of the scale, Canadian music and entertainment website Rockstar Weekly awarded the album a perfect 5 stars, calling it "far and away, the best Canadian album of 2011."[18]

Commercial performance

The album has topped both the HMV Canada CD sales chart and the US iTunes Album chart in its first week of sales. It was also Number nine on the UK BBC Radio 1 midweek album chart update on the week of its release and number 20 on the HMV UK CD charts on 27th November 2011. In the UK Rock Chart, seven songs from Here and Now reached top 40 positions, including "When We Stand Together" at number one, "Lullaby" at number three, "Bottoms Up" at number four, "Trying Not to Love You" at number five, "Don't Ever Let It End" at number 24, "This Means War" at number 29 and "Holding on to Heaven" at number 40.[19] The album was number 10 in the UK charts for the week of its release.[20] On December 16, 2011, the album was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for shipments of 100,000 copies in the UK.[21] The song "This Means War will be used for WWE's Elimination Chamber.
